Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Over-priced, poor quality and taste. My friend ordered three dishes - combination fried rice, crispy chicken and salt/spicy squid. Was firstly staggered at the cost - $95.50 for three standard dishes, and secondly very disappointed with quality. The chicken was dry and came bizarrely with...sweet chilli sauce, the squid was hard, dry, over-cooked and tasteless, and the fried rice had a total of two prawns, a couple of tiny halves of a scallop, a few bits of gristly meat and globs of white rice stuck together. I’ve dined in and had takeaways from Try It Out on many previous occasions and been satisfied at worst, but this was very disappointing both in terms of food quality and over-pricing.More

LOVE this restaurant. We've just come back from our second 4pm (I know...) dinner in a row at Try It Out and it did not disappoint. The Banh Mi is not to be missed! Crunchy, creamy, salty with fresh pickled vegetables- it is the kind...of sandwich I'll think about for days to come. The rare beef pho is perfect, the meat a particular highlight along with the fact that the noodles have clearly just been placed in the broth. This restaurant is family run and it's very clear they take a lot of pride in what they do- definitely a new favourite we'll be taking friends and family back to.More

We stopped here for dinner before heading off for a road trip. I had been to the one in East Tamaki so I was hoping this one would be similar in quality. The menus looked identical. The coconut milkshake was delicious. Coconutty with sweetness from...condensed milk. I then had the curry tofu with vegetables and that was really nice too. Crispy tofu and vegetables in a creamy, almost satay like curry sauce. It was one of the places where everyone eats when the food comes and the table becomes quiet. They did have quite a few parking spots outside the restaurant but there is also street parking if they are full. We came quite early so it was easy to get parking and a table. The parking was full when we left.More

Great lunch time meal. We had the beef Pho and traditional Bahn Mi. Both dishes were just how we remembered them tasting on our recent trip to Vietnam. Great prices too.

We have recently visited Vietnam and "Try it Out" is the real deal! In fact, it's better than the food in Vietnam!. I started with some absolutely delicious Vietnames Summer Rolls. They were packed with BBQ Pork, shrimp, vermicelli and veges , accompanied by a...delicious peanut choli dipping suce. Hubby had the Pho and pronounced it "as good as the Pho in Hoi An- beef strips in a divine, slightly spicy broth. Heaven! I had the Lemongrass Beef on Vermicelli, with fresh mint, carrots, viet mint, peanuts and cucumber and a side sweet chili dipping sauce. This was washed down with a icy cold Saigon lager! My idea of the perfect unday lunch! Service was quick and efficent. Everything is spotlessly clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back for more on our next trip to Auckland.More

this is only my personal view, but they could do better. we had booked, but they didnt have a table ready for 8 people. they are obviously set up for bus groups, as a large group came in, filled three large tables, were fed and...gone again before we had got ours. the meal i had was lemongrass chicken on rice. ok a generous serve of steamed rice, but the chicken was dry, and very little hint of lemongrass. others seemed to enjoy what they ordered but i was disappointed with mine. then dessert. hmm, the picture of a creme caramel on a plate looked tempting so myself and one other ordered it. it came in a plastic pot with a plastic spoon. i hadnt ordered it to takeaway. it was plonked (one on top of the other) onto the table. when we peeled off the lids, the caramel?? was black. i dipped my spoon into it and it was burnt. tasted foul. i told the waiter and they went and got the owner/chef??. who told me that was the way it was made and meant to be. i said i would not be eating or paying for it, which she accepted. it certainly left me with a bad taste in my mouth.More

So I first visited Try It Out for lunch and had a fantastic experience. Then about a week later I visited for dinner. I ordered the same food both visits. First visit (lunch) the food was fantastic. Second visit (dinner) the food was just average....I figure different chefs were on. At the lunch visit the tofu curry was packed full of a large variety (at least 6 sorts) of crispy vegetables (as well as tofu). It was a meal by itself and I didnt need the rice. At the dinner visit the tofu curry had a lot of sauce and not a great deal of substance. So my assessment of both quality and value for money changed. Trip Advisor did not allow me to post another review within the month but my disappointment lasted such that I felt compelled to write this review as soon as Trip Advisor would permit me.More

After finding our fav Malaysian in Panmure had closed we tried "Try it Out". So glad we did. Not a lot of atmosphere here but nice staff and plenty of parking and the food was excellent. Not a large vegetarian / vegan selection but the...tofu curry more than made up for the lack of choice. Soft springy pieces of tofu and heaps of crunchy vegetables (onion, carrot, bean, mushroom, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers maybe more) in a delicious spicy curry sauce. No need for carbs. Huge portion. Very filling. And I had the vegetarian summer rolls - also very tasty with a nice but mild sauce. Chili on the table if you wanted added spice. And the green tea was excellent too! Can't fault the food. Not sure what the tea cost but the tofu curry was $19.50 for a good sized bowl and the summer rolls were $6.50 for two large rolls and sauce. I will be returning!More

Spent New Years dinner here. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was enjoyable. Can never go wrong with spring rolls! Bit pricy though, 2 spring rolls for $6. Also ordered the lemon chicken on rice which was nice. They’re a tad pricier than other...Vietnamese restaurants in the surrounding area but service and food was good so no real complaints. Would eat here again.More

If I hadn't gone out of my way to come here because it made the Metro top 50 cheap eats list, I'd have said this was a fine little vietnamese restaurant. But I was expecting more, and I don't know what the Metro team was...smoking, but I'm guessing none of them have ever actually crossed over into South Auckland to actually try this place out. It's fine but not amazing. Have totally lost faith in Metro's system! For try it out - great service, authentic feel.More

Nice and cozy environment, so many customers. Well designed menu, many choices. We ordered 越南肠粉,粿条,鲜炸鱿鱼. 粿条 is a different thing with vermicelli, a translate mistake I guess. The taste is good, but could be better.
