Sailz Lake Hawea Restaurant & Bar is upstairs above the General Store & Cafe. Sailz offers an al la carte menu of uncomplicated New Zealand cuisine, friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere for locals and visitors alike. With views across the lake and surrounding mountains, the restaurant seats 45 indoors, and a shaded deck seats a further 40, and is a great venue for small or larger groups of diners, year round.

Was recommended to go to Sailz for a meal. We visited the cafe for lunch one day during the week. Was a very foggy day cafe seemed to have a few people about mainly tradies either eating their pies or waiting for their orders. We waited at the counter to be served but was asked to wait as the young person was not sure what to do. Appeared to be a student filling in and was being taught how to do the orders on the till?. Once meal ordered and we received our coffee we waited and waited for our order. When we followed this order up was told their was a backload in the kitchen. We could not see the clients about to see this however when we received our order some was still cold. As we had waited so long we just put up with it. Was really disappointed with the experience after the place being recommended to us by a local.

Had some really great takeaways from here this week!!! We got the beef brisket burger and spicy chicken burger - both were delicious and the hot chips were awesome too!!

Sailz at lake Hawea is multifunctional with a bar, food to eat or takeaway, shop for basics and tourist information. Staff very friendly and professional. I enjoyed a sandwich lunch with water and a coffee and I will return next time I'm around.

My husband and I stopped for coffee and cake on our way north. Great find. Service very friendly and the fresh pastries and coffee so wonderful. Bought sandwiches and more treats for the road. So glad we found this special little cafe.

Dunno about the cafe downstairs, but the restaurant upstairs was great! Very friendly waitress, an amazing view and a lamb shoulder to die for. Highly recommend.

The ski field was closed so we took a road trip to Lake Hawea - what a beautiful spot! We had coffee and biscuits here and it was amazing. From the happy helpful girl behind the counter to the entertainment from all the locals coming for their pies and coffee - we enjoyed our stop there immensely. If only I had the nerve to ask for the recipe for those Anzac biscuits.

Sailz was great. Sat in front of 🔥, nice Australian Shiraz & local oat IPA beer. Pork belly, swede & artichoke gratin, Minaret venison with beetroot mash were all lovely. Lemon pot desert was citrusy & tasty. Amber was a great hostess, will return.

We live locally. We don't often drop $'s on meals out but last night we decided to treat ourselves. We both ordered the buttermilk chicken main. Despite it being only around 6pm and only one other table occupied we waited a lengthy period of time for our food. When we received it we were very disappointed. The chicken was a small slab that looked boiled. It was flat, grey in colour, tasteless, and cold. It sat next to a small limp salad. We were gobsmacked that for the price that was all that was on our plate, cold, tasteless, grey chicken that we likened to a small child's jandal. It'll be a long time before we throw another $57 over your counter. We failed to see any value on our plates.

We love Lake Hawea to visit and stop here, they have the best burgers and the chips are big crunchy thick chips, the best I’ve had. Great food, perfect for a picnic on the lake.

Waited 1.5 hours for our meals, we had a reservation, not many people there when we arrived and we ordered easy soups and fish and chips but still an awful long wait without being advised of the wait time. Also seafood chowder not your traditional chowder, more like a Vege soup with some seafood in it.

I was disappointed at what I ate at lunch time in the downstairs cafe. I had a hot dog (outer batter rather hard) and chips (soft and not very hot) plus a cappuccino. I asked for the coffee to be double shot but it wasn't and the froth was pretty thin.
I've eaten many times in this cafe and it's a bit up and down with the quality of the food and drink.

We visited the restaurant last week. We arrived into Lake Hawea in the late afternoon and looked for somewhere close to our airbnb and we stumbled on this place. I was initially a little concerned cause there was only 2 guys having a beer and some fries when we arrived. But I'm so glad we stayed. There was 6 of us there and we all got something different for dinner and EVERYTHING was amazing. The food was SO GOOD!!!!!! The waitress was really helpful and even though a few of us wanted to change our orders around a bit, they were really accommodating. Will definitely be back!!
