Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We found the best selection of NZ souvenirs for children – not just novelties but useful things like caps, hats and socks – much better than the gift stores in the big tourist centre further down SH5. Based on our experience in the shop, we...will definitely visit the cafe next time we are in Tirau.More

Great cafe as always! We’ve been going here many years. New owners have the place spotless and great food. And very friendly. Thank you! Parking outside usually. Cafe is small but seating outside.

Nice with seating out the back for the cafe. Lunch was unfortunately average. Saw the pies in the pie warmer, but unfortunately pie was microwaved and tasted salty and now soggy from the microwave :( Sadly had to purchase something else in Taupo hours later...as still hungry.More

Great place to stop for a coffee and a bite. We enjoyed the toasted cheese sandwiches, muffins and slices. This place takes hospitality seriously! Thank you. There’s also a nice gift shop with a good selection of items. Unique location (think sheep!)

Very good coffee and lovely hand-made food [muffins, toasted sandwich, scones, etc] served by friendly staff who were busy on the day. Nice basic premises with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Along with the cafe and Kapiti ice cream there is the associated honey...themed shop. Great travel break stopMore

Very good coffee and lovely Kapiti ice cream served by friendly staff. Clean premises, with both indoor and outdoor seating options. Along with the cafe and ice cream there are other items for sale (especially honey related!).

We were recommended to try this cafe out. Nice friendly layout, with good food (we both enjoyed the cakes we had). The shop on the same floorspace is well stocked with high quality food and honey-related items.

Nice little cafe and gift shop. They welcome dogs at the tables outside with a water dish for your dog to drink from. Nice coffees and home baking

This is the place at the rear of the building with the big sheep on top. I often stop here for an icecream on my way through, as they have the very nice Kapiti Icecream. However... the service is abysmal. We stood for ages as...3 girls stood a couple of metres away chatting, chatting, totally ignoring us, until I embarrassingly had to call out "Excuse me, could you serve us please"! I see several reviews mention this. What the heck is wrong with the management? I was on the verge of walking out... Don't they know without customers they don't have jobs? Also, pleasant place to sit outside BUT the so called garden is full of high weeds, and trellis is broken down. Desperately needs a clean up.More

We often stop here on our way through Tirau. Usually we have the toasted sandwiches as we are on a long drive. Specially good on a chilly day. The fillings are good and toasties are well made. In summer we enjoy their ice creams too.

We stopped for lunch on our road trip. We had been there before, as Tirau is the perfect little spot for lunch stops. As we were in a hurry we ordered counter food and coffees. Sausage roll was lovely as was home made relish served...with it. However 40 minutes after we sat down then watched others who arrived after us being served their menu meals, before ours finally arrived after having to ask where it was.More
