5315 Definitely A Great Dinner Choice

Kitchen 5315 Restaurant & Tiki Bar did not disappoint in fact it was excellent. The appetizers of coconut shrimp and calamari were spot on, and our entrées, which included three orders of macadamia encrusted, mahi-mahi, and one stir fry entrée left us craving to return! They have an updated indoor tiki bar right off the restaurant which we will indulge in on our next not to distant future visit! If you’re looking for very good food and not a tourist trap this is your spot!

Breakfast Review - Awkward

This restaurant experience was odd, it felt like we were not welcomed. It was similar to a previous review. Granted, the eating experience in Maui is diverse and the operational actions against COVID are all over the map. However, for a restaurant that had 1 table occupied when we arrived, you would of thought decent to average attitudes would be given. I am not asking for a red carpet, however I do like to have someone at least pretending to be happy to see you and welcoming. This was not it. We had to present the vaccine card for entry. The food was decent and good. I can't say it blew me away overall as I was a bit cheesed with the attitude as mentioned above and the lack of coffee. They have these small 6 to 8 oz coffee cups where they don't give you a carafes of coffee for self service. Some of us that order coffee for breakfast, need the octane to wake up. I just can't really recommend it. I am sure the dinner service is great, but for breakfast I won't be coming back. We had the pancakes, loco moco and something else I can't remember. Total cost of bill was around 70 dollars.

Convenient and Tasty

Cute little bar. We went a few times for happy hour (3-5pm). The drinks were tasty the bar tender, Jesus was very friendly and attentive. They have some appetizers that were very tasty and the cost was a bit less than Happy Hour at Sea House. Not too mention it is on the property Naplil Shores where we stayed.

Horrible takeaway service

We ordered takeaway through their online portal, which was never fulfilled despite being charged for it. We had to call to have our order fulfilled (despite paying for it online). We had to call the restaurant three times to get through to someone. We had ordered a poke bowl with an additional side of fries, plus a starter. They forgot to include our additional fries with the order, so we tried calling them five times but no one answered. So, I requested online to have a refund for the fries ($5) and they refused to refund me. Very disappointing, horrible service.

Worst ever

Started with a bottle of room temp highly chlorinated water. Two opposing kinds of music playing for no discernible reason but both loud. Fish tacos (how can you ruin fish tacos) were overcooked fish and bland filler. Fish sandwich was the same. Go at your own risk.

We should have left like table near us

We were here three years ago and had a decent meal. This restaurant has gone way downhill since then. My husband had to go to the kitchen entrance to get someone to seat us, because while we were seen, no hostess or waiter ever came over even after standing there for 15 minutes past our reservation. It was hot in restaurant with no AC. We were given one jar of water for our table of five, which didn’t even fill 4 small glasses halfway. Our waiter actually did a good job, but the section next to us seemed a mess with food being brought to 3 wrong tables and table behind us just got fed up and left before ever getting food. We didn’t order cocktails, as we saw two getting sent back. Bottled beverages were probably a safer choice. We ordered calamari and it seemed like the frozen Costco kind just warmed up. We ordered the chicken plate dish and it was very poor quality chicken that didn’t taste great. We did not finish it. The kids burger we ordered went uneaten because the meat tasted funny (like it was bad or not true hamburger). The teriyaki steak sandwich was decent. Our waiter was efficient but overall we just couldn’t wait to leave. 10% was taken off for our wait and dealing with the restaurants disfunction without us even saying anything. The shortcomings were that evident the evening we visited. I would not recommend. It amazed us how great and organized the Gazebo restaurant was, but this other onsite restaurant had such bad quality food and was an overall disaster.

Biggest Mistake of Trip

What a mistake... This place may have been great once but it wasn't last night for seven of us. Service was slow and inadequate but worst of all was the food... We all slected different items and were all disappointed... Hard to believe that it has the ratings that it does.

Only Did The Bar, Wish We Hadn't

We decided to come by for drinks at the end of our first day on the island. We made reservations just in case. They asked if we had reservations, which was odd as the place wasn't even half full, and the bar was essentially empty. We eventually had to flag a waiter down to order drinks. The mai tai had some additional fruit syrup in it that was overpowering and made it all too sour. The drink I ordered wasn't blended enough and the ice was so thick it was essentially impossible to drink. I tried to order a Painkiller after that and the bartender said no. Now, I don't know how you can call yourself a Tiki Bar and not know how to make a Painkiller. That's as foundational and basic of a tiki drink as a Mai Tai. I'm trying not to be pretentious but, again, you're calling yourself a tiki bar and can't make the most basic tiki drink? Can't even look it up? We got their tiki version of an old fashioned and it was...fine. While drinking noticed some frightening electrical work next to us (a plug simply taped to live wires) and asked for the check. Maybe the food is good? I wasn't going to give it another chance.

Food wasn’t necessarily terrible for the price but wouldn’t go back, even for a budget meal. Decor was tacky and cheap looking. Restaurant is indoors but it was extremely hot in the building. Mixed drinks were poor quality. Wait staff seemed more interested in talking than taking care of guests. Had to ask for all of the items that were ordered.

We stopped by this little bar for a drink about 8pm. We had 4 in our party. One in our party was already intoxicated and should not have been served, But the bartender had no problem serving her. After 20 minutes he said it was last call and they were closing an hour early for no reason. (Bar was full) I had not even received my drink when he brought the bill and he said he thought I didn’t want it. They could not make my drink now because the bar is cleaned up. (Not possible) after we paid, my wife and I went out of the bar area and waited for the other two in our party. We over heard the bartender asking another group of girls “what’s your problem” then “bars closed you need to leave” there was no warning. Served last drinks and made everyone leave in 5 minutes. The bartender told the other two in our group to leave because the bar was closed as they were trying to sign the bill and tip. He served three drinks to our drunk friend (after she arrived drunk) she started mumbling and the bartender said Again “you need to leave” and she replied “we are” he snaps “this is just a job to me, I’m off in 10 minutes.” Not sure what that means, but for a bartender he sure hates drunk people. The Mai-tai is made with mango and is awful. After getting that my friend asked for one made with pineapple. He said it was premixed so he can’t. Then changed his mind and said “well I can just hand make it with all the same ingredients I guess.” (Boom, mind blown) hand make a drink in a full bar….?

Kitchen 5315 is back baby!

Been traveling to Napili for quite a few years, been to Kitchen 5315 many times and under several names. I understand it’s under new management and a new chef and the changes can only be described as amazing! This place has always been a little inconsistent and serviceable in the hyper competitive dining landscape that is west Maui. My recent dinner was one pleasant surprise after another. From the great service, to food quality, everything worked. Did I mention value??? Prices were more than fair for the almost flawless $21 garlic shrimp. It had a smooth complex sauce with a nice presentation and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. My dining partner had the $17 fish and chips. A heaping plate of 4 large pieces of what tasted like mahi mahi was great. The coating was on the heavier side but crispy and complemented the light flaky fish. A solid choice. It was happy hour so the $5 dollar Mai Tai’s and Margaritas were a great pre-meal libation. 50% appetizers at happy hour are also a no-brainer! I’m not saying it’s a challenger to Mama’s Fish House as a world class restaurant but for anyone who understands value you need to give it a try. And I have seen some of the reviews regarding service as being understaffed and or poor. Get Real! Short staffed restaurants are here to stay. It’s about survival post pandemic. Time to recalibrate your service expectations, service maybe a little slower but the pleasant but not overbearing staff at Kitchen 5315 are superb! Kitchen 5315 can be recommended for a great dining experience! Did I mention they serve breakfast? I’m gonna skip the line at the Gazebo and give it a try and I’ll be sure to let you know how that goes!

The food was OK, but the servers seemed to have no training. He was a nice-enough young man, but he brought three of our four dinners, then disappeared until we reminded him that we needed a fourth dinner. When we finished, he did not clear our plates, just came overto have us pay him. Our dinner guest asked him to please clear our empty plates first. Before the pandemic, this was a favorite restaurant of ours. I am not sure if we will return. (The men loved the prime rib. Food was fine.)

Unexpected Surprise

Was thinking it might not have been a good choice walking in. The restaurant is tucked in an Outrigger hotel, filled with plastic succulents on the wall and around the whole place. But my fears were quickly put aside. The service was wonderful , the food was plentiful. Huge portions of great food. I had the chicken katsu which I asked them to swap out to white meat which they did and my husband had the Hawaiian chicken. They come with 2 scoops of rice and a side. I personally live the Mac salad mmmm. Come hungry. Leave satisfied.

Sad Tiki Bar

We stumbled upon this place looking to have some drinks and an afternoon snack. It's not on the water and the tiki bar is just a dark area where the bar is. It was almost empty. We had a few mai tais b/c they were on special, but they add Frangelico to theirs (we had the second round without and much better). I had the aloha poke & lomi lomi salmon with rice and crispy wontons and the quality wasn't there. We had better poke & salmon from the Napili Village Market. I'd give this place a skip if there are other options open.
