Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Handily placed halfway between Taupõ and Wellington, this modest cafe is well worth a stop. Someone here really knows how to cook, from delicious pies made from quality ingredients to moreish, inventive salads. The selection is small but there's something here to suit most appetites and they also offer little lunch packs for kids. There's a small outdoor area, nothing flash but sunny. The coffee is some of the best we tasted on our trip around the North Island, and the light and tangy apricot muffins were a highlight.

We normally stop in Taihape for lunch when driving from Wellington to Auckland or Hamilton but just for a change we thought we'd check out Hunterville and discovered this excellent little cafe. Bright and clean eating area, friendly staff, sensible counter food and excellent coffee. We'll definitely be back.

Great stop in Hunterville. Called in for a takeaway coffee but everything looked so good we stayed for an early lunch. Pulled pork burger was delicious and the pie with vintage cheese was fab - the pastry was top notch! Couldn’t resist the carrot cake and ginger and Turkish delight slice either. So good! Service was fun and staff friendly. Highly recommend a stop here!!

Unplanned stop on a road trip. I was cold and pretty tired, so my view might be coloured by that. Nice enough coffee and partner enjoyed his eggs benne. I had my customary bacon-and-banana on pancakes. Bacon was great, "pancakes" were really crepes (thin and folded into triangles) that unfortunately didn't have enough structure to be used as crepes (fold around filling), perhaps they needed to be fried at a higher temperature. Felt like there wasn't a whole banana (it was cut into slices and seemed small) but it's mid winter, maybe it was a bobby banana. Tons of whipped cream. Cafe itself is a quirky space, anyone sitting at the table to the right of the service area has to move to let people in and out of the table in the corner. But the staff were friendly and the service was quick. :-)

A great stop for great food. Freshly made food, eggs to breads/pastries, to sandwiches. May not be fancy, but this chef knows how to prepare high quality food. Friendly waitstaff.

You should check this place out if you're looking for a coffee and something really nice to eat. All the food is produced in the kitchen. Pies to die for not forgetting the other food in the cabinet. Plus, great service.

So friendly, very happy to accommodate an allergy, going out of their way to make a delicious lunch for us. I was really impressed with the quality of the food. I bought one of their marmalades, it is delicious! The service was great!

Food was nice, if you don't mind it served on a piece of cardboard. Coffee was ok if you don't mind a flimsy paper cup. Service was pretty offhand. We won't stop there again.

The small café on the left-hand side of HWY 1 heading North is well worth a stop both to break your trip and after your good coffee/tea, cakes and sandwiches a visit to the accessories shop next door is also interesting (particularly if your are interested in motor bicycle apparel). The facilities, in a room behind the counter, are very clean and tidy.
