We stopped over for a night and opted for the degustation meal. It was hard to fault as was the accomadation and friendly service. The meal was six varied courses including venison, scallops and duck - accompanied by a great selection of wine. Thoroughly enjoyed...our evening and would highly recommend. Breakfast was continential but it too was fantastic and the room was spotless and comfortable. The inclusion of a laudry and drier when travelling was an added bonus. Hard to fault and would highly recommend to anyone in the Ophir area.More
Thank you we re thrilled your stay was enjoyable.
I highly recommend Pitches for anyone cycling the rail trail. The best place to stay on the trail. The rooms are warm and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were delicious. Thank you Colleen and team for looking after us so well.
Thanks Philipa enjoyed having you here!
Very well restored historic building with luxuriously appointed rooms. We went in the spa tub to soothe our aching legs after riding the Otago rail trail from Clyde. The restaurant food was excellent. I had the venison and it was delicious. There was a very...generous continental breakfast with as many flat whites as you wanted. Great place to stop overnight on the rail trail. There’s plenty of history to explore around the village as well.More
A stylish option just off the rail trail for cyclists. This was our second visit, and the standard remained every bit as good as it was four years ago. The rooms are not huge, but the bar, restaurant and garden provide ample relaxation space. The...owners are delightful, hands-on types and that carries through into their staff. The food was, and remains, simply excellent. Highly recommended.More
Super spot for coffee cake or more. Highly recommend to take the little detour off the main drag and treat yourself. You won’t regret
I ordered lamb. The plate consisted of three very small pieces of lamb which was fifty percent thick fat. The accompanying croquettes were small and inedible as they were so dry. The mushrooms were tough and inedible. I advised the female owner of my disappointment...and showed her the large pieces of thick fat on my plate. There was no apology or any acknowledgement at all of my complaint. My friends and myself left without ordering dessert as planned.More
Hi Claire I was aware of your complaint and was surprised to see the food left on your plate. I spoke to the head chef who has looked at the other lamb in the same batch and has spoken with the supplier who has checked...More
The food was divine, stunning presentation... but so little of it. I like to think when we're paying a reasonable amount for a meal that i will end up not feeling hungry and having to order a bowl of chips to fill up.
The bar and menu choices were not over-complicated and the presentation and service were of the highest standard. The staff made us feel very much as if we were the only people in the world that mattered to them.
We were lucky to stay at Pitches Store accommodation in Ophir for two nights and enjoyed two delicious meals and breakfasts in their restaurant. Excellent quality ingredients and a skilled chef resulted in the best meals we had on our two week trip. I really...appreciated how thoughtfully put together our breakfasts were too, especially since I eat a gluten free diet.I envy the locals who are able to enjoy Pitches often.More
We were a group of 12 biking the rail trail and were lucky enough to be booked into Pitches for the night by Bike It Now. We had a warm welcome from Colleen and the team. The rooms were absolutely gorgeous. We regret not staying...for dinner as to food looked amazing and other diners raved about it. Alas we were welcomed back after our very average pub meal with some lovely glasses of Pinot. Breakfast was very good and the staff did an amazing job putting it all together with power out across the region. Thank you for a fantastic stay Colleen and team!More
Our group of 10 cycling the Rail Trail thoroughly enjoyed our meal. No problem catering for vegetarians.
Thanks we enjoyed having you here and hoped the rest of the trip went well
Delicious food in a lovely setting, the only thing stopping this being 5 stars was that it took a very long time for our food to arrive (lunch - 40 minutes) which is ok for dinner, but a bit slow during the day. That said,...if you weren't in a hurry, a really pleasant venue and all the diners seemed to be really enjoying their meals. (And thumbs up for the variety on the menu!)More
Thanks for your kind words, sorry it took so long we were busier than usual and 1 staff member off sick Try to be better
First rate food, and pleasant accommodation. The fire is blazing and the Otago pinot noir (Valli recommended) sumptuous.
We dined here while on the Otago rail trail it was a great way to enjoy each others company with great wines and fabulous food - a must do!
