Called in on our way passing through. It was a very cold morning (very heavy frost and temps around 3 degrees)
Stopped for a hot breakfast.
Meal was great however some heating would have been fabulous as we froze; particularly every time the door was...opened and we couldn't find anywhere warm to sit. Warmed up a bit after our breakfast though, and bought some food to take away with us for later in the day as everything look so fresh and tastyMore
Stopped at Sweet Painted Lady Cade on our way to Hobbiton from Auckland. The staff were very friendly, especially to our 5 month old son. The food was so tasty, I’d highly recommend their pies and cakes! Overall it was a great visit.
After a long drive from Matakana, we stumbled on the Sweet Painted Lady cafe in need of a lunch break. We were warmly welcomed by a young lad and asked about our journey so far. We didn't know what we wanted to eat but were...recommended the pies. We opted for the steak one which was delicious. Also managed the chocolate eclair which was homemade too.
A kind lady asked our opinion of the pies once we had eaten them.
Very impressed by the attention and service we received. We would certainly recommend this cafe.More
We chose this cafe because of the good reviews it has. I must say that we feel very disappointed about everything. The menu is very poor and the service did not help to improve the situation. We ordered mince on toast, Eggs Benedictine with salmon...and extra mushrooms, cheese/onion toast and coffee. Everything was tasteless and you could see and feel the lack of love in the dishes, it is clear in the photos I uploaded. The Benedictine eggs had nothing extra (like the typical small side salad) except for the 2 sad spinach leaves lost under the eggs. Luckily I had ordered the extra mushrooms but unfortunately they were forgotten and when they finally brought them there was a small plate with 5 tiny plastic Mushrooms (the canned ones). Sadly, the bread was not freshly baked. The mince on toast seemed to be a prison meal of the movies and it tasted like hospital food. The coffee arrived after the dishes and was cold. I asked the waitress if there was sweetener and she answered yes but never returned with the request. Finally I went to the counter to ask for my order and she told me that they had no sweetener. By that time my coffee was already expired. I'm giving this opinion because if you guys have such good reviews you should maintain that standard of service that I think you did before (because of the previous reviews).More
Stopped over for a quick bite. We ordered a couple of steak and cheese pies — they’re really good. Meat is tender and flavorful, and the melted cheese goes well with it. One is enough for a light meal, if we’re hungrier we’ll have more....Definitely worth trying if you happen to drive by the area.
They also offer other meals, dessert options and coffees.More
This must be the best kept secret around Matamata! We stopped for lunch and had pies. Not ordinary pies but SUPER pies! Home made, big, juicy, well seasoned, reasonably priced: the best pies we had in a long while! Highly recommended! We will be back!
Lovely service, great coffee and after several visits have never been disappointed with anything we have purchased.
Don’t miss out on the Chelsea buns! Freshly made.....so yummy!
A fantastic little place!
