Lunched here in August and it was really super. We decided to take a family member here for a birthday treat on a Wednesday evening a few weeks later but to our shock it was totally booked out. We didn't realise that it was Steak Night so we came back the next Tuesday evening, and so glad we did !!
We were made SOOO welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
Unlike many establishments on the north coast, we were able to take our time in ordering each course at our leisure, and unlike so many places, the food was obviously freshly prepared and cooked to order.
The food, like the staff, was superb. We loved our evening in The Quays.
We WILL return ! As soon as possible !!

Booked here on the recommendation of a friend who said that the grub was good and the staff really friendly and she was right! We booked a table for 7.00 and the place was buzzing on a cold, wet January night. The staff were absolutely lovely, chatty and friendly. I ordered the sugar pit pork which was a really tender pork chop but the revelation was the braised hispi cabbage, it was so good! My partner had the salt and chilli chicken burger which he really enjoyed but said he’d maybe get the curry sauce on the side next time. I can also vouch for their espresso martinis. Really recommend The Quays!

A massive thank you to the Quays Bar & Gastropub Portrush from Ards Rangers Juniors 2016 squad. After a fantastic day at the Portrush Summer Cup, the team at the Quays hosted the squad, coaches and parents for their post tournament meal. Superb hosting, friendly atmosphere, kindness shown to the kids, topped off with excellent food and service.
Couldn't ask for more and helped make memories for the boys.
Highly recommended and certainly worth a visit.

This is definitely NOT a 'Gastropub'. We were in the Port for a month and frequently dined there, we were happy with everything, staff, atmosphere...We tried most of the mains and found them to be tasty and substantial. The last time we were there...never again!!! I wasn't feeling very hungry so I asked for the cauliflower starter...it was inedible, hard, little coated and deep-fried balls covered in a firey sauce. I asked if I could change and the manager asked what I would prefer I asked about the calamari but only if they weren't coated...of course they were, my guess is frozen and deep-fried like the cauliflower. I ordered the bruschetta which was served on a slice of seeded bread : (((
When I went to pay we were charged for the cauliflower which I had only tasted. I complained but was told 'We always do it like that'. I wrote an email that wasn't answered so I gave had no option but to warn others from this page. What constitutes a gastropods???
Certainly not the Quays

Thank you so much for your enlightening feedback! We're thrilled that after a month of dining with us and enjoying our staff, atmosphere, and most of our mains, you’ve finally discovered the truth: The Quays is definitely not a gastropub. What a revelation!
Now, just to clear things up for you—and anyone else who might be confused—let’s take a moment to define what a gastropub actually is. According to the dictionary, a gastropub is "a pub that specialises in serving high-quality food, blending the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of a pub with the culinary standards of a fine dining restaurant." So, by that definition, we are indeed a gastropub. Our chefs prepare dishes just as described on our menu, and they are certainly not frozen bought in products, including those "firey" cauliflower bites and the calamari, which, as you correctly guessed, are indeed coated. Shocking, we know!
We serve all our dishes exactly as we do to every other customer, many of whom, we’re delighted to say, thoroughly enjoy them. We're sorry if the cauliflower starter wasn’t to your taste—it seems that after a month of dining with us, we may have finally stumbled upon a dish that didn't meet your expectations. That’s the risk one takes when trying new things, isn’t it?
As for the seeded bread bruschetta, we apologise if our creative take on this classic dish wasn’t what you were hoping for. We aim to put our unique spin on traditional favourites, and we’re sorry if this particular twist didn’t hit the mark for you.
Regarding the charge for the cauliflower starter, we do have a policy of charging for any food that has been ordered and tasted, as it was prepared by our kitchen with care. We’re sorry if that wasn’t clear at the time.
We also apologise that your email went unanswered—this isn’t our usual standard, and we’ll be sure to look into it.
In conclusion, we’re delighted that you enjoyed most of your meals with us, and we hope you’ll consider giving us another try in the future. After all, variety is the spice of life—and so is a little fiery sauce now and then!
Cheers,
The Quays Team

We have been here twice, once for Sunday lunch and once for Wednesdays steak night. The first thing I'll say is that it's extremely busy but the staff are very ,very pleasant and efficient. The food is excellent and well presented and they don't scrimp on it either. The steak night was very good value, the Sunday lunch was expensive enough but it was over holiday period but all in all worth it. We hope to be back soon.

Stopped in after a round of golf on a Sunday evening. It was less than welcoming and completely unfriendly. We waited for 15 minutes for a drink while everyone else around us was served. Food was decent, but not great. Many in our party ordered the chicken and found it to be salty. A glass was broken and flew all over someone in our party. We attempted to help the staff find the many pieces as we were trying to help, but that was unwelcome as well. We are quickly and went to a much more friendly place!

Food not great, but their dress code is very confusing. I had a northern ireland top on Me and was asked to either cover up or leave! Quays Is in Northern Ireland.... but however a band was playing that were very entertaining and were wearing GAA tops which seemed acceptable to the management? We decided to take our business elsewhere where we weren't feeling intimidated about our cultural traditions. I would advise anyone who likes good food to avoid this kip and also advise their management to respect their clientele.

Last night, I dined at The Quays Bar and Gastro Pub. Despite the new menu being available, we opted for the Tuesday night curry special, and it did not disappoint.
To start, we enjoyed the mixed kapora with dip and fish kofta. Both dishes were seasoned perfectly, and I especially recommend the kapora.
For our main course, we savored the lamb Jalfrazi and the chicken Rogan josh. Both dishes were bursting with flavor and just the right amount of spice.
The rice and homemade naan bread were exceptional, and the portion sizes were generous.
The staff, as always, were friendly, accommodating, and professional, and we always have a good time with them.
I highly recommend trying a curry from The Quays for a delicious dining experience.

Inattentive staff, just a busy bar with televisions blaring, no finesse with the food, ingredients good quality but not well cooked, not well prepared or presented and just thrown at you. Starter (squid) was stone cold and very very salty, came on a bed of ordinary chopped lettuce. Main was hake and the side salad was again just chopped lettuce. Sides are either chips chips chips or …. Lettuce
No vegetables nor potatoes
Just creamy champ blended like paste

What a team at the Quays, we had a large group from England visiting and took them for a meal and everyone loved their food. Service was brilliant and everyone was made so welcome. The group went back for more over the next few days. Thanks for all your hospitality ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

First time in the Quays for a meal and it was delicious. We arrived around 5pm and it was completely booked up as it was a Saturday night but the manager fitted us in. Food was delicious. My husband had squid to start with and I had goats cheese bruchetta. Both were very tasty. Then he had daube of beef while i had beef pappardelle and again so tasty. The bill for 2 courses each plus 2 pints of Guinness and 2 large glasses of red wine was £66! Very reasonable price in today's climate. The staff were very efficient and pleasant too. We will definitely be back.

Heard so many good reviews about Quays gastro bar in portrush so called in on a Friday around 7.00pm. It was quite busy with holiday families however we had a short wait in the beer garden which was very pleasant and had a beer during our wait for restaurant.
The restaurant itself was in contrast to the beer garden was very dark in fact the walls were painted black and ambiance not great for a dining experience (we would have been happy sitting in the enclosed section of the beer garden)
The meal itself was fair to poor, my rump steak texture was not like it should be I had the feeling it was put through some sort of tenderising process and not great like a good steak freshly cooked should be, garlic fries were just ok.
My wife chicken strips coated in breadcrumbs the coating so salty she could not eat them, I am more salt tolerant but they were so salty I could not eat them either.
We are not people who complain and the staff were very pleasant and I did leave a tip.
So Quays I have to say huge disappointment and will not return.

Well presented bar and nice surroundings. Didn't eat just Called for drinks however service was somewhat disorganised. Waited to order drinks while one bartender was serving, two were emptying the dishwasher and chatting and one tall blonde female was eating her dinner from a bowl behind the bar. Nice pub but urgently requires a manager.

What an awful experience! Have loved the quays for many years, but this new beer garden is just not working out for them, arrived @12pm asked immediately if we could have a high chair, to which a waitress said ‘yes no problem I’ll get it now’ come 12.30 no high chair so we ask again, by the time we were leaving @1.30 we still had not received the high chair.. staff were VERY dismissive, inattentive and from personal experience pretty incompetent. All staff seemed new and getting trained up so i don’t know if you can really blame them, but somebody should really be around who knows what they are doing.
Anyway, this wasn’t the worst, our whole party (7 in total) had gotten their meals @12.25, very speedy service yeah? By the time they were finished eating myself and my partner still had not received our food, maybe it was my fault for ordering only sides?? Due to the vegetarian options being very unappealing. We asked where our food was was @12.45 a girl kindly said she would go to the kitchen to see what was happening, @1.15pm she approached again to let us know she was sorting it, half an hour later??? 1.30pm came around still no food, so we had to let them know we at this point didn’t even want it, we were freezing cold.
EXTREMELY poorly managed and a complete shambles, would highly recommend only going for a pint, do not expect to actually get served food if you do go to this joke of an establishment.
