Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Best vegan Mexican food I’ve found on this trip! The owner and the chef were super attentive and welcoming and accommodating and the live music was a sweet bonus. The food was flavorful and beautiful and the salsas are amazing. I came back twice!

The Price was right and the food was great. The people here are easy to talk to! Paul, our server, can always do something extra or bring you something anytime. The only thing that could improve was seasoning the food, a little more like with salt/pepper, or just leaving salt and pepper on the table. The ambience was great and we had a great time listening to the live music played. It was really fun. Paul, was great and we hope to see him again.

We started out going to the neighboring restaurant but it was closed. We had stopped and looked at the Maiz Maix menu a day prior and we decided to go there. It was during an unusually rainy week and we initially sat outside under the patio, but a sudden downpour came. Tony, the chef, who was working alone, quickly moved us and the one other table inside. He then continued to cook and serve both tables. His coworker, Paul, returned in the rain soaking wet after he had gotten wet once and went home to change and was caught in a second rain storm.
My daughter ordered garlic and honey chicken wings which they provided even though only on the brunch menu. My husband ordered green enchiladas. I ordered the tacos Estilo Ensenada. While all of it was good, my Ensenada style tacos were outstanding! Light breading with a yummy sauce, and Pico. And did I mention they were enormous! We had 2 margaritas, tried a few mezcals and an artisenal tequila. Chef Tony and Paul were extremely attentive and personable and we enjoyed getting to know them, their story and exchanging a spanish-english lesson. The restaurant is as Tony says, "a baby" only 3 months open. There are many wonderful options in Puerto but Maiz Maix is definitely one to try. They also serve breakfast and lunch/brunch and their prices are very reasonable.

I was casually walking by and a waiter made eye contact and signaled me over. You would think more would do that when times are slow but they dont! So I went over and he showed me the menu and I sat down to order! Seafood tacos and tostadas are the thing to get here, even though there are non fish options, I got a shrimp taco and a fish taco. These were not small tacos either, BOTH quite heavy and 2 total is plenty for dinner! I preferred the fish over the shrimp but both prepared much the same and you might not be sure which is which until you ask or bite into one.
The chef likes to come out to each table too. Thats also a nice touch and shows they care and take price in their work.
Anytime your in an area with seafood remember there are days they catch one thing and sometimes what comes in from the sea may not be what you want but please understand with ALL restaurants it is best to just ask whats good and fresh and listen, to what they say. Here the chef trys to get the local Boquinete fish and he had it tonight. There are days though when fishermen dont catch your first choice of fish so just ask your waiters and go with what they say.
The price was 2 seafood tacos for 200 peso. That sounds like a lot but they were large, heavy and made with quality fish. I will go back for more! Also they serve 2 for 1 margaritas until a certain hour. Check with your waiter on that!

The most incredible food. We had the fish tacos (as recommended by another customer who was eating near us) and the chicken tacos.
The fish tacos were the star, perfectly crunchy, with an amazing topping of a tangy slaw and vegetables. The peanut dipping sauce was a fabulous addition.
The chicken tacos were flavourful, in fun coloured taco shells- which in a conversation with Tony their lovely chef, we found were made on site and naturally coloured with cactus, spinach and hibiscus.
This spot is a small but mighty gem in puerto morelos and is a must visit for yummy food!

Sometimes you find that special place that makes you feel welcome, respected and are among friends, Maiz Maix is that place! Freddy and his staff always make us feel like family, they go out of their way to make sure we are completely satisfied. Now, let’s talk food. Tony the chef is amazing, his flavors and his presentation show you just how much he loves cooking. They have a regular menu in the evening and in the daytime, they have a premade meal, Freddy’s idea of fast food, every day. This place is a great asset to our little town.

Wow!! The chef, Toni, came out to speak with us and mentioned that he had La Coche—a fungus that grows on corn and is a Mexican delicacy. It wasn’t on the menu and I feel so fortunate he mentioned it so we could try. He fried cheese for the taco and the tortillas are handmade. There were five unique salsas and the mole (a bit sweet for our taste) is made in-house.

We had an amazing dinner with the owner of the restaurant. He gave us a bunch of free stuff including a beer, tequila and multiple sauces that we expressed interest in.
This is just the first restaurant that we tried but it was amazing. This is a must see! Do not be intimidated by the whole in the wall appearance, you will have a great time here.

Amazing food and drinks. Tony the chef is really passionate about the food he makes and was so interesting about the ingredients and origins. Jesus, the host/barman, is super friendly and welcoming and makes some of the best mezcalitas and mojitos we had. Plus the music is awesome. This is definitely the best restaurant and bar in PM!

We come to Puerto Morelos often and decided to try this cute new little place. Our food was excellent… I mean really good! Angel was our waiter and he answered all of our questions about the different dishes. I wanted to try each of the three enchilada sauces, but there wasn’t a dish that included all three… So he helped create one for me. I I got the red sauce, the mole sauce, and the green sauce. They were all incredibly fresh and delicious. But the Verde sauce and the Molay sauce were my absolute favorites. Food came out Fast and hot and we would definitely go back again. Next time I’m trying the huarache which is a thick corn Maza base with toppings of your choice. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner and seem to be open seven days a week.

I came for the first time with my partner on Valentine’s Day and a very pleasant atmosphere, with a saxophonist throughout dinner and photographers to accompany the memory of a nice day, and dinner even to talk about, delicious 10/10, without complaint, all the ingredients mentioned in the dish, feels delicious on the palate. We ordered the cornstarch and Alfredo. Both very tasty, however I highly recommend cornterranea.
We'd definitely come back.

The food was fine but the music is way too loud. We were not going to stay but the server seemed to really want our business and asked the sax player to turn down the volume so we stayed but honestly we could not hear each other to have a conversation. I put in my earplugs and we just ate and ran. Too bad as the food was actually quite good. Smokers at the 2 tables beside us were also off putting. I have not seen smoking at a restaurant for ages and was very surprised, not in a good way. Hope we find a better place tomorrow. The server was very sweet, though.

Our waiter Freddy was outstanding!! We chose Maiz Maix to be our last dinner here in PM because of the ambiance of the sax player serenading us. Very Romantic!!! Food Is Fabulous!! And our waiter Freddy was meticulously attentive.
