Must be 10 years since I was last at Mateos - the menu is now more Italian, more traditional but still contemporary and very good . Service was outstanding especially from their locum sommelier. Famous for offering BYO we took full advantage and had great wines which were lovingly cared for and served . All the food was good , my scallops with belly pork were made for the Pinot and the eye fillet was sensational

My family of 8 enjoyed a wonderful dinner on Friday night with the usual efficient and friendly service , assisted by the excellent , well priced wine list . Everyone enjoyed their selected entrees and mains with the perfectly cooked Patagonian Toothfish being a standout . The desserts were beautifully presented and delicious !

Dear Matteo and staff. We had a 70th birthday celebration at your restaurant on Thursday Jan 19th. We are not frequent customers but regular ones. Choosing Matteo's for celebrating our friends birthday was easy. Over the years, Matteo's has continued to provide an excellence of dinning and hospitality experience which we enjoy. Thank you again for a wonderful combination of professionalism, hospitality and high quality food. I asked for guidance on a wine choice as I enjoy using the skills and knowledge of the sommelier in this way and it has always paid off at Matteo's. Our wine from the slopes of Mt Etna was perfect. Thank you to all involved. Steve and Kathleen

Last time we visited the menu was French with Asian influences. Menu is now nominally Italian but with strong French influence. Food read better on the menu than executed on the plate...again.. Came across, in the end as heavy, old fashioned and graceless. The Vitello was a muddy mess, the deep-fried Zucchini flower entree failed to cohere as a dish -though the individual elements were all good. The Mushroom& Comte pithivier likewise flat and dull and a chore to finish. Dry and stodgy side of chips didn't help. My Western Plains pork belly ‘porchetta’| eggplant caponata | rillettes croquette the most successful of the dishes on the day but let down by under seasoned pork and almost inedible, under cooked and stringy veg. A la Carte Menu overall struck us as overly heavy for the time of year, not helped by the set 2/3 course format, forcing a choice of entree and main where l would have preferred to mix and match say; three entrees.... Gets us to the pricing. Asking 2 courses $75–3 courses$98 plus $10 per side needed to get a starch and/or greens on the plate is right up there. High end pricing needs precise, well executed food to match- a clear fail. It's a lovely room, the service was adequate, the wine list fairly priced, but note that BYO is now $30. Bottom line though, for the not inconsiderable price, there are better options out there.

Disappointed. Maybe I ordered the wrong dish but I was disappoint with the depth of flavour and thought to my veal dish. Something I could of made at home. Service was also quite poor, we had to regularly request our glasses of wine to be topped up as we brought our own bottle and also had sides forgotten witch did not come out as we canceled them. Dessert looked really nice and tasted fantastic witch was a good note to finish but not enough to get me back anytime soon.

We returned for another visit to this great restaurant, having been many times especially for birthdays & with foreign guests ( that is of course pre COVID !) This time we had the usual great culinary offering & friendly, professional service. The downside ? The website continues to offer corkage for BYO at $20, but we were charged $30. The explanation ? “It’s been increased recently “. We would expect that published prices to the marketplace should be current & accurate. This one let the side down somewhat, but still has us offering a full 5 points as overall rating.

For a moment I thought l was back dining in 1988! Overstuffed, stiff and formal and the food was average at best. Clearly popular with the (advanced) white collar set, Matteo's appears to be a restaurant to be seen in rather than enjoy the experience. Ravioli was chewy and the sauce, heavy. Main's fish was over cooked. The bombe for dessert was OK but visually was underwhelming (white bombe in a white bowl ). Not an enjoyable evening and overpriced but if your still humming "Simply irresistible" by Robert Palmer then maybe this is the restaurant for you.

We ate there recently, , the place was packed and buzzing and the food superb. I noticed that all of our party, having finished their food, used bread to sop up any extra flavours . It really is first rate and with a wine list as good as one finds anywhere , up including a large number by the glass

So great to be back at Matteo’s for lunch today. If anything the food is better than before lockdown. Chef Rhys has taken it up a notch or two. Preparation, plating, presentation all superb. Great ideas deliciously delivered. We were fortunate enough to be able to bring some sensational and rare wines to enjoy with our food (BYO welcome,$30 corkage per bottle). Excellent glassware and attentive service. Staff were as usual polite and professional. Matteo was at his best - consummate host. Can’t wait fir next time.

High end food at affordable price. Chose the chef tasting menu being first time here. Love the service level even at full house capacity night. Very memorable food that I tried tonight: kingfish crudo with citrus cured scallops and added anchovies pangrattata. The snacks was really tasty with lots of combination of raw and fried! Love the prawn sandwich and ocean trout cigar. I enjoyed the mains is the rabbit bolognese with handmade pasta ! Lots of cheese and made it rich, pairing with the Chianti made perfect. The highlight is the duck breast, the far best I have ever eaten ! The meat is so tender and flavorful! Pairing with Pinot noir goes so well. The dessert is uniquely made Yuzu Gelato.. lovely and will come back again! Do book earlier as the restaurant is really packed. The parking is easily find and available nearby.

Impressed with this private function, canapes were superb including eggplant cigars, prawn sandwich and arancini. For entree kingfish and main cauliflower were great. Mixed dessert was on point. Great service from Charles. Special to have your own wines.

$80 a head for a 2 course meal. For the main, some at our table ordered the steak, others the barramundi. Superbly cooked. The vegetarians ordered the only available dish, a baked half head of cauliflower with a swipe of sauce to pretty the plate. WTAF? How goes that even compare? The chef is either lazy or hates vegetarians. Either way, I don’t recommend you bring your vego friends and family here. Or at least the one’s that you like.

Excellent service and delicious food that is reminiscent of a master painting. The choice for vegetarian was good. I had the lovely zucchini flowers for entree and mushroom & comte pithivier for main with a side salad. There are a good selection of wine and cocktails to complete the experience. They have staggered times for dining and we never felt rushed. Very friendly waiters.

We so looked forward to celebrating our anniversay dinner but walked out after the initial cold, unwelcome attitude. Won't be missing this place when they go out of business. They did nto ask for drinks order nor make an attempt to serve the table well. We ended up not eating there and glad to have walked out. Terrible experience.
