About
The Purangi Winery was established in 1985 the 37th Winery in New Zealand. The Evans Family who moved from Hong Kong were welcomed as settlers by the district in 1966. Our products are made in the traditional manner with purest ingredients hence the company name Purangi Estate Ltd or "PurEst". In 2009 we built a wood fired pizza oven and launched the Purangi Winery Pizzeria which has been more and more popular. We produce many of the ingredients for the pizzas, making the pesto and pizza sauce and using a wide range of fresh herbs and vegetables from our garden. Our bar in the Coromandel invites you to enjoy all our homemade products: Cider, Wines, Long Drinks and (in winter) Mulled Wine as well as a wide range of national and international beers. Relax in our family friendly environment. WE ARE IN THE PROGRESS OF RELOCATING AND ARE NOT OPEN UNTILE FURTHER NOTICE!

Surprisingly just off the road we seated outside amongst s superb vege garden boarder. Staff fab, music upbeat and mellow, lots of seating options under kiwi fruit vine umbrellas. In the sun on lawn covered entertainment area and indoors making it a venue. Food and coffee was great and local beers at prices lower than surrounding business. Super nice gift type shop next door. The place leans to small gig type events. Definitely stopping again every time we pass.

We first stumbled onto the Purangi Winery on our last trip to New Zealand in 2015. Our visit there was one of the more memorable parts of that trip. We were entertained by the proprietor and encouraged to taste a wide range of wines and spirits, all for free. We had a lovely lunch of wood fired pizza under some feijoa trees. We purchased a few bottles of spirits to take back home with us and I savored and nursed the lemon gin for several years before it finally ran out. When planning our return trip to New Zealand, Purangi winery was one of the top things on our list to revisit. We booked a bach nearby several months in advance. Then, as the trip approached, I began reading online than the winery had moved or was possibly closed. It was too late to cancel our AirBNB so we went to the Coromandel hoping that the rumors of Purangi Winery's closure were untrue. I'm happy to report that, although it has moved, it is still open. Apparently, what was described as a hostile takeover forced them out of their old premises after decades of leasing it. The old place was apparently taken over by someone with deep pockets because it has been completely refurbished and converted from the humble, rather funky, and charming place it used to be into an upscale restaurant. Purangi Winery have moved a short distance down the road onto property that they own. They are in the process of setting up there and were open at the new place but not yet set up to serve food. They've began to grow tea on the property and sell several different varieties. It's worth a drive up the just to see the view from their parking lot. If they are able to get re-established up here, it could be even better than the old place. If you're looking for an authentic Kiwi experience, want to support a multi-generational family business, and enjoy sampling some unique wines and spirits that you won't find anywhere else, stop in at the Purangi Winery. You won't be disappointed. I want this place to still be around on my next visit to New Zealand!

Couldn’t have ever asked for a more enjoyable visit! Danny was generous with both tastings and his time. He could be a stand up comic and gave us the most interesting history lesson (where was he when I was trying to stay awake in history class). Definitely worth the trip up the gravel drive!!! Pay him a visit and grab some great tasting liquors!

Purangi is located in a great spot with views down to the water. Located on an organic farm, they only use what they grow in their liqueurs. Danny is a great host with funny stories who will keep you entertained.

Purangi Winery is still alive and well at its new location, Hot Water Brewing Co. They offer tastings of their many unique and delicious liqueurs, and you can grab a great beer and some of Purangi's renowned pizza while you're at it. We stayed three hours enjoying conversation with Denny, who runs the winery. Highly recommended if you're on the Coromandel Peninsula.

Feijoa liqueur! Where will I ever find this amazing stuff again 😢 travelling from the UK we came across Purangi Winery Pizzeria! Truly one of mine and my girl friends favourite drink, we was gutted to drink the last drop! If you could ship a crate of this to us would be much appreciated 😂! Go see these people near hot water beach! All the beer was amazing, pizza was another level! And of course the free tray of shots after was top notch! We really hope Purangi Winery makes it big! The guy in charge (forgot his name sorry) top guy explained everything about the feijoa fruits and how they make it taste so good in a bottle! 👏👏👏👏

We enjoyed a tasty pizza from the pop up location at the Hot Water Brewery. The service was impeccable and the tasting platter was a perfect addition (also with some local history!). Sounds like the original location with views is incredible, we hope that they can continue this family business as it's an asset to the region.

While we didn’t have the pizza we sure had the hospitality and all sorts of liqueur. Definitely look for their pop up at Hot Water Brewing, well worth a visit to both.

The pizzas are great. The choice is wide with the opportunity to make your own from a creative selection of ingredients They are very tasty and great value. Danny is a great host in the pop up on the Hot Water Brewing Company site. So you you get great beer and great pizzas. Don't go to the winery - go to the brewery and get wine too!

Purangi Winery was one of the highlights of our trip to the Coromandel. Yes its a bit hard to find and rundown but its still turning out delicious fruit liquers that are well worth tracking down. Plus an amazing view. We first visited Purangi winery about 20 years ago when it was run by Danny's father and in a different location (further down the road) and were impressed. So we went back to look for it a few weeks ago. Now run by Danny the place has fallen on hard times and is trapped in a bureaucratic nightmare with the local council which doesn't sound good. He needs support, he's a delightful character and has a great product so give him a go. We bought six bottles all and we,re enjoying every drop.different fruit

We were told about this place by some friends who live in Auckland. It was a great place to find some delicious pizza and wine while enjoying a gorgeous view. Make sure your arrive early enough or make reservations or you may be disappointed. The pizzas run out.
