Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stopped in here on a whim on a Sunday morning. I think we narrowly missed the rush from the church next door as there were a lot of tables reserved for 11am onwards (we arrived 10.30am). The staff were very friendly and cleared a...table for us quickly. They have a great menu and really nice looking cabinet food. My partner ordered the avocado smash (which he really liked). I had the hash brown stack and it was nice but a little over-seasoned (salty, but not so much that I couldn't eat it. I think at least three components were seasoned and when combined it was a little too salty). I saw some of their other meals coming out and they looked good but you could see there is some room for improvement with the food. They could elevate just a little with plating etc and this cafe could be really decent. It's a large space with lots of tables. Good coffee too.More

Great food, staff and atmosphere. I reserved a table as we were a group of 20 people. Definitely recommend and we'll be going again.

My partner and I were staying near the cafe on holiday and were recommended to go to this cafe due to my allergies (gluten and dairy-free). I cannot recommend this place enough. The food was so good and the staff were lovely.

Thought this would ne a nice place for my family to have brunch/lunch bit omg, the prices ! Who do they think they are? $26.00 for corn fritters lol we didn't bother eating here, it's a joke. I paid nearly $7 for a small bottle...of juice. Could this be why hospitality in NZ is f--ked? Places like this make it soMore

Used to love stopping here for coffee especially when you had the caravan. Called in today for brunch and nearly DIED at the price of your food. $18.00 for a panini and then $27.00 for corn fritters plus a 15%surcharge most places don't bother with...a surcharge due to the amount of people that will show up, even so with your ridiculous prices adding 15% is extortion. Will be looking for a new place to stop when passing .More

Wow! Amazing selection and great food! Large servings and reasonable prices. I have coeliacs, so am gluten free - was no problem as they had loads of GF options including a large array of sweet treats (all stored on top shelf to avoid contamination) and...mainstream menu items were available in GF options. Super friendly staff and even though it was really busy, service was slick! Would definitely visit again.More

Great food but service was terrible. Got food and coffee but no cutlery. waitress delivered or food and just stared at us and walked away. No cutlery, no napkins, no water, no salt and pepper. Had to get all this ourselves. Sat outside. Ruined the...whole thing really.More

Very busy, fortunate to get a table. Very fresh food, service was very good - and seemed very reasonable given how busy they were. Excellent quality food, nice hot coffee. Quite dear.

Not your typical cafe, easy to miss, didnt realise it was the Church building. Parking at the rear. Tables & chairs outside, probably good in the summer. Passed 2 separate dining rooms at the entrance. Big high ceiling, eye catching stained glass window behind the...large menu board. Lots of staff, friendly, great service, clean (incl bathrms), good atmosphere, family & couple friendly, lots of customers came in ordering coffee to go. Biggest table I saw could seat 8, but they had alot of smaller tables as well with sturdy chairs! Hubby dislikes cafes with weak chairs. Ordered the Pancake with bacon n banana (1 of 3 choices) & H ordered the 'Big Fig' 😂 with long black & mocca. LB came in a tulip cup so was happy (FYI - didn't come with additional side hot water, didnt bother me) H thought Mocca was fab. Coffee service was quick. Food took abit longer. Pancake was fluffy, medium sized, bacon was great, extra crispy as requested. (FYI - only 1 pancake as per menu, not a stack) H said Big Fig presented & tasted good, but could have done with more eggs as he had 2 pieces of toast & only enough egg for 1.More

My wife, daughter and I popped in for a late lunch (about 2:30 pm), but were told we could only get cabinet food. Seems at odds with their advertised times, but we decided to stay. The food was definitely worth it, but looking at the...menu convinced us we need to go back when the menu items are available, as they looked very interesting. The building is an ex church, so it felt spacious and airy. There is outside seating which must be awesome when the weather is warm enough.More

We loved the spacious atmosphere, thanks to the cafe being in an ex church building. We ordered cabinet food as we arrived just after the kitchen had closed. Pretty standard fare except the carrot cake which was exceptional. We’ll definitely be back to try the...food on the all day menu as it looked very tasty. Staff were pleasant and helpful, place was spotlessly clean and had outdoor area with tables as well.More

Nice atmosphere, good service but little over priced and a bit sparing. The louise cake mustve came from fridge over night tasted like it. Scone however was really nice.

We biked for an hour on a Saturday morning to enjoy breakfast at Fig Tree. Positive number one - not far off the Hutt Cycle Trail. At just after 9am, all the outdoor tables at the front were taken, but there were several indoors in...the large, open, high-ceiling interior of the former church. Quite a few tables had notices on them advising that they had been reserved for a group at a particular time (mental note: this is a place where you can book a table if you want to meet a few friends here). Positive number two: they have granola on the menu! I almost feel like this should be two positives - firstly, they offer a healthy option like this, and secondly, it is a stunning granola. You would be hard-pressed to find better (and if you read my other reviews, you will see that we look out for and try granola all around the world). The coffee was also good(positive number three) - maybe could have been a little warmer, so could ask for a pre-warmed hot cup next time. Spacious, good for conversation, toilets, fantastic looking options in the cabinet. We loved finding a newspaper to browse - whether the cafe buys in a copy or two, or whether it was left by the previous people at the table, we couldn’t tell, but we really appreciated it. Not our first visit, and won’t be our last.More

The staff are good and the place is always busy, but they still get food out quick. Coffee can be hit and miss. But menu and cabinet food are great.
