Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Situated in the Waikanae village shops, this cafe and bakery does a good trade. With plenty of competition close by, this is a good feat. The food is freshly made on the premises and I particularly enjoyed a chicken salad sandwich. The coffees were very...good too. It is easy to see why it is popular.More

I'm usually in once or twice a week to Joe and Joy, not only because the food is super yummy the staff are also a big drawcard, they are superb. The last few times the lovely Pia has served me. she's always bright and cheery,...has a wonderful smile to welcome you, has a great little chat with each customer and remembers you and your orders or what your last chat was about. I always leave Joe &Joy with a smile on my face and it has nothing to do with the calories I'm about to consume and everything to do with Pia and their other wonderful staff. The calories however are well worth it, whether it has been something savoury or sweet to take home, eat in or catering I have never been disappointed with anything I have had from here, the staff are just the icing on the cake!More

As a visitor I was recommended to this cafe for lunch. The food was outstanding, very difficult to choose, the staff were friendly and smiling, and my coffee was delicious. Having been in the food business for 20 years I was very impressed with everything...about my experience. I will definitely visit this cafe next time I am in Waikanae…More

Nice local cafe for a great coffee and baking. Been a couple of times and in both occasions the food has been great and service excellent. Nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. My dad said that the sandwich he had...was one of the best sandwiches he had ever had.More

The quiche was divine! The service was pretty slack considering how quiet it was (didn’t wipe down the table and had to clear it myself.) Other note: I was really disappointed my iced coffee came out in a plastic takeaway cup and straw considering I...was eating in. Try use less plastic please 🤩More

First visit here since it changed hands. The decor was lovely and fresh. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was lovely - had a veggie breakfast and it was a really decent size - I chose poached eggs and they were almost perfect -...I prefer just a little bit runnier but I'm being pedantic here - there was nothing wrong with them. The mango smoothie was served in a plastic cup with a plastic straw which was disappointing. I would have preferred it in a glass with no straw or other plastic-free option eg paper/bamboo/stainless. I do look forward to returning and trying something from the cabinet next time.More

Excellent baking, generous coffee cups and bowls. Wide choice of food choice. Dine inside or out under the parasol in summer.

We visited this coffee and bakery several times whilst visiting family in Waikanae. They made us great "piccalo" coffee and the selection of good old classic kiwi bakery food is well presented and tasty. Staff always super friendly so keep up the good work.
