Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This Bakery has the BEST steak and cheese pies I’ve ever had in my life . The pastry is beautiful - The pie is full of cheese and melt in your mouth . So YUM. They should enter the NZ pie awards . They would...win it.More

Quite familiar with this cafe / bakery. Visit on most trips past Tīrau but it is better suited to travelling north as when travelling south you need to cross the road. This time I needed to find vegetarian friendly items which is limited to chips,...egg sandwich or cheese and onion sandwich/ toastie. Sort of expected at least vege burger option or salad sandwich options but sadly no. All good though - cheese and onion sandwich was fine. Also like the quaint toilets at the back - they were certainly very clean and usable unlike many other ‘flash toilets’ you may find when travelling NZ. Just glad my husband was near as the door was nearly jammed shut with me trapped inside :-S Oxford Cafe appears clean with a good selection of food on offer with acceptable price range. Staff are friendly - masks are worn…and indoor eating area is well ventilated as well as having outdoor tables. Totally recommend.More

I will not be back....fish was cold, sausage roll cold and not crispy at all....chips under cooked. We were very disapointed and will not ever be back... The food looked good in the warmer but that was as far as it went....sorry guys make sure...your fish is hot and crispy and your sausage roll are hot.More

I ride through here with the guys and stop for some food and coffee. The range of food is typical kiwi cafe food with the hot food appealing to guys as they sneak a pie and chips or some other 'unhealthy' selection. Coffee is acceptable...but not quite premium barista style. Nice outdoor area to stretch out and drop off the motorbike heavy gear before heading off again.More

Steak burger for $7.00. Add chips and a 600ml drink and $14.00. Pies around $3.50-$4.00. Small seating area outside was covered and pleasant. Amenities areas were less desirable but were there.

I had the sandwich ( cut in half, then wrapped in glad wrap) of chicken and egg. a beautiful big sandwich. No scrimping on ingredients, nicely made. A sausage roll was shared, with a flat white to top it off. great helpful service.

While heading back toward Auckland we made a quick stop for a sandwich, hot chips and a couple of drinks. Convenient for vehicles travelling north with plenty of car parks. Friendly staff - good selection of food including all day cooked breakfast. Shop is dated...and looks like it could fall over but store was clean. Certainly provided what we required at a very acceptable cost.More

This was our second visit to Oxford and both times we had excellent polite service with excellent food and coffee. The size of meals were great and not over priced! And were flexible with variations to menu. Unlike others we have dined at in Tirau....All i can say is don't be put off by initial appearances. This will be our brunch stop on southern journeys from now on.More

Stood in line for a long time (enough for both husband and wife to go to the restroom and back, taking turns) for just 1 customer ahead of us! The coffee was bad...had a short black that while it was hot with creama on top,...was so bitter I had to toss it out and I usually love strong black coffee. My husband ordered the chai latte and said it was the very worst he had in all of New Zealand! The man and woman (husband and wife?) looked like they had just gotten into an argument and were taking it out on the customers. Avoid, avoid, avoid.More

Seemingly now run by a charming couple from Cambodia, when we called in. Their prices are ridiculously low, yet their snacks, pastreys and drinks are divine. What more can I say! The competition on this street is intense, but if you don't give this place...a go, you are missing out. Don't be misled by the plain exterior, which makes a change in Tirau high street! I would love to return here. Strongly recommended.More

The Oxford cafe is unpretentious but worth a stop in. Across the road from the Bugger Cafe. The food is yummy and there is always a lot. You won't leave hungry . The coffee is hot and delicious. The prices are too good to be...true. Will definitely stop in next timeMore

We always stop here for bacon and eggs on the way through. Generous servings and an old school cafe feel, there are flasher looking places in Tirau for sure, but looks aren't everything.

do you any idea how hard it is to find a really good scone .... these are big, slightly crisp, NOT doughy and have a slight taste of what I think is vanilla essence (??) but are absolutely delicious. Will be buying a batch to...freeze when I head home. The café is nothing flash, not trendy and no fancy chairs/tables. BUT it is busy, clean and a lot of good looking cakes in the cabinet. Also very good prices. Oh and the service (for the week I have been dropping in) is very friendly. This is actually a café with lots of tables (not a restaurant). .More
