Delicious traditional food, I tried their beef cheeks and the spaghetti with dried and salted roe and both were amazing - never tried any of those before. The portions were good and overall it was a good value for money

We stayed over near the Mestre train station and found this restaurant by lucky chance. But even for people staying over in Venice proper, it would be worth the trip to Mestre to enjoy the fresh, fabulous seafood at very reasonable prices. It is most highly recommended for seafood lovers who are adventurous eaters. We started with the big antipasto platter, with all kinds of seafood (cooked and raw), some of which I had never tasted before (like cuttlefish roe). We then had the bigoli with bottarga, followed by swordfish and cuttlefish in black sauce as the main courses. All unusual, perfectly fresh, and delicious. The service was friendly and attentive.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant! Our waitresses spoke English and the menu was also available in English, which meant we didn’t need to google translate everything. They were very accommodating when I asked about gluten free items, and gave me GF crackers and advised me on which dishes were suitable from the menu.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our food, the seafood risotto and cuttlefish with polenta was amazing and hopefully we can visit again in the next few days.

I had the gnocchi with smoked duck. The sauce was delicious, but not much duck and the gnocchi was significantly over cooked and mushy. The house red wine was too sweet and had no character at all. My waiter was abrupt and obviously disapproved when I asked for some Parmesan cheese.

Our hotel, the excellent Hotel Cris, recommended this restaurant. It is off the beaten track, in a quiet residential neighbourhood. We had the two best meals, by far, of this 15-day Italy trip here.
It was very busy on Saturday night and about half-full on Tuesday night. The outdoor tables were all occupied both nights. It is well worth making a reservation.
There is a good wine list. The first night, we had a bottle of Roero Arneis. What I liked was that the waiter steered us towards a different wine, which was actually cheaper. We had the latter on the second night, followed by the Roero!
There is a wide menu. We had seafood and pasta dishes. Each one was absolutely delicious. The cherry crĂŞpe dessert was great.
Service is friendly.
We plan to stay in Mestre again next year, just so we can eat here!

A really gem of a place. We were recommended by our hotel and we were not disappointed. I ordered tuna herb crusted with grilled vegetables and my husband had liver and onions. Service was quick all servers spoke excellent English and it’s the best tuna I’ve ever eaten. We followed up with chocolate cake and ice cream again delicious. Price was reasonable and good house wine. If we were staying longer I would go back in a shot.

Very tasty fried sea food (despite polenta which was tasteless). Other dishes also looked great but we didn’t try it. Service fast and very friendly. Definately strong position on Mestre’s gastronomy list. Why 4 not 5? I was eating cheaper and much delicate fried sea food, that’s why.

The ambient is welcoming and cosy. The staff is extremely prompt. The wine list is very good, even for sofisticated taste, at a fair price and the food is simply great. I would return every time without hesitation.

Beautiful restaurant off the main road in a residential area. Quiet when we arrived, but busy as the night progressed. I had the tortelloni with mushrooms and truffles - to die for. Tiramisu Beatrice for dessert. Very good restaurant

Don’t take any notice of that clown from Belgium or any of the others that rubbish this restaurant & Mestre, your in Italy not tourist land
My second time this year at Hosteria Dante & 3rd overall
Real Ventian food, the white pasta ragu was delicious, the liver onions & polenta cooked to perfection, the house wine 🍷 is very good as is the bottled beer 🍺 👍 very reasonably priced
The 2 girls that served me were brilliant, they even brought me a plate for the bread without asking 🤣
I will definitely be returning next year đź‘Ť

What is it with travellers and influencers searching the ultimate selfie fame by visiting Venice? What is the joy of pursuing the feeling of being an ant in a crowd looking at the same views and spreading the same postcard feeling on social media? The result of it is obvious, that those crowds often end up standing on the Rialto bridge but ultimately spend half of their time in a suburb like Mestre, well away from the true Venice. Do not bother trying to do it differently, unless you have a million dollars to spare by booking a hotel in Venice itself.....good luck finding it. Anyhow, back to Mestre where a decent meal is the ultimate goal after a walk in that legendary Venice. Brings you to Antica Hostaria, well reviewed on tripadvisor. Not the most idyllic of places, let alone the outside terrace. Pretending to be the reference of seafood and fish. Public mainly foreign when I was there, explains the story above. Food average, experience the same. Octopus salad disappointing (could not really feel the freshness of the squid). Pasta vongole excellent, good points. I tried the fegato Veneziano, not bad at all. But in view of many other places I visited in Italy......there is better. But not in Mestre am afraid.
