Hi, i am writing this on behalf of my father Rik Forrest who asked me to put this up for you.
He says:
"as regular diners in the area we appreciate efficient and courteous service and good value food all of which we received at the blue cap. A young lady name Ati helped serve us and made it a pleasant experience. We will certainly dine there again,"

For the first time I decided not to cook Christmas Day dinner and go out for lunch instead! It was the best decision ever. As soon as I saw on Facebook that The Blue Cap were taking bookings (only 5 minutes from home), I booked our table for 5 for 1.30pm Christmas Day. From arrival to leaving the staff could not have been more efficient or attentive. One of our party is a very fussy eater, but they could not have been more accommodating with the menu for him. The food, absolutely 5* plus. Considering how busy they were each course was hot, well presented and very very tasty. I will be booking again for this year. Thank you to Mimi and her staff for an excellent meal :)

Five stars for The Blue Cap team and how brilliantly they have adapted and made customers feel safe and confident about eating out again. Alex was our very attentive waiter and he couldn’t have been more friendly! We took advantage of the eat out to help out government scheme which meant we had more money to spend on alcohol. What’s not to love! The pub also has a beautiful side garden - I never knew that even existed, beautifully maintained too! We will definitely be back again soon, can’t wait.

We stopped here on a trip down south as we’d been booked into the Travel Lodge next door by friends.
First the positive . The setting is pleasant, olde worlde type sprawling building divided into interconnected rooms so quite cosy and private if you want that. We did move from the first table as the next table had clearly been having a post Xmas party and were having a lot of noisy fun. Great for them but we wanted a bit of quiet. The waitress was really charming and helpful and immediately found us a quieter table. We both ordered the 28 day aged sirloin which was described as succulent and tender or similar words. I asked for some braised cabbage as a side. I usually enjoy a good steak but try as I may, I couldn’t get my teeth through the meat and my partner had no chance. The braised cabbage was just a bit of shredded raw cabbage and ham warmed slightly in the microwave - the potatoes tasted as if they’d been left soaking in warm water all day. Really unpleasant. The evening manager asked how the food was, and I told her it was tough and inedible, and tasteless. She immediately brought the menu and asked us to order something else, apologising profusely for the steak disaster. We both had fish, one was cod in batter with chips and mine was bream with more awful potatoes . The fish and chips did look nice but it was chewy and tasteless and clearly bought in prepared and just reheated. Mine was a bit slimy but just about ok. We were tired and fed up with the disappointing meal after a long drive, but the very pleasant waiter said the desserts were delicious so... they weren’t delicious, just very sugary but edible, like the other staff, he was so courteous and helpful we felt we couldn’t complain again. He took 25% of the bill but it was still expensive for the few mouthfuls we managed to eat. I can’t imagine how anyone would ever make a second visit there, despite the great staff. The food was really bad and I got the impression that it wasn’t any better on other days. The restaurant is lucky to have such great employees who must feel ashamed at serving up such tasteless food. They have a good venue, good staff, it wouldn’t be a huge step to serve good and freshly cooked food. A real disappointment.

Had a couple of breakfasts here whilst stopping at the Premier Inn next door and found them both steady and unspectacular, albeit slightly inconsistent.
First morning, food was ok but not on the mark, the pork sausages resembled pellets rather than the hefty bangers expected, and all the food came slightly frosted by the attitude by the not particularly competent waitress.
Next morning, everything was better, sausages appeared in full, robust, cylindrical meaty shape and the service was full of cheer and brightness and fully competent.
On both morns, the food was perfectly edible and average, without ever really tingling the tastebuds fully.
The lack of vegan condiments and milk was slightly frustrating, but not a massive game changer.
Whilst this is probably down to Premier Inn, rather than the venue itself, I have to say we got reasonable value for our breakfasts, as we paid for two adults at full price, which allowed our two children eat free. So a win for us on that score. But if we'd been paying full price only for two adults, I think we'd have felt slightly short-changed for what we got.

I stay in premier inn around Northwich 4 nights a week normally Northwich South but due to that being full moved to Premier Sandiway.
The Blue Cap isnt part of the Premier inn but provides their resteraunt service.
1st night had Fish n Chips which wasnt the best as felt undercooked
2nd night noticed you csn get two or three courses as part of supper club which makes it more cost effective.
Had Chicken Tikka and an Eaton Mess. The first night must be a one off as deliscious and plentiful.
3rd night had peppered squid and gourmet burger again was perfect and burger was huge.
4th night tonight gone with pate, curry and if any room left an eaton mess.
One minor thing butter was to hard and no point serving it with pate as it has butter covering.
Staff are friendly and only one asked me to mention her name Ella who was friendly and attentive but all staff were good especially the young man whose name i didnt get.
Surroundings are good and suit the country pub feel.
Great food so give it a go but check the Supper Club selection to keep cost down and book ahead as really busy with local and hotel guests

Was unable to get a table till 8pm even though staying next door in hotel, arrived 7.40pm to be told we had to sit outside, staff werent very attentive and had to keep knocking at window to get served. asked for a glass of wine and beer, partner paid to be told £7 for glass of wine when bottle was £17.00 this could have been up sold and would have been only too happy to buy the bottle instead with being a saturday night.
Staff didnt come to us at 8pm to say our table was ready again had to knock on window or walk half way round the pub in the rain to get back in, sat down at our table to be greeted by a lovely waitress Chloe she made the whole experience and evening great with her humour and customer service, she was amazing and deserves some praise for the great service she gave and turned our experience around.
Food was also lovely Lamb was gorgeous and melted in the mouth, partner had the Peri Peri Chicken said was lovely also.
Scored as very Good only due to Chloe, 5 Stars couldnt fault her and she couldnt do enough for you well done

We called in without having made a booking and were accommodated straightaway despite the restaurant and bar being busy. The staff were very informative and said there might be a short delay but would do their best to minimise this.
Despite the place being busy we were really well looked after and there was little or no delay in the delivery of the excellently prepared food.
I would not hesitate to recommend this place.

Ok I know it is Monday but tonight’s food was ghastly. Sea bass and scallops on a bed of rice was like a whitewash. Cold, tasteless and no peas as expected. Not cheap and not good. Requested any thing green to go with it to be told by the manager in am not responsible for the food’ not sure who is then!!! Rice over cooked and soggy

Our grandson and his wife took us to the Blue Cap for lunch to celebrate our 56th wedding anniversary, and they made an excellent choice from many upmarket mid,-Cheshire pubs.
The pub itself is pleasing to the eye, built in 1716 it is full of character and atmosphere.
The service was good, the food excellent, and the lager very welcome.
A very pleasant lunchtime couple of hours. Strongly recommend.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Premier Inn next door so we had an evening meal on the first evening & 3 breakfasts at the Blue Cap. The ambience was very pleasant with good décor. The staff were very friendly & helpful. All the meals were delicious. The only downside for me was that being on different levels it wasn't so easy with a wheelchair. The building is very old & has been added too with different levels. It could be worthwhile investing in a ramp or 2. Otherwise all is good. We were served our evening meal by Holly. Very friendly & efficient.

Had evening meal at Blue Cap the first negative was being told we only had 90 mins for the table. We we were going to have 3 courses and a couple of drinks each. We ended up with 2 mains, one pudding and 2 drinks as don’t like rushing meals. Next I think it was dogs night out to the pub as at least 6 dogs came in during the 90 mins we were there. Dogs even sat on benches at the table and paws leaning on the area where you eat. Waitress was even stroking the dog! Staff were pleasant and service good but food not as good as we have had on previous occasions.

Tatty666, thank you for leaving us feedback. We are disappointed to hear that your experience was not a positive one. Due to the current situation, we currently give our smaller tables 90 minutes to dine with us and then 15 minutes for us to sanitise and disinfect in order to be able to re-use the table. In future, we are more than happy for you to request the table for a longer period of time when making your booking.
Regarding the dogs, we are a countryside pub who allows dogs within our establishment, specifically in our bar areas. We do make sure that we full sanitise our tables and chairs after each use, especially due to the current Covid-19 situation.
We really hope that this doesn't affect you coming back to dine with us in the future.
Many thanks,
Mimi and The Team

One-night stay at premier inn, went to blue cap for meal, the cajun chicken had no taste of chicken just old frying oil, the fries were over cooked they just broke when trying to put fork in and the ones you could eat tasted of cooking oil. Nobody came during meal to see if alright and whilst collecting plate did not ask if everything was ok, mentioned issues and got the usual response i will inform kitchen which would not of been passed on as got no apology .
Did not stay for desert as not asked if I wanted to view menu.
Very disappointed, the basics of service not available at the Blue Cap

Last minute decision to go out for lunch with my sister, so we decided to go to the nearby Blue Cap. I gave them a call spoke to Ken and it was all sorted in no time. Staff were really very helpful and the food was superb. We both only wanted something light so Sis had Caesar Salad with pieces of Steak and I had Caesar Salad with Salmon, both meals were very well presented and tasted really good. Definitely recommend that you give them a try out. You won’t be disappointed.

Whilst we have recently popped in for a drink a couple of times whilst passing on the way home we hadn’t eaten at The Blue Cap for quite some time.
Having been into Chester for the day we decided to call at about 5pm on a Friday to see if we could get a table.
Whilst our tastes are pretty simple having mushrooms to start and a Scampi & Chips and a Fish & Chips both were perfect.
However really got to mention the team. It really can’t be easy working in a busy bar & restaurant at these difficult times. But each and every one of them was brilliant!
Chatty, friendly and even suggested that next time my mum who is 84 and has a small appetite could choose something from the children’s menu.
Well done to everyone at The Blue Cap. We will see you again soon.
Take care & stay safe 😁
