Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Omg! This place needs a visit from the health department, filthy dive. Only stopped because Relish was closed. Brought take away coffee, at least that’s what we ordered, tasted nothing like coffee. At a guess I would say instant with microwaved milk! What a terrible let down in this day and age. I hope any tourists that stop here don’t judge our cafes on this dump.

The lady here is very helpful and friendly. When you first walk in it doesn't look like much but her knowledge and friendliness soon makes you forget and she was the only other person nice to us. She cooked us a seafood basket and it was nice. She prefers people to ask if they want sandwiches and is willing to make them fresh we liked that as well.

This is the worst of NZ and an embarrassment in 2017. Not a cafe- no cabinet food, not a restaurant, not an antique shop. Just a mess bad coffee, unclean and uncaring. We only had coffee - quantity does not make up for lack of quality. Literally only a couple of packets of crisps and a bought chocolate roll Two days before Xmas on SH1 is one of the busiest days of the year for travellers and we only stopped here as other cafes were full. Now we know why! We should have just walked out and will never go back

We stopped for a bite to eat and the burgers did not disappoint. The Biker Burger was great: real homemade patty, cubes of steak, egg, pineapple, cheese, and 2 hash browns for $10. Friendly prompt service. It’s not going to win any prizes for decor but you’ll be too busy looking at your burger to care.

Hunterville is stuck in the past, and so is this place.
If you want an authentic 'taste' of what it was like to eat out back in the sixties, then you are in luck, this is the place for you.
However, if you want a clean place, with good food and proper coffee don't call in because you are heading for a massive disappointment.

I was too tired and in need of a good coffee. The place looks alright from outside. They have an espresso machine that looks pretty used. Ordered the Flat White and no one else was around. The barista doesnt look like ge knows what he was doing. I couldnt even smell any beans being grinded. Paid for $5/- i think and left. Quick sip on the coffee and I have to throw them away. The yuckiest coffee I ever had. So angry with the poor coffee, it kept me awake for the rest of my journey. That was the only good part😝

This place is run by a really nice woman, she was friendly and had lots to say about the town. However the cafe hasn't been cleaned since about 1974. The food is cheap and greasy. We would have walked straight out if I was more observant and noticed the filth. There are some cool old bits of motorbike, which are a good distraction from the food.

Decided to stop for a coffee, almost walked out but saw an espresso machine. So, decided to give it a go. The lack of any counter food, really should of been a big clue as to what was to come. There were alot of noises from behind the counter, but tellingly none of them came fom the espresso machine. I paid the wellingon eqiuvilant price for my takeaway coffee, deciding to drink outside on this 5 degree day as it was warmer than inside the cafe. The first (and last) sip explained the lack of noise from the espresso machine. This was a weak instant coffee with some frothed milk. It bewilders me how anyone could think that this is acceptable in NZ's cafe culture. I will never step foot in this place again or recommend it. If I could rate it a zero, I would.

Entered Cranks as my husband was interested in old things and we were able to park outside. When I saw no food in cabinet should have walked out was crubby with plastic table clothes and dirty stained chairs. No other people dining should have gone across the road where it was packed and waited. Ordered toasted sandwiches worst I have ever had and coffee wasn't even hot. Friendly lady but would not recommend food. Never again.

A real nice place to take a break during the drive from Taupo to Wellington, as it is right in the middle. There's also a gas station around the corner.
This is a cool cafe with a bikers theme. They have a whole bunch of classic bikes and strange vehicles parked inside, including some rare New-Zealand-built ones. Everyone who worked there was very friendly. One of the guys told me a bunch of interesting stories about what they had parked in there. We had a hamburger with fries in the sunshine outside.
Be sure to try their "Biker Burger", it's big, tastes great and is well priced.
