We came to this restaurant with kids and they gave us a huge table, the staff was accommodating and they made us feel very comfortable. The food was simply great, specially their lamb!!! Great place and an amazing atmosphere.

Merci beaucoup! It’s sometimes the staff who make an effort to spend a few minutes that resonate with you! Makes for an overall positive engaging and genuine experience. The art of simple conversation wasn’t lost on the staff member who is French native. He wasn’t serving me as I was seated at the bar but nonetheless made the effort to chat. I thanked him when I left.
As a business traveler it is so refreshing to be sat at the bar and all service staff were incredibly responsive and helpful. Also made to feel very comfortable. Hostess when I arrived was kind and attentive. They were all on point with service. I had my main lamb ragu dish, served with a side of fresh sourdough bread that came with sea salt and olive oil. Not overly massive sizing but more than adequate. Delicious Chianti vino from Italy.

This is my favourite breakfast spot. Whether I get a meal or a pastry and tea or hot chocolate I am always satisfied and get to try new things all the time. Love the pastry cabinet in particular. Good service and nice venue.

Always admired the decor and atmosphere in Amano and the Sunday crowd was buzzy. The wait staff were prompt with water and menus but when we asked for a little more time to select, they disappeared for 20 minutes and had to be persuaded to return to take our orders. I ordered the pasta with scampi (NZ$45) which had a good flavour, but that is all I can say about it positively. The portion was a little larger than entree size but in no way generous and the pieces of scampi were hard to find and dry. Our family member who had the steak had a good experience BUT come on, pasta is cheap and the other 3 pasta dishes were similarly mean. Labour etc aside, the pasta ingredients per dish cannot have cost more than $5 max in a normal supermarket shop. You'd have to talk to me very threateningly to return. PS You're not in New York.

Had a terrible experience at this restaurant with a severe stomach infection. We visited this restaurant during our trip to Auckland (visiting from Vancouver, Canada), and had a severe stomach infection, we tried to reach the restaurant couple times with our concerns and health issue, however our request was ignored without a response. Restaurant ambience is excellent but we had a very negative experience with customer service and food quality (especially for the expensive prices).

Menu was a little odd with no distinction between starters / entrees and mains. Price was a slight indicator for us , so we asked to check. A couple of people around us we heard questioning the size of their order and being told they were entrees (might be easier to use a clearer menu).
Other than that the staff were great, but incredibly busy to get another drink etc. The atmosphere was really buzzing and the food was fantastic.
Would definitely recommend a visit.

Excellent food, efficient and friendly service and a great vibe. We celebrated a family birthday here. We pre-booked and got a very nice table. The menu has a number of interesting choices, grouped into dairy, pasta, meat, seafood, vegetables etc. Something everyone. Our waitress was knowledgeable and worked out what we needed and then catered to it. For example, as we were a large group she offered to remove the grilled corn from the cobs, as part of a side dish, so we could all share it. All of the food is selectively sourced from the best parts of NZ..

Such exquisite food and ambience. I had a spare hour before catching ferry so thought I would visit one of my favourites. Absolutely stunning truffle tagliatelle and cannolo - treated very well by staff - highly recommended!

On holiday in Auckland and fancied Italian - Amano did not disappoint. Between us we had the lamb rump, clam spaghetti with sides of potatoes in butter and mint and the goats cheese and chilli eggplant. All of our food and sides were cooked to perfection. The house made spaghetti was perfectly cooked and the clams were plentiful and perfectly cooked. I had a 'Raspberry' cocktail and hubby had a couple of Sawmill Hazy IPA's. Simply outstanding. We can't wait to go back.

Booked online before going to Auckland. Received txt's reminding us of time etc. Food was excellent, staff great from arriving at the restaurant, dining, leaving, all staff easy to talk to. While restaurant was very busy did not feel crowded or rushed. Definitely go again next time we are in Auckland

The dimensions and decoration of Amano are impressive. Bar, high tables, traditional tables and tables with benches alternate in a happy harmony enhanced by the high ceilings, the raw walls and the subdued lighting.
We are lucky to have a corner table which gives us a pleasant view of the room.
A beautiful menu with starters, fish dishes, meats and pastas, side dishes and desserts.
We choose glasses of Pinot noir as an aperitif then accompany two lamb rumps which we ask for grilled on the outside but very pink on the inside and fried potatoes.
Perfect cooking of meat and very good potatoes.
And for dessert, excellent semifreddi.
Given the size of the restaurant, one might fear an impersonal welcome and service. It is not so. The welcome and service are smiling, professional and efficient.

Came for a business lunch last week - as always food was exceptional - staff were attentive yet non intrusive and operated in such a slick manner that everything flowed perfectly - this is how dining in NZ should be.
Great music and atmosphere as always too.

We frequently eat at this restaurant for breakfast, and I would give it five stars for our previous visits. Usually this place is amazing.
However, the waitress made a mistake by putting through a wrong order, my partner had finished his meal and mine had not arrived, so I cancelled the other and only one of us ate.
Mistakes happen, and that's fine; what was disappointing and unusual for Amano was that she simply didn't care; the apology felt hollow, and the fact that one of us didn't eat should have bothered you because you are not a low-cost restaurant.
We reluctantly paid for the person who did eat and left extremely disappointed.

I had heard alot of good things about Amano but unfortunately was dissapointed. We ordered two cold entrees and one main and vege for sharing, but alll the food arrived at the same time, when I asked the waiter why they didnt stagger the food they said I should have asked them too. I have eaten all over the world and never have I had to tell the staff to deliver the entrees then the mains. Both entrees carparcio and crudo were good but not great, the main scampi and spaggetti was I felt over priced for 42.00 with around six small pieces of scampi probably wont be back.

Modern open kitchen decor with marginally comfortable furniture. Service was prompt, friendly and professional. Food was NOT traditional Italian like any Italian food I have eaten anywhere in Italy. Seasoning was closer to Turkish or Mediterranean. Spaghetti was actually spaghettoni - very thick heavy version - tasty and fresh, but not what I expected from menu description. Clam sauce had a nice bite to it, but not what I expected. In fairness to them, they describe their restaurant quite accurately on their own website - I made the mistake of reading Trip Advisor’s characterization of this as an Italian restaurant. If you like Mediterranean food and spices, you like the food here. Atmosphere borders on cafeteria style, contemporary attractive but neither cozy or very romantic. Maybe not having a reservation and getting seated at a window with the view of a commercial loading dock didn’t help, but at the time I was just put off by the hard chair and lack of ambiance. People around us seems to be enjoying their food - this is one of those times I wish I could give 4-1/2 stars. I try and save 5 stars for when I’m wowed.
