Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Surrounded by ancient medieval castle walls – we dined in a vast courtyard. Tables had large umbrellas over them and string-lights crisscrossed the courtyard creating a nice overall atmosphere. Although the food was good and imaginative, our waiter clearly didn’t care about serving any of...us. Even though the place wasn’t crowded, it was a Sunday night, we had to constantly get his attention to receive any kind of service which was then offered begrudgingly. In many instances, he was just standing around, not doing much. It dragged on for so long that some of us skipped the after-desert that was part of the menu items we had already paid for. This was part of a gourmet tour. And yes, this is Europe, and our table was outdoors, so we had to deal with the smoke of the many nearby smokers all during dinner, not very appetizing. As you can see, quite an interesting dinner: • Cantaloupe melon shooters with prosciutto salt • Black pasta pillows filled with roasted pepper and tomato sauce • Grandma’s baby tomatoes with ricotta, baked in the oven (tomatoes in olive oil in a bath of super light fresh ricotta) • Ravioli filled with lavender cheese, sprinkled with parmesan dipped in butter sauce. • Sea bass with parsnip & zucchini sauce mixed with smoked pasteurized egg yolks sauce. Served with scalloped potatoes. • Blueberries with gin yogurt sorbet and fresh lemon. Bitter/delicious. You would think the restaurant would like repeat customers or at least good reviews (there were 9 of us) by treating them well, unfortunately, as good as the food was, the treatment received left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I can’t support such an establishment.More

Pleasant atmosphere, solid food. Special occasion. So far so good. The problems start in the attitude, in the answers that always have to reject any further question, the playful superiority of the person who is not there to listen kindly, answer kindly, maybe add some...relaxing thoughts. No, the person who represents the course of an important event at the castle is cold, with hidden sarcastic remarks. To appear above everyone. To be the only one who is right. Someone in such a position should know how to listen, connect with those present, communicate in a friendly and kinship way, give a feeling of acceptance, smile. Show that she is aware that the event is important. Treat everyone present impartially. To bring a feeling of pleasantness and relaxation. Unfortunately we left upset, with the feeling that someone had shattered our pleasant expectations...More

Stayed in the castle walls for a magical four days and kept giving this place a try. While they make an awesome Hugo and put together an amazing board I couldn’t possibly recommend or return to a place that treats their customers so rudely. The...final straw was when we saw a sign clearly stating the grounds close at 18:00 for an event and we breathed a sigh of relief as it was 17:15. As I watched my wife order a Hugo & beer the “man” - though he was anything but - responded rudely that they were closed & when she asked about the time he became indignant. He then ignored her to inform me that the “lady came at me” which was lie. He proceeded to storm away from us. Luckily their are plenty of beautiful castles, delicious Hugos, and amazing boards in Europe. And most don’t have people like this. Save yourself and wander the streets of Stanjel but DO NOT stop here!More

We booked it for dinner, and we were advised there was a large group booked for that night, too, which I thought very considerate. We decided on a 6-course tasting menu with a fish as main course. However, we were served 8 delicious morsels and...dishes before the main dish, which were all extremely tasty - my personal favourites were nettle-wild garlic-baby spinach soup and homemade gnocchi with capon. The amuse bouche to start was a homegrown olive with their oil and herbs - very minimalistic, but totally on point. We had several glasses of teran and pinot with our meal. The service was polite and well-paced, but not hurried. Lovely atmosphere as dusk settled in, with candles burning in every window. I recommend it to anyone enjoying great food in a romantic and cosy setting. Will return, definitely.More

But probably will not be visiting anytime soon... On sunday I woke up feeling a bit under the weather which later turned out to be rotavirus infection. It wasnt that bad until around 13:00 and we had our reservation at 14:30 so i was already...embarassed to call and cancel but i had no other choice. I called the bistro and after a couple of tries finally a lady picked up, or so o thought. After explaining, in my already pretty weak state, that unfortunately we couldn't make it on account of me being sick she just snarkily replied that people wait weeks for a table there and that it is because of sh***y people like me changing their mind last minute that ate ruining the experience for others... I suggested if i could come anyway and projectile vomit on their tables while paintint their floor with a fresh brown hue, but she kindly declined and threw down the phone before i could even remotely explain the situation... So there goes the hospitality and humanity✌️More

A nice retreat from the drizzling winter rain. The bistro windows overlook the access to to the hill on which this picturesque medieval village is located but you need to order food in order to get access to these tables. Our drinks were ok, the...place has been restored just right and if the weather cooperated it'd be perfect.More

I had lunch during the 'week of restaurants' as we were lucky enough to get a table just a couple days before. The place was packed but the waiters were still nice and made sure we were served on time. We decided to choose a...wine selection and desert on top of the 'regular' menu and it was a good choice. We had 9 course-lunch with 4 different wines in between. Each plate was perfectly prepared with the most amazing tastes combined in unique experience.More

The restaurant is located inside of the Štanjel castle. The ambient magical and it blends with the castle structure perfectly. The presonnel, leading with Gaja, gave us unique insight in to food and drinks we were consuming. No words needed for the taste part, it...was very delicious. Thanks to the team, highly recommend!More
