We were held up by roadworks and after a long drive we did not arrive in Waikanae until just after 9 pm. The lovely polite waitress said they were just closing the shop, but were happy to stay open and give us a meal. She took the time to find out exactly what we wanted - a variety of slightly curried vegetables and beef, and the young chef gave us big platefuls cooked to perfection. Wonderful food, excellent service; we were most appreciative of their kindness at such a late hour.

We (three senior trampers from Whakatane) enjoyed a lovely evening meal at Prah Ta Pang after having survived three days on freeze dried meals out in the bush. The dining room is small to middle size and nicely decorated. The menu selection as in many Asian restaurants is large - catering for a large range of tastes.
The service was friendly and prompt. The food was absolutely fresh, very tasty and varied and the meal size was excellent -- just right. Together with a lovely glass of wine it made for a very enjoyable evening.
Despite it being on the main street there was no real street noise in the restaurant. And for those in a hurry but not wanting to miss out there are take away options

This restaurant offers reasonably authentic Cambodian/Vietnamese food, which is fresh and tasty. Incredibly cheap and a much better option than the Eastern Egret. As close to a hidden gem as you will find in Waikanae.

On a wet and cold Sunday night we took an early (just past 5) table for four for dinner. For appetisers I had the stuffed chicken wings, my teenage daughter had the pork skewers, my sister had the prawn summer rolls and Mum had the prawn toasts. We all shared and it's very difficult to decide which dish was the more delicious - they were all fabulous! Same with the mains - fantastic selection and all fresh and tasty. The restaurant was filling quickly but service was still attentive and friendly. As it had been my turn to pick the restaurant I was chuffed that everyone was blown away by the amazing meal.

I have eaten here many times and also had the takeaways. The food is consistently delicious and the service good. Just writing about this place makes me hungry! Highly recommend anyone in Waikanae go there for dinner

The food was average and the sweet and sour pork I had was not nice. The spring rolls were quite good though.
They only take eftpos so no credit cards. This is very unusual.

We were a party of 5. One meal was half hot half cold as if they had not tossed the food in the wok .The fish balls tasted as if they had been taken from the fridge and stuck in the microwave oven. Not heated through and inedible

This was a great, unexpected find. My friend and I loved all of the food to the point we're contemplating going two nights in a row. Lovely, flaky roti with yummy dipping sauce and out-of-this-world curries.

Arrived there on Saturday night (please note level 1 no distancing restrictions now!!) the place was half empty but admittedly we had not booked. Normally this is a place that is friendly and welcoming but not last Saturday we were told that we could have a table for two or three but not for four. There was four of us.... we asked if we could have two tables of two and put them together - we were told No!! So we left ...Weird!!?? I don't understand why we were turned away....another business not needing your hard earned money after Covid ....
