Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Meet my family over here after my wedding my mam and dad decided to stay for a weekend so we went over to them we were playing pool and had drinks and food my mam is only getting over brain tumors so every get together is important to us but at 8.30 we went up to the bar to get drinks and the barman refused us because we had the kids i said that food is still served until 9 so we could still have a drink and we would be gone by then because my partners parents were mining them but he still refused so i got the kids dropped to there grandparents and came back but the sidter and her partner had gone because of this if this had happened before my wedding i would have not had a wedding here its a shame the staff member needs more training thats without a doubt

After a walk on a warm day on Donabate Beach, we popped in here for a bite to eat.
The outdoor terrace was exactly what we were looking for, and staff were pleasant and prompt.
We had a club sandwich and a chicken tikka wrap, both of which were tasty and a generous portion size. The bar looked pleasant too, so would be happy to visit again.

Stopped off for lunch after a long walk along the cliff from Portrane and them down the long Donabate beach. Food was very good and reasonably priced. I had the Cumberland sausages and my wife had the fish and chips. Place overdue a retrofit, but definitely recommended for a long walk and well earned lunch with a lovely seaview

after a brisking walk along the beach we headed into the tower bar for lunch, was a good crowd and some tables were reserved . Himself ordered at the bar for a starter and main for both of us . we were not waiting that long but... out came the mains first.. we said we ordered a starter to which the server looked confused and the barman came down and said he thought we wanted the whole lot together but HELLO why would we order them to come out at same time and anyway where is the starter. I commented that I hope the mains wont be just kept warm and sent back out, to this he said "no they will be freshly made again" To start I had the goats cheese crostini which was very nice, Himself had the smoked mackerel which again was nice , but then our mains came out which was a cranberry panini and a chic tikka wrap both with homemade chips but these two were not freshly made as we had seen these before, you know whats fresh and whats reheated. not good and not too tasty. Himself also noticed a server attempting to clean down a table with a newspaper he had cleared from a different table..... some bars ,restaurants and hotels would give their eye teeth for a location like this but here they don't see the potential. Next time I think we will bring a picnic and have it on the beach

It is two years since I last visted this hotel, and what a difference no investment makes. The bar area needs a complete makeover. Tatty and dirty chairs, dirty and badly scrached tables. The food menu looks appealing but is quite woeful in reality. My delivered food was incorrect, no apology, tomato sauce all over the condiments, again no apology, the duty bar manager blamed his staff (but not his fault). Having read the managemnt's previous responses, it appears that little heed is taken from reviewers here, to say the place is undergoing refurbishment does not resolve operational issues and that fact that the place is dirty

I had visited here once before in 2010, only for a cocktail. We happened to be in the area and I remembered they have a wonderful sea view from the bar. Lunch was good. Mister had a BLT Club with chicken and pronounced it very tasty, as were the chips (fries). I indulged in the Wild Mushroom Linguine. The mushrooms seemed to be ordinary button shrooms and the linguine was likely packaged, but it was quite good regardless and I devoured most of it! The lemon tart had a brulee top, shortbread crust and was served with a scoop of strawberry ice cream (they had run out of vanilla ???). The server, Cindy, was very pleasant and even shared a photo she had taken of the glorious sunrise that morning! All said, the food was very good but the VIEW.....oh my! Looking out at the changing Irish Sea was mesmerizing. Well worth a daytime visit!

The Waterside House Hotel bar/restaurant. Served a superb selection at breakfast, catering for every taste! Our family also enjoyed dinner from the bistro menu again offering a lovely meal at a modest price. We were dressed casually for a day beside the strand and felt comfortable also the Tar bar restaurant staff are so helpful and attentive. We plan to return.

There has been a change in this kitchen staff during the last year and what a pleasure to get a decent snack/lunch/nibbles at the end of a walk along the nearby beaches.
Reasonable prices, experienced staff and always something going on in the hotel, weddings etc.
Only one thing I noticed but maybe it will be picked up and developed with a bit thought. There are a lot of dog walkers about but no services are provided for them, say if there was a dog area ie. water facilities, maybe separated individual fenced area's for dogs with sm.bin (for poops),this could only encourage more customers and bring us up to date with other forward thinking European countries.... just a thought..

While staying in the hotel we ate here recently for three days.Breakfast is very tasty and filling and we had only a light lunch , but in the evening a full dinner. Everything was cooked to our satisfaction and served by a very attentive staff. The sea views make this an amazing place to eat!

This bar was part of the hotel we stayed in on our last night in Ireland. It is located directly on the beach and has a million dollar view. There is a huge outdoor seating area but it was a little too chilly to enjoy in mid October. Mary was very kind and accommodating to our many enquiries and requests. We started off with the soup of the day which was sweet potato which was good. We also had an order of spicy hot wings which my wife thought were excellent. I ordered the Waterside house signature beef burger which was huge and yummy. My wife ordered the Monday night special fajita which she thought was not spicy but it was good. Then for desert I had the brownie which was full of walnuts and my wife ordered the sticky toffee pudding and both were good. We would highly recommend this pub for the good food, outstanding service, and amazing view.

Great food & service. Always a beautiful view in rough or calm seas! A little walk along the coast path makes room for Sticky Toffee Pud!
