My wife and I ate at Stones last week and enjoyed one of the best meals we have ever eaten. We ordered the taster menu accompanied by the wine flight. Every course was perfectly accompanied by a different wine (Don't plan on driving home!) and...More

We visited Stones to celebrate my birthday and it didn’t disappoint. We tried the 8 course tasting menu, all the food was delicious. What stood out for me was the horseradish panna cotta (such a fantastic taste), lobster and cheese and biscuits. Service was very...More

This year I remembered to book well enough in advance (several months) to get a table on a Saturday! Drinks and Canopies on the terrace were an excellent start to a lovely meal. Service was very good too.

Lovely location and great to have an aperitif on the terrace. We had the tasting menu and it was excellent. No shortage of food and a chance to try something new. Booking in advance is recommended.

The value for money is excellent. I’m not sure why anyone would gripe and go on about Michelin stars. Reductio ad absurdum Utterly daft comparison We’ve eaten all over Europe and one of my favourite places is Tom Kerridge’s. But it’s astronomically expensive so not...More

Visited here as a couple. We opted for the tasting menu. The first two courses were brilliant, however the menu went downhill following this. The scallops were not particularly flavourful and crushed peas for the sake which didn’t work. The hake was over cooked, no...More

Description
Dinner - Tuesday to Saturday 6.30-9pm. Lunch - Wednesday to Saturday 12-2pm. Tucked away in the heart of idyllic Matlock, Derbyshire, Stones is a modern, eclectic restaurant with a stylish, welcoming interior and a superb modern British menu. The restaurant, which added a new riverside conservatory in May 2013, is jointly run by Kevin Stone, Head Chef, partner, Jade Himsworth and sister, Katie Temple. Stones' riverside conservatory overlooks the babbling River Derwent. The menus change seasonally to reflect the very best in local produce, and the wine to match the food. Stones' philosophy is to provide a fantastic dining experience in a relaxed setting. The dining room which is popular with couples, locals and visitors, is a perfect place for romantic, family or business meals. Stones has been awarded two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence.
