We’re staying in Portrush for a week and have been very disappointed by the lack of choice for dining, indeed most places seem shut during the week (surely June is holiday season!?) so we were delighted to find this little gem because of the excellent trip advisor reviews. We weren’t disappointed - our best meal in our 2 weeks on holiday. A great location (it was raining, but would be amazing on a sunny day!) and the menu had so much choice it was hard to decide. We both opted for the tapas plates, which were excellent value, and every one presented beautifully and piping hot. Beware, TAPAS means small plates and these were anything but! Lots of them were big enough for two. The charcuterie platter was well worth the supplement, the pork fillet just divine as was the chicken skewer and tempura cauliflower. My husband loved his panko squid, and was overwhelmed by the portion sizes of his other two choices. Fantastic location, great menu and food and excellent value for money. Can’t believe it wasn’t packed out on a Friday evening in June. Get booking now!

We ate in Ocho on Saturday night for my wife's birthday for the first time. We have a caravan at the north coast and it was so handy. Beautiful location looking over the Bann and when we arrived we were greeted by the excellent staff. We were unaware of the Pre Theatre menu for Tapas and it was excellent value. But we were most impressed by the fantastically knowledgeable staff, their knowledge of and passion for the food. We asked for recommendations for food and a recommendation for a wine pairing. Every single bite was absolutely fantastic, the wine was excellent and the aubergine chips and tempura cauliflower wings are a must. A refreshingly excellent find in every way and we will be regulars going forward. Go and you won't be disappointed!

My wife and I went there last night. We had never been there before but had heard about this restaurant when it was in Portstewart. We had an absolutely superb meal. The waitresses Abbey and Mitzy were really excellent and knowledgeable and talked us through the menu. There are lots of small plate tapas style dishes available and they were really clever mixes between tapas style dishes with the best local ingredients. For example, one of our small plates was a goats cheese bon bon dish with sweet pickled beetroot; glazed cooked beetroot and a beetroot goats cheese purée. Really well balanced and tasty dish. Everything was fresh and really well presented. There is a lot of skill going on in the kitchen and I have to say that 4 tapas plates and two mains plus a couple of glasses of wine was really good value at £88 for the quality of the food. Will happily go again when I’m in the area.

After being here when yous first opened in July (which was amazing) we decided to go again on Thursday evening and to say it was horrendous would be an understatement!!!! Food was cold, service was bleak, the two girls stood and chatted the entire time without even acknowledging us and it wasn’t even a busy night, a curly head girl came down and didn’t know a thing about what was in each dish (I’ve an peanut allergy) and just couldn’t have cared less to put it bluntly! Last time we were in were were served by Anna and another lady both seemed to have their wits about them….. Bring them back until then I won’t be back through ocho bistros doors. Good luck next time.

We used to love this place when it was in Portrush. Back then, the menu was a proper tapas and extensive. However, this is not a tapas restaurant by any stretch of the imagination, and playing Spanish music in the background doesn’t make it one. The food was just okay, but the triple-cooked chips were horrendous and looked like a potato cut into four because they were so big! Sadly, we won't be back.

We were staying in Portrush and I had heard about this restaurant and I wasn't disappointed . From the welcome at the front door , service , and the food - everything was amazing. We asked for recommendations from the menu - the server was very knowledgeable about the menu and offered choices. The food was magnificent , served and presented well. The menu was detailed and explained well and came as described. The service was spot on and the servers were attentive and helpful. A very enjoyable evening. Thank you

So happy to have lunch in Ocho Tapas today. Have not been in since the Portrush days. The food was delicious as always. The dates in bacon are our favourites and we've been ordering them since Ocho was on Captain Street in Coleraine. Thankfully the lunch time/early evening tapas menu features them and other favourites. The four tapas meal is a good big lunch for two people and at ÂŁ24.95 (ÂŁ12.50 per person) it's a good price for the taste and quality of the food.

This is one of my favourite restaurants. The new location is stunning but probably doesn't get as many patrons as it should in the off season due to being a bit out of the town. We were there again tonight, this time sampling the early bird special which is amazing value. The food is always great, tasty, fresh flavours & seasonal. The venison presse was soo good.. This place never disappoints. Stunning in the summer due to its riverside location but well worth visiting year round - definitely one of the best local eateries.

First time at Ocho having wanted to try it for quite some time. Good bits first - staff were lovely and atmosphere good, even for a relatively quiet lunch time service - lovely to watch passing boats and the occasional train across the river. Prices were fair for two courses - either a starter and main or main and dessert. Sadly the food did not live up to expectations with all dishes lacking in any real stand out quality. Not bad food but with so much to offer on the north coast it needs to up the game.

Visited recently as a party of 6. 4 of us opted to share tapas while the other 2 ordered of the regular menu. Everything was fabulous what stood out food wise for me was the Aubergine with the butterscotch miso. My friend had the pork fillet and said it was a very good roast. The main thing that made this visit for me was the friendly staff we were served by Meredith and Mitzy and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for the friendly welcome and greats service throughout would visit again if I am in the area .

We dined here this evening, family of four, young kids. We regularly eat out in portrush area but this was our first time here and we were not sure what to expect. First impressions were tired decor but we had nice table next to window with lovely sea views. The Spanish wine was lovely and the food was very tasty - we had mixed paellla, patatas bravas, lamb rump and chicken skewers as well as kids cod Goujons. Now it was a tad pricey but service was fine and we enjoyed the food far more than the Ramore complex a few nights previous.

Having visited this restaurant several times in Portrush, and loved it, we were looking forward to dinner at the new site, in the York hotel in Portstewart. It gives me no pleasure to say that we were terribly disappointed. We ordered a cocktail on arrival and before the cocktail arrived a waitress came to take our order. We also ordered a bottle of wine (which was very good). The cocktails arrived, the wine arrived and the food started to arrive within two minutes. This meant that we didn’t get to enjoy our cocktails. We ordered 7 tapas (they recommend 6 but we couldn’t choose!) with the exception of the fantastic cauliflower wings and the chicken skewers, the food was very under seasoned and bland, although there were beautiful fresh peas with the duck. One of the dishes did not arrive at all (patatas bravas) and we mentioned this to the waitress when she came to clear the table. With a half-hearted apology, she said she would ensure it was taken off the bill. It was not so we had to ask again when we were paying. Overall, we felt very rushed and felt that the standard of food had, sadly, dropped. Such a pity as we genuinely had previously loved it. We won’t return

My husband and I always make a point of dining here when we come up to the North Coast and have never been disappointed. We dined here last night and had another excellent meal. The food is always delicious and of a high standard. The staff themselves are always very friendly and professional.

Having eaten in Ocho many times and enjoyed it, we went again to the new location in Portstewart. Ordered mussels as one of the dishes and oh dear- the dish stank of rancid shellfish. It was undeniable and utterly rank. However, mistakes do happen. The dish was sent back and we planned to carry on. Que a member of staff coming out to argue that they were fresh, followed by another member of staff with a recipet from when they bought them. That is all very well, but in the hottest week in history in NI clearly a long-dead mussel had made its way into the dish. The smell was so bad it was almost vomit-inducing. So in short, if a restaurant has an obvious issue and tries to argue otherwise with the customer then they are a lost cause. We won't be back and if you do decide to go, don't expect a mature response if you have any concerns.

Hi Sweepston, We having been waiting for your review. I spoke to you after you totally demised two other staff members who politely tried to talk with you. I brought you our delivery receipt from our fish and shellfish suppliers we had received the mussels the day before and you eventually agreed that a closed mussel may have slipped through, We clean debeard and scrub every mussel that comes in which is a laborious job but we believe in serving fresh local produce, Today I have rechecked with our Suppliers Donegal Prime and confirmed our mussels are delivered to us twice a week on a Wednesday and a Friday having been harvested the day before, At this time of year the mussels are spawning and have a stronger smell but certainly not "Rancid" We take great pride in supporting local producers and feature as much local produce as we can on our menu and we are happy to have Strangford lough mussels on our menu for the last 8 years. We know how to cook mussels but a closed one may have slipped through which would of course have an off putting odour. But what I would like to point out is that we do not accept aggressive behaviour, you got our of your seat twice and were completely in my face. Your wife had to calm you down and get you to sit back down. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated. Customers and staff wanted to come to my side because of your aggressiveness . I'm sure you are normally a perfectly respectable person but it is with great pleasure that we will never have to see you again . Your wife apologised to all the on her departure and was totally mortified. We wish her well. Best Regards Trudy and Sean Brolly
