A friend organized a truffle hunting with the owner of this place. Not only we had a great time with him and his fantastic dog, who went on to find 7 nice truffles in about an hour, but went back and ate lunch at the simple family restaurant. I was not expecting anything special at all as I knew nothing about this. Well, we had the most outstanding , traditional simplest home made food I ever had, perhaps including Osteria Setteponti, in San Giovanni Valdarno, in Tuscany. Now this food is real. Nothing fancy but the absolute best in class. We were floored. How can an unrecognizable place from the outside provide such a joy? Well done! I will be back. Thank you.

We, two couples were staying in the hotel Antico Borgo Monchiero and were looking for a nice place for dinner. The Tra Arte e Querce is right around the corner and was a 3 minute walk. My wife and I shared insalata sedano parmigiano e tartufo nero and maltagliati con peperoni e nocciole. A very delicious but simple dish ... white square paste with peppers in a cream sauce topped with ground hazelnuts. We then shared uovo in camicia con fonduta and bocconcini di capriolo alla montanara. The venison was very tender in a lovely tomato sauce. We shared two bottles of Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio Scudetto Barbera d'Alba Superiore. We shared a chocolate Budino, I had an espresso and a digestive.

One of the best places to eat truffles in Piemonte. Good Barolo and attention made it all complete. This is heaven on earth! Eggs with truffles is my favorite but also tajarin.

Anything with truffles (chargeable of cos!), it is just so heavenly. Again, the hosts were wonderful. Since we stayed there, we had both breakfast and dinner. Menu is simple yet fresh and delicious.

Ezio and his family will make everything to make you feel at home. The menu choices are limited, but everything is so genuine, authentic and well prepared that you will enjoy every moment of your meal and every drop of your wine. That’s why we come here regularly, winter and summer, and never leave disappointed! It’s a feel-good-evening!

In my next life I want to be a truffle hunter. I just returned from Piedmont where I took care of number one on my bucket list by going on a white truffle hunt. Arranged by a friend who lives in LA but hails from Piedmont, she booked my truffle hunt with Ezio at Tra Arte E Querce, with whom she is friends. Ezio doesn't speak English and I don't speak Italian, so he sent me out with his 30+ year old son whose name I did not get but who speaks good English and had been truffle hunting since he was 9 or 10. We were accompanied by Lola, a 5 year old mixed breed white truffle hunting dog. We hiked with our walking sticks down to the wet truffle forest behind the farm house, and Lola did her stuff. Each time she excitedly pawed the ground we found truffles. After a couple of hours we had 5 white truffles (including 2 very good sized) and 4 black truffles. Lola was spot on each time she pawed. The truffle hunting requires patience and sensitivity. Truffle hunters are artist/surgeons. They carefully dig where the dogs point, using a small tool if needed to break the earth and mostly their hands. They dig, smell the mud for truffle traces, then dig more mostly with their fingers, repeating this process until the truffle is exposed, and then they extract it. It is a very careful process and triumphant when the truffle comes out whole and pungent. I mostly watched but did get to bring one out of its mud crib and into the light. The extracted truffles are carefully placed into a bag. After a couple of hours we were done--Lola was out of digging spots. We hiked happily back to the farm house, said our goodbyes. I went into Ezio's trattoria for lunch. I was served the customary local Barolo and antipasti, then ordered Tajarin con Tartufo Bianco, thin white egg pasta and white truffles. Ezio shaved a mass of white truffles and I pigged out, eating the truffle shavings with my fingers. The energy of this dining room was warm and friendly. At the next table is a group from France and at another table a Swiss couple. Ezio and staff treated each of us as family. At last I was sated and took my leave. Grazie Mille Ezio for an amazing experience:-) This is a total experience not to be missed:-)

We had a wonderful experience truffle hunting with Ezio and his dog Leo. His wife translated for us as well. The restaurant serves extremely well made local dishes and wines. Delicious!

In the heart of Langhe Monchiero, close to the more famous and crowded Barolo, just fifteen minutes away. A castle transformed in a hotel around the corner, a Basilica a church a little park, nothing more really. The hotel is average, clean rooms but expect no luxury, you are not paying for it either around 120€ per room... The food and the wine cellar just superb. You like white truffles? They have them, from their own grounds found by their dogs, couldn't be fresher! They can arrange for you a tour in the morning with one of the three sons of the owner and one of their five trained dogs to search for the "trifule" as they are called here. The price this year around 4.000€ per Kg. Quality excellent. You can order their truffle menu for dinner, in the small dining room with a view. Price 95€ per person worth every penny, would cost you the 50% more at least in other places. Tartar with truffles, tajarin with truffles, cheese fondue with an egg and truffles and a dessert. They have many wines but try their own Nebbiolo at bargain price, superb. A friendly a knowledgeable family runs the place. Don't miss it but book well in advance

We arrived out of curiosity at this restraurant, having read all the other opinions here. I can only confirm what has been written before: very nice staff, great authentic food, lovely location (cosy, familiar) and not to expensive. If you are nearby, Montchiero Alto is a to do, certainly for this restaurant!

We were sent to the location by the wonderful Vajra Barolo tasting room (also highly recommended). We showed up after the main truffle season had ended, and found the place wide open. The smell of truffles hits you the moment you walk in the room, of course. The proprietor and his wife are warmly greeting guests and the chef also gets involved. But truffles are what this is all about, right? Turns out the crop was fantastic this year, and the season lasted longer than usual. So not only were the truffle-tasting crowds gone, but they kindly left the best truffles for us! We opened with bacon-wrapped goat cheese topped with truffles, then each of us had a simple pasta dish with the 20 Euro truffle supplement. We just went with the house wine, which is a barbera, and it was great, 12 Euro, and I wouldn't advise the Barolo unless you're a big spender, as they are a bit pricey at 50 Euros and up. That was our lunch, and boy howdy it was incredible! The best truffles by far that I have ever had. Just like a good novel, I didn't want the meal to end, and every bite made me pause and say "mmmmm" in delight. The food is to die for. More on the truffles. First of all, if you’re not a fan, don’t bother going here. The point of flying across the atlantic (or the channel), renting a car, booking a hotel, driving out into the countryside, braving drizzly November grey, getting your phrasebook on, and emptying your wallet, is to experience this food nirvana that is unavailable anywhere else on earth except maybe Istria. If you’re wishy washy about truffles, please leave them for the rest of us and eat at a good Italian place downtown. May I recommend Olive Garden? I hear they offer unlimited breadsticks these days. And this place in particular is very very generous with the truffles. We also ate at a restaurant in downtown Alba (La Piola) that was serving truffles, and while it was very very good, it was a modern, citified place that was cranking out the meals and serving tourists like wildfire. Tra Arte E Querce is a rarefied experience, a mix of outstanding food, country atmosphere, personal service, and relaxation you’re not going to find in the city. And you get more truffles. Like, 5 times as much. La Piola charged 4 Euros per gram for theirs, which is a fair price given their location right on the Piazza Duomo. The proprietor of Tra Arte E Querce said “I’m serving you a really nice portion,” as he shaved off slices of truffle until the pasta underneath was entirely obscured. And then he shaved off a few more. I estimate there were 20 grams on each of our plates; he used up an entire medium sized truffle for our table. So his prices are about ¼ that of La Piola. Bottom line: if you are a truffle lover, do not miss this singular experience. If you are not, have pizza downtown.

Is located in a very tiny village, in a dead-end road with a nice view of the local landscape (Langhe). The restaurant is small, elegant, perfect for small groups, intimate. There are some photos taken with some celebs who had visited and ate at this place (GĂ©rard Depardieu just to mention one) The cooking is simple, completely homemade cooking. When we arrived at 16:30, Mrs. was already in the kitchen. For dinner we had goatcheese wrapped with bacon and truffles; sliced veal covered with oil and lemon instead of the classic creamy mayonnaise tuna sauce; some homemade pasta dishes, rabbit and a steak tartare. Dishes were delicious, well done, presentation as wrote before is very simple as homemade cooking so don't expect artistic edible presentations from high class restaurants. Is possible to have extra truffle shaves; for each dish, added white truffle shavings costs 20.00 euros plus the dish price... Still need to learn to appreciate more these white truffles who are said to be finer than the black ones; last ones have a slightly spicy aftertaste. We matched our meals with a bottle of Barolo (oh c'mon having dishes with truffles without a bottle of Barolo!) cheapest bottle starts from 50.00 euros... I was jaw-dropping internally when noticed that our epicurean neighbors table had a 400.00 something euros bottle, wow... Many people might complain about the prices, but consider that you'll be served with local truffles found by an experienced hunter, all local products no imports... truffles are not cheap, especially the ones from this area are very high esteemed by world gourmet connoisseurs. Notwithstanding the high prices (we didn't even spent that amount of money in a Michelin starred restaurant) still is a nice place to go, to learn about truffles and be pampered by the owners. P.S. Reservations are mandatory, is not open for walk-in clients.

We just went to Tra Arte e Querce this past weekend. We were at a vineyard near Barolo doing a tasting and asked the owner for a restaurant recommendation, he suggested Tra Arte e querce and called to see if they had any space... not only did they say they would fit us in, but they even agreed to open a half hour early for us! The service was very personal and warm and the food was delicious. We ordered one of everything and it was all excellent Italian home cooking. The restaurant was packed with big Italian families by the time we left. We will definitely go back!
