A great place to stop for a break. I had the Chicken burger with added bacon which was nice and crunchy and still moist inside and my husband had a perfectly cooked steak burger. You can order from the menu or there is a pie warmer and sweet treats :)

Myself and my partner had a really nice meal for lunch at the Hunter's Cafe. The couple who served us were very friendly and hospitable and I was impressed that they catered for gluten and dairy free diets too. Definitely a great place to stop for breakfast lunch or dinner on your trip North or South!

We were craving avocado on toast and pancakes. We stopped at this cafe and didn’t have high expectations but it was amazing! The avo was whipped with feta and it was delicious and so big we couldn’t finish it! The pancakes were nice and fluffy with plenty of bacon and banana. Mocca was yum

Stayed one night in one of the motels. The rooms have a double and single bed. They are old with dated decoration but are clean and tidy. Fresh towels rolled up on the end of the bed each with a bar of soap.
Room has an electric jug, microwave and small fridge.
There is a heater and fan in the room plus electric blankets on the bed.
I was most impressed with the personal service. Although the cafe closes at 4, we we were told if we contacted the onsite manager before 9pm, he would open the cafe and cook us anything from the menu.
We contacted him and ordered by txt. He advised it would be about 30-35mins. He brought the meals to the room along with a portable eftpos.
Very impressed !!
We ordered a Fish Burger and a Southern Fried Chicken Burger - both were excellent.
Plan to stay again next time we go down there.

Don’t let appearances fool you - this place is good. Great service, flexible on menu items and very good food. I was doubtful when I ordered, but delighted with my lunch - Smashed Avocado with poached eggs, grilled tomato and a side of mushrooms. It was great - with added salad also. Coffee is good too. I would come back here.

The BIG breakfast is the best thing you would want to wake up for!!
Cooked to perfection, the food was a smorgasbord of flavour/seasonings, the staff cheerful and friendly and the pot belly fire made it very difficult to step back out into the cold frosty day.
Ps: dinner there night before .. fish and chips..... left me wishing I had room for another serving!!
Looking forward to stopping there again soon.

We stopped in Hunterville for lunch while driving around New Zealand. For an unknown reason, only takeaway was available, so after waiting in the dining room, we took our food to the patio and ate there. It was good food, and the restaurant is a good place for family or business lunches.

Stopped on my way through back to Wellington. I've been here before but it appears to have changed hands since the last time I visited. I'm delighted to say it's better than before. The staff were friendly and the range of food was good too. I had an omelette with hash brown and a coffee. The food was really tasty and the coffee was good too. There was a good turn over of people while I was there, some locals too which is a good sign.
They are upgrading the toilets, but are still usable. Have been before as I say and will go again.

Surprising little gem. We were told that the steaks we fantastic, but since it was the owner telling us, we were skeptical. Both were cooked to perfection and presented well. Highly recommend this popular cafe in a quaint town.

We grow up in Hunterville, and miss the old hunters times. Maori guy that served us behind the counter is doing a wonderful job for being new, keep it up bro you got this.
Doesn’t seem like a very organised restaurant.
Drinks arriving at different times with a bit of a wait. Milkshakes taste weird.

Lovely cafe and oh my goodness....the size of the meals, wow.
Friendly staff, quick service. Will definitely recommend the Hunters Burger. The burger alone is worth the stop in Hunterville. Let the picture tell the story of the burger.

Even though you’re not spoiled for choice when visiting Hunterville, this place would be our first choice if you were.
Friendly owners, amazing food (try the pakora!) and very accommodating when travelling with kiddies.
Great dining area with plenty of room.
The perfect spot for a pitstop between Wellington & Taupo 👌
