Holty's Hideaway Ha'atafu is Owned and Managed by Tim and Paula Holt who moved to Tonga from Australia over 7 years ago. This boutique resorts caters for up to 22 Guest's who have a choice of Self Catering or Serviced Accommodation, In Ground Swimming Pool and of cause the popular Holty's Hideaway Café which boast's the best burgers in the Kingdom. The cafe opens to outside Visitors from 12pm until 7.30pm 7 days per week. The property is located 70metres from Beautiful Ha'atafu Beach.

Couples retreat

It was the best experience ever being away from town as it gets busy and nosey where we live. This was our paradise away from home and so peaceful and relaxing. Paula made sure we were well looked after.

Great spot for lunch

We stopped for lunch, great service and food and only a few minutes to the beach. Open 7 days which is great as most places in Tonga shut on Sunday

One of our favorite spots

Having lived in Tonga for a number of years, we were regular visitors to Holty’s. The casual vibe and delicious cafe food are exactly what you want on a tropical island. The location is brilliant too; a stones throw from the best and most beautiful snorkeling beach on the island. Combine all that with lovely chatty owners and staff and some gorgeous, friendly dogs and you’re in island paradise. We will definitely be back!

Walked all the way to this place in the middle of the afternoon for a cold beer and a hamburger. I entered the cafe and waited, called but no one appeared except 2 dogs who followed me back to my resort and sat outside my room. Oh well.....next time perhaps

Hi, We are very sorry about not being there, there was a closed sign on the gate, as we went to town to fill prescriptions and get provisions for our guest's and our selves as we knew we were getting ready for lock down with the virus. Our first concerns were for our In House Guest's. I am sure you would understand this. Regards Paula Holt Owner

Was a nice environment, cute dogs. The lady seemed very ‘gossipy’ and ran down the current managers of where we were staying (Heilala) and I overheard her running down somewhere else to another couple. She told us in a shocked way that all they served was Chinese food as they were Chinese managers but then I searched through her own menu and couldn’t find any traditional Tongan food on her menu! (And the Chinese was beautiful at Heilala, and they also serve genuine Tongan food which she does not!) So, was nice to have a burger and fries but a bit too ‘in my face’ to return. The guy seemed nice, not as intense. We need to hold each other up in hospitality, not tear each other down.

Hi Meg, Everyone is entitled to do a review, but if you do one you should tell both sides of a conversation. You and your friends were saying how bad your accommodation etc was and how run down things were, We are a beach café advertising hamburgers not Tongan Food. My husband never even spoke to you, and as a parting remark your friend said how she was going to put a review on about your Accommodation and the state of it after you check out. Also there was no one else in the Café. So please when reviewing tell the whole story please. Regards Holty's

Holty’s a real highlight

We’ve had such a wonderful time staying at Holtys. We’ve been made to feel so welcome by Tim and Paula who have looked after our every need. Holtys has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. You soon get to know the other guests. We’ve started feeling like part of the family. The Garden Fale is comfortable and spacious. Just a short stroll down to one of the best beaches you’ll ever see. Great snorkelling, swimming and surfing. And Holtys has a fabulous cafe. Delicious food, wonderfully cooked. The Mahi mahi is to die for and the Jordie burger is pretty special too. And the dogs are just adorable. T-bone has earned a special place in my heart. Thank you so much Tim and Paula and your staff for making these few days so special. We’ll definitely be back!

Chicken burger not made of chicken

Went here for lunch, ordered the flame grilled chicken burger with chips. Sort of expected a piece of chicken that had been grilled. What we got was a burger out of a packet that was some sort of processed chicken meat with brown stripes on it to make it look flame grilled. The sort of burger you might cook for a child. Tasted like processed meat too. Not cheap either at TOP$24. Very disappointed.

So sorry you were disappointed, The Flame Grill is on with a special at the moment as it is impossible for us to get our normal chicken snitzel, hence why it is not in our normal menu. You may have been more happy with the Jordy Burger which is marinated chicken breast. Had you told us to our face we could have made you the Jordy Burger and rectified your complaint. I find it very sad that people these days cannot approach some one to there face and discuss an issue.

To Tim, Paula, sassy Pepper girl, gentle T-bone and last but certainly not least wacky Teriyaki: A massive thank you! Thank you for the fabulous lunches, the great chats, and best of all the warm greetings full of kisses and snuggles (from the pooches of course). My partner and I loved coming to Holty's every afternoon for lunch, it was something that quickly became something we looked forward to after his morning surfs. The burgers were amazing, the mahi mahi was amazing, the fish burgers were amazing, the cold Maui's were amazing. Every last bit of it was unreal and we wouldn't for a second hesitate to recommend it. So once again, thank you. If I could rate this place 10 stars I would. We can't wait to come back next year! Burgers for dinner

This is a member on your trip Advisor. I seen the banner of yours inside as best best place. I wouldn't give it a rating or for quality food. The menu book was dirty sticky, And only some burgers to choose from, no other main males I didn't see.... the burgers didn't look real good, I wouldn't even give it a rating sorry.. 😕 My friends from New Zealand vomited that night and I was bit sick in the stomach also from their food.....🙁 Sorry for the bad rating of This Place....

Thanks so much for revue John T. I remember very well you being here, but I'm very surprised that you even remember being here. As I see from the way your revue is written and spelt you were in exactly the same state when you wrote it as you were here. Not hard to see why your friend(s) was vomiting and you were a bit sick in the stomach. Funnily enough the only "menu book" that is "dirty sticky" is the one you used.

The Lifesavers of The Western Tongatapu Coast

This review has been a long time coming...but visitors to The Sunset Coast of Tongatapu would frankly be lost without Holty’s Beach Cafe’ and its hard working owners! We have had the pleasure of spending a number of weeks in “blocks” of last year being guests at Holty’s. Over that time we saw so many tourists coming to see the beautiful coast - and particularly Ha’atafu Beach. Paula and Tim Holt (“The Holty’s”) - without exception that we could see - fed and “watered” all comers, even when it would often be outside their advertised business hours, and they had appeared from other resorts on this coast. Tim whips up a storm in his wee kitchen, and the most delicious burgers, toasted sandwiches and fries appear (like your fries crunchy?.....ask Tim to make them “evil fries” - he will - and they are, and you will keep coming back for more!). The Cafe’ is a welcome 1 minute stroll up from the beautiful Ha’atafu Beach: beach -cool coral rock floor, very welcome shaded canopy, and thanks to the unbeatable Paula, always immaculately clean! Paula runs a fantastic front of house - great cold Tongan beer, and wine served on tables covered with lovely bright Pacifica tablecloths. (And a couple of the most fantastic Tonga dogs we have met!). Having lived on Tongatapu for some years, Paula and Tim always seem to be so generous with their time and suggestions to make guests in both the cafe ‘, (and their adjoining resort ) visit to The Kingdom an even better experience. Holty’s Beach cafe’ is a gem - and a very welcome one on a baking hot day in paradise!

Magical place in paradise

Sun, salty sea, swimming, snorkeling, coconuts, and a gentle breeze. Devine..... Holtys is situated on the western side of the island. A very welcoming arrival with Paula, Tim and their beautiful dogs TBone and Pepper. Perfectly manicured gardens, spotless accommodation, sparkling pool, and a delightful cafe for if you don’t want to cook on the bbq provided or the well equipped rooms. Paula is a great source of information for day trips or island hopping. The local bus will drop you to the door and is a wonderful experience to travel into town for a market, shopping or sightseeing journey. The best part of staying at holtys is that it’s private, serene and only a few steps to the beach. Tim is the cafe chef and I strongly suggest you try the jordy burger!! The beer, wine and coconuts are always cold and the cafe is a good place to meet like minded fellow travelers. I would highly recommend staying here but definitely recommend a lunch or dinner after a swim at the local beach.

It seems a bit out of the way, but well worth the detour. Lovely quiet place, the food was great, place was clean and comfortable. They also have rooms/apartments for rent which look great!

We stopped in here for lunch on a tiki tour around the island...what a find!! The cafe is very small but the food is well priced and delicious 😋 The owner was very friendly and chatty and their dogs joined us for a walk on the beach 😍

Dear Kathie, So sorry to see you did not enjoy your time at the Café. I would like to make a point to your Critic that Staff being unfriendly, that was actually me the Owner and conversation was made but you girls were happy chatting together as far as the Burger when asked you said it was lovely and ate it all. If you had, had a problem maybe it is best to approach us at the time. As you can see from our other Reviews we get lovely reviews for our Food and Hospitality may it was you that was having a bad day.
