Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We popped in with friends for some lunch. I ordered a cheese scone and coffee. The scone was dreadful - doughy and as hard as a rock. Took it back and they gave me another one exactly the same. I couldn't eat it so gave...it to the birds. The lady at the table next to me bought one too, but gave up trying to eat it.More

My son loves the cheese scones and I have a soft spot for the mushroom pies. Coffee is good but varies as many staff work there. Service is fast and friendly. If you are in a rush, this place is the place to go.

I loved this bakery. It was very popular the day we visited and they were low on pies. We can understand why - they are delicious! The staff were really kind and friendly. I absolutely recommend the beer and brisket pie - so tasty. I'll...be going back for one of their amazing looking sweet pastries, next time.More

What can I say? Excellent fresh bakery food served by a great team who genuinely look like they love working together - how refreshing! Barista was on the ball, knew exactly where she was with her orders, could even amend them on the fly. My...smoked chicken sarnie had so much chicken in it, worth every Penny of $14. It was Better then my main course mutton taco at Salt & Wood. Husband loved his coffee, impressed by the coffees beans. Boys thoroughly enjoyed their croissant and cheese scone. My favourite stop before heading home.More

A new-generation bakery squeezed next to a classic dairy. Great affordable food, especially gourmet pies, from beef and brisket to vegan options. Close to the motorway now and worth the stop. Patient staff go the extra mile to deal with the crowds of locals and...travelers stopping by. The woman in front of us changed her order three times, and the staff were lovely to her. I've been coming here since it opened and they've dealt with seating in various ways over that time. The shop is small and tight. Currently they are takeout-only, no in-house seating. Wish they'd bring seating back, their casual courtyard was really pleasant.More

After rating this bakery a 5 for pies recently, I have to give them a 1 for their bland, lacking any flavor lemon donuts. Ive had these before & they've been great, but this week they were tasteless with no hint of lemon in them....Ery disappointing unfortunately.More

Today I paid $60 for food to cater for a lunch at my place with three friends. I bought 4 quiches, 4 fruit Danish pastries and a loaf of bread. EVERYTHING wa stale. When I went to pick up I could see there was no...cooking happening so I suppose Tuesday is a closed day. I should have been told that nothing I ordered would be fresh. The bread was almost inedible it was so dry and tough.More

I'm trying to visit all the so called best pie shops in NZ & this was definitely one of the best. The brisket & beer pie was delish as was their lemon cream donut. 9.5 out of 10!

A really popular local haunt for good reason- either for getting a quick coffee and bite to eat, or outdoor seating on those lazy Sunday mornings. Service is always friendly and efficient. Fantastic range of quality fare.

Already can't wait to visit Waikanae again purely for Olde beach bakery's beer & brisket pie! We did also have coffee but it was rush hour so wasn't the best I had ever had.

When we first visited several months ago the pies were iconic. Delicious flakey pastry, thick flavourful filling and generous sizing. It was definitely worth the $7 and detour from the highway. After our last 2 visits however... we won’t be back. The pastry is now...dry. The portions now tiny compared to their predecessors. And the filling, well it’s still very tasty, but it barely fills 1/4 of the pie. As a result, for the same $7 you receive a pie that is on the small side as far as kiwi bakeries go, that is mostly empty dry crust. Such a disappointment.More
