Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dined with my husband yesterday at one of our local pubs and ordered the beef Sunday roast. Unfortunately the roasted meat was cold, the Yorkshire pudding burnt on the base and the friendly and very helpful staff were unable to offer or find any mustard or horseradish sauce. I've been dining these past few Sundays at various Sydney pubs checking out the best Sunday roast and at this stage this pub isn't a "winner". More care by the kitchen staff would make the meal more inviting especially when it wasn't a busy lunchtime.

Hi There, We are disappointed to hear about your recent experience with us at The Rag & Famish, thank you for your feedback, it’s greatly appreciated & I have passed your review onto our management & kitchen team. We pride ourselves on our Sunday roast so are saddened to hear that it wasn’t up to scratch on this occasion – we do hope that you will give us another go sometime soon in hopes to come up with the goods next time & we’ll make sure we have plenty of condiments on hand! Thank you again!

The food was kind of average, but still expensive. Although a pub grub menu we expected a better experience based on previous visits to this venue. Most disappointing was the Bread & Dips . The bread was very stale and the three dips were not fresh, as if they had been made a day or two before. We complained about this dish but all we got was an apology, not an offer of an offer to exchange or refund the money.. The old days are definitely long gone. This is not a venue we will visit any time soon for the food (although the beer offerings were well above average).

Good music and atmosphere. Ordered sunday roast and the presentation was great, only to be disappointed with the taste. The pork was tough, very little gravy to eat the whole thing with, very small, burnt, and crispy yorkshire pudding. The gravy was pretty much only enough if you have 4 dips. Bar staff was friendly, but i dont think i'll come back for another meal. Good selections of beer. Also, i was sitting near the toilet and pokeys room, at some point can smell really strong ciggy smell.

The only thing holding up the Rag is Jobkeeper in my opinion. The restaurant is closed, there is no live entertainment, no Karaoke , social distancing a non issue because of low patronage. I have experienced harassment in the past at the Rag from dubious security who wore no ID and failed to produce ID when asked for... not to mention when entering recently , signing in on my phone I was refused service on the basis I had not signed in , when I raised the issue later with the Manager showing the sign in his response was " I want you to piss off and not come back". So with the ongoing transformation of North Sydney there are many new alternatives like Glorietta's with faultless decor and reasonable pricing for food and beverage or a quick trip to Liquorland will get you a bottle of nice wine for the same cost as a beer at the Rag, Personally I feel sorry for the owners being let down so badly by others.

Pre-booked/paid the Sunday Roast (as is required) then told upon arrival they were sold out. Offered anything off the menu but “maybe can’t refund” the pre-paid roast. End up getting roast sides with a steak and told that’s the roast of the day. Not to mention it taking 75 minutes to come out. Shame. Such a lovely old school pub but service left a lot to be desired. Not fault of staff on the night - just poorly run system. Go there for a beer and a pie and the footy.

Staff very good and friendly. Food was average unfortunately. Great size kids meal, but salt and pepper squid was oily and almost soggy. Didn't come with a salad on the side like it does in WA to freshen it up a bit. Not too bad priced but we left feeling queasy from all the oil in the meal.

Wonderful food and fine dining here at one of the oldest pubs in Sydney with colonial atmosphere. Notable were the roast duck with chorizo potato galette and a superb steak says husband. Great service and well appointed wine list.

Had dinner in the bistro the other night with my two pre teenage daughters and whilst the menu was great for a pub bistro, the setting isn’t ideal for kids. We are used to pubs out west where there are play areas and activities for kids alas this pub has none of that. So apart from not bringing kids here, try the Monday night steak for $15. Delicious and a generous serving. I believe there are other theme nights as well so will be keen to try them. Sorry kids it’s Maccas for you.

Pie OK but mash and peas just about warm but plates were hot. Beer was Hawkes lager on offer of a pint at schooner price but still over $11 and cheapest red wine over $11. Costly meal.

Pretty much the only place open on a Sunday night till 10pm in North Sydney. But what a place to watch the footy and eat one of those amazing humongous pies they serve. I had a beef and Guinness pie with peas and mash and quite a few pints whilst watching the footy. Apparently it’s quite a boisterous place during the week and a lot more reserved on weekends. It’s definitely a must try especially those pies.

Received half the lunch order and the other half arrived 30 minutes later. When asking staff to reheat the first meals the attitude was deplorable and attitude sucked. Don’t bother eating there. Staff rude and completely clueless. Staff should rather be non-customer facing.

Our friends would all get together here for either lunch or an after work drink. Great atmosphere and clean facility. The outside area in back is a nice touch. Excellent gathering spot for friends to hang out and enjoy each others company over a cold beer..

It's a wasteland here, mostly tarted up corporate warehouses at prices higher than even the Hills. The Rag is a classic old pub that seems much more pleasant yet the prices are no higher than the others (still extremely high).
