We are a friendly family run business 5 star awarded home cooking cafe and a superb 5 star awarded chip shop ,extensive hearty meals for all budgets , from massive challenging breakfasts for the brave to delicate baguettes and salads. Plenty of space and seating for wheelchair users. Well worth a visit

poor sunday lunch

been using this café for years . always good food but recently it has gone down hill. todays sunday lunch was awful . the veg had been put on the plate and then heated in the microwave. there is nothing good I can write about it. Ive given it 3star as my husband had curry and he said it was ok. Will not be going there for Sunday lunch again. Very diasapointed

great fish and chips

Been here during lockdown when they served in the car. Great service in June. excellent fish n chips. Came here last week. Food was excellent and good efficient service. Not given 5 star because waiting area could do with a little tlc but it was clean However I will definately call again for their fish and chips, reasonable price too.

Visited this Cafe on several occasions and the food has always been exceptional, however I went today with 3 of my friends and the food was diabolical. The four of us had different meals, after waiting 15mins for cutlery our meal was stone cold, when the cutlery finally arrived and we started to eat our meals we were told to stop eating and pay the bill. The Gammon you could have put on the sole of your shoe, there were 5 pieces of scampi with no side salad or peas just a few chips. The sausage was over cooked, the chips were hard. When complained were told to come back next time (which won’t be happening!!!) all the regular staff have gone, new staff aren’t fully qualified for the job shouldn’t be working there at all! VERY DISAPPOINTED!! Never again!

Visited the cafe with family at lunch time and disappointed in the service. Covid can not be blamed for the poor service. Ordered a pensioners meal and had a main meal presented and charged for. Order 2 sandwiches. Menu stated with side salad. No side salad on plate. Got to check bill with staff, regarding pensioners meal was told that I didn't say pensioners meal. I said that I pointed to the menu which had pensioners meal above the item ordered and the reply was you should have said pensioners meal. Regarding side salad answer was that I should have said that I wanted side salad even if listed on menu. I did get the refund in the price between standard meal and the pensioners meal after some discussion but nothing for no side salad If you visit all I can say is ensure you tell the staff every word that is on the menu I have been visiting the cafe for years with no issue but this was the first visit following the lockdown the country has been in and very disappointed overall. Also ensure you have a face mask as there is a sign outside stating No Face Mask No Entry regardless of being exempt

Don’t waste your money!

About a year ago, after recently moving here, The takeaway food was always hot and food was always freshly cooked. Mostly while we waited. Having tried on numerous occasions recently, the chips are cold and soggy. battered sausage I had last week, which had been reheated and was burnt inside and was rattling in the batter!! Having tried to give them the benefit of the doubt on numerous occasions, time and again, the food is awful. Something has changed here drastically. We will not be wasting anymore of our money. Poor show!!!

We love the food at Hagans and come here a lot. Today was busy as usual. Young blonde waitress came to take order and half way through we assume her boss shouted the length of the cafe for her to get here now she tried to tell her she was taking our order but she had to leave us. We then heard the boss shout that she’d left food going cold. But. We’d just seen a young man take the food to another table.he told thrm what he had. 2 large breakfast one with mushroom he delivered one and took the other back. When our waitress delivered them again she said medium breakfast and they were accepted . Guess the man didn’t know what they were but we felt sooooo bad for our waitress being embarrassed like that for something that wasn’t her fault. We won’t be coming back. The staff are generally good but how they can work for a boss like that I don’t know

Service in this establishment is terrible. It gets a fat zero from me. After waiting for our order to be taken for 15 minutes and being totally blanked by the serving staff we left to find another place to eat. If our presence had even been acknowledged it would have helped, perhaps we were in a different reality and invisible in this world.

Firstly, always love the food here. So why the terrible review you might ask? Well, having checked GOV.UK for which nearby restaurants were taking part in the eat out to help out scheme we were delighted to see that Hagans were taking part so went down (Tuesday 4th August). Ordered food and when it came to pay we were told they knew nothing about the scheme and it would be full price. We told them they were registered on GOV.UK for it but still said they weren’t taking part in the scheme and it was still full price. Very disappointed with the establishment for this. Wonder if they are still going to claim back from the government. Be warned don’t go if you’re expecting the 50% off!

Worst chips I’ve ever had, brown and fatty… fish was ok but not best I’ve tasted, was recommended to go to Hagans but will be last and only visit: did complain and the young man was very apologetic… gave refund of £4 between us … we we were only able to eat and be or two chips. I also felt meal was overpriced.. small fish and chips plus a coffee and coke near£20!

This apparently is a large portion of chips. It's not enough for my 10 year old. Also half of the chips were still raw in the centre. This used to be an ok place for a chippy tea but I'll never go back again. The portions have reduced by at least 2/3 and the quality is now very poor. Extremely disappointed and angry at the cost we paid for hardly any food at all. Don't bother. Find somewhere with normal adult size portions.

I’ve been a very loyal customer here for many years but on my last visit I could not believe the attitude of a staff member when I questioned the cost of my meal. It was tomatoes on 2 toast 2 sausage and black pudding with tea. This is something I had on a regular basis and was always charged around £4.50 but on this visit I was charged £9. I had already just paid by card as I couldn’t hear her with all the background noise but I double checked and she said £9 I said that can’t be right as it has never costed that much but was told it’s the new rules and that’s it and walked off. I went home and messaged them on Facebook to try and get an answer but got this response. I'm sorry you feel that way, the price has always been on the menu and the owner sets the prices. The staff have been told to adhere to new rules to ensure that customers are correctly charged for their order. As you can appreciate costs have gone up considerably and we need to ensure consistency in the charges as on the menu. I hope this gives you an insight as to why this has happened. Thanks Hagan's I totally understand about price rises but doubled??? I don’t think so! I can’t believe I felt so upset and angry about this that I had to write a review. I have always praised them in the past but this is such a letdown . Please see photo and judge for yourself.

We have visited on several occasions for a Sunday lunch which is reasonably priced and plentiful. So we had no qualms in visiting today (Thursday) for lunch. At 66 years old and pre-diabetic my appetite isn’t huge and I ordered a pensioners sausage and mash, not badly priced, or so I thought, at £6.50. However, when my lunch arrived I was very disappointed to see that I had been served what amounted to be a plateful of dry (difficult to swallow and presumed to be powdered) mashed potato with one very small sausage to the side. I waited for gravy to arrive, when it didn’t, I asked if I was going to get any. I was told that, dependant upon the amount I wanted, it would cost an additional £1.50 or £2.20! So, if you fancy a plateful of horrible, very dry mashed potato, that leaves a nasty aftertaste, together with a very small sausage with not a drop of gravy or a pea in sight-I highly recommend this place

Service is excellent with everything freshly prepared and cooked Food is of an exceptional standard and very competitively priced. Called on a number of occasions with my mother, wife and grandchildren and never been disappointed

Best fish and chips I've had for ages

This place was recommended by the hotel I was staying in. It's tucked away on a side street about 5 mins from the railway station. Doesn't look much from the outside and the inside's not much better, but oh my, the food is something else. Plenty of choice - chicken nuggets, 3 sizes of fish, homemade rissoles (which looked good) etc. I ordered medium fish (cod), large chips, large peas and large curry sauce, which came to approx £14. The fish was freshly cooked to order. Initially I was only given reg chips but the gentleman serving called me back and gave me the extra to make it up to a large portion. He didn't have to do this as I wouldn't have known the difference and couldn't even finish the reg portion as it turns out. Anyway the fish was crispy and delicious. The chips and peas were tasty and everything was non-greasy. The curry was flavoursome, and not too spicy. I eat F&C at least once a week and this was the best I've had in the last 2 years or so, just a shame it's so far from where I live in the North West
