Ki Maha is special restaurant if you even get to Onetangi New Zealand. Whoever the chef is he would earn Michelin stars in Europe . From appetiser to entree and main course everything was divine. My wife had the fish of the day caught in...the morning my main of Scampi Risotto was amongst the best I have had in the world. If he had added come scallops, mussles and fish I would have paid much more.More

We chose this place because it looked amazing on menu and aestically. We were excited about splashing out for a fine dining evening ahead. However upon being seated we were quickly informed that there was no oysters or crayfish (it was only 6.45pm). Then when...we were ready to order, we were told that the only grill steak available was 1.2kg. Who can eat that much, let alone pay for it! Seems to be a trend of theirs given the reviews I have now read. Our starters were nice, buuuuut the sirloin was accompanied with what looked like frozen supermarket chips chucked in the deep fryer - no fanciness (had between fries at Mon o war garden bar). My lamb rump was over powered but what tasted like the sour cream it was laying on and was chewy. No sides accompanied it. The dessert - we couldn’t fault! So my thoughts are, if you’re going to promote yourselves and charge as a fine dining restaurant, that’s what you should be providing. Given the common theme in the reviews, buy enough stock to provide for your customers. And maybe fancy up those fries - they really let down the the meal.More

With multiple recommendations, my wife and two friends had a 7.30pm table last Sunday evening in Ki Maha, booked two weeks in advance. But we cannot recommend Ki Maha On a holiday weekend, one might expect a couple of menu items to have run out,...but we were amazed that there was little choice remaining. Our waitress provided a long list – no oysters, no market fish or crayfish, no lamb, only one of the four steaks (unless we wanted a 1.2kg Wagyu) and more. We compromised and I ordered scallops as a starter, and my wife ordered the same dish as her main. Three cold starters arrived, but my scallops took ages to be served, and only after chasing. Our hot mains followed, but without the scallops for my wife. Incredibly, we again had to call the waitress to chase and after another 15 minutes, she returned with the news that there were no scallops left! Frustrated, my wife refused to wait for an alternative and took a share of our now tepid steak and chips. Although courteous, the attention to service was poor, with staff often talking more to each other than to their customers. With the restaurant now almost empty, we did not order coffee or dessert and requested the bill. Our waitress apologetically pointed out that we would not need to pay for the second scallop dish, but our bill was wrong as we were charged for a side course of broccolini that also never arrived. Ki Maha management should note that there were clearly other disappointed, complaining customers that evening. With too much responsibility delegated to well-meaning but less experienced staff, it is likely more reviews like this will follow.More

Very strange experience. First many things on the menu were not available including all but 1 item in the grill section. Then while we were told they had no oysters other diners seated after us were served oysters. When we asked about it our server...looked like a deer in the headlights and had no explanation. And we were told repeatedly that the fish of the day was salmon but when we went to order they did not have salmon. We dined at 6:30. Two people in my party seated at opposite ends of the table ordered the lobster roll. A single plate was delivered to one person with both orders on it. The food that they did have was very good but for the massive pricetag I expected more including a more accurate menu and access to the same choices as other diners.More

Disappointing experience. Six items off the menu, no specials to substitute and even the spaghetti substituted for linguini. One entree never arrived. Nearly two hours later the mains came. Fish of the day lacklustre, pasta required salt and pepper - which we had to ask...for - chips soft, water never refilled and we were never asked if we’d like more wine. Because of the long wait for our mains we didn’t feel like desserts. The waiter also tried to remove plates while some were still eating. If we hadn’t paid the required $50 per person deposit in advance we would have walked out.More

My family and I recently dined at Ki Maha ( 24th Nov) to celebrate my wife's 75th Birthday. It was our first time on Waiheke and this was to be a special occasion. Unfortunately it was a disaster. I have never previously submitted a Review...on Trip Advisor but our experience that night was so bad I felt I had to share it with other potential customers. The drinks order was a debacle from the start. One of our party ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc and was delivered a glass of chardonnay . When this was pointed out to the waitress it was replaced with the correct wine but with little in the way of an apology. I ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir but the waiter came back and told us it was out of stock so opted for alternative Pinot Noir. ( one of the other family members was also told their wine choice was not available) 3 of our party were to share the bottle of red which was eventually brought to the table and poured by the waiter. We quickly discovered that we had been served a shiraz and asked that it be taken away and replaced by the Pinot Noir that had been ordered. This was undertaken in bad grace - no acknowledgement or apology for the mistake. Fresh glasses were not offered. Then came the biggest disappointment - the meal itself. First up, the entrees were very small, tasty enough, but overpriced for what you actually got. Interestingly the brocollini side dish that we ordered to go with the mains was delivered at the same time as the entrees. - We had been looking forward to experiencing one of Ki Maha's signature dishes, the NZ Crayfish. At $150 this was going to be a special, albeit expensive treat. Sorry, we were advised, no lobster available. The (2nd choice) preferred steak option was also not available so 3 of the family opted for the fish of the day. I regret now that I didn't take a photo of what we were served. It was disgusting. The fish was grossly overcooked, dried out and oversalted. None of the family could finish their meal. The family member who ordered the duck was likewise unable to finish her meal. The meal was tainted by the black mess on her plate- smokey eggplant . Smokey is right! The waffle fries side dish that had been ordered to accompany the main dishes never arrived. At this point none of our party wanted to stay around for dessert. The Head Waiter was advised of our dissatisfaction and he indicated that the bill would be adjusted accordingly. When I went to pay the bill he said that they would take the price of one of the fish meals off the total. Big deal. Looking back now, I am still fuming about the level of service and standard of meals we received that night. We should have just walked out but didn't want to spoil my wife's big celebration night out any more by making a scene. It appears that there was quite a level of disharmony amongst the serving staff that night - and I'm sure that must have carried through to the kitchen. In their website the owners of Ki Maha tell the reader 'Maha' translates as, "to be gratified, satisfied , contented- by the attainment of an desired object" Didn't happen for us - won't be going back.More

Wow just wow. The place is breathtaking at dusk enjoying glasses of their signature wines while chatting the night away. Their food is outstanding by far the best cuts of meat we have had on waiheke. Will definitely be back soon.
