We're in a guest house for 7 nights just B&B so love finding nice places to eat in the evening. Our walk along the seafront brought use to the hotel in which this is situated. The menu outside looked appetising and reasonably priced- so we booked for Sunday evening. Track and trace was in place along with sanitisers, directions were in place for one-way walking system. Tables are spaced well apart and are cleaned thoroughly after use. Our starters of bubble and squeak with a poached egg and prawns in garlic butter were tasty and we'll cooked but given the price could have been a bit bigger. However our main courses were just right - chicken and chips, lamb shank and saute potatoes, with beautifully cooked vegetables to share were stunning. The wine list is short to the point and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly, wearing masks and the service was excellent

Great atmosphere. The fireplace was blazing and we felt welcomed straight away. Was given the option to have a drink and order meal at bar before sitting at the table or to be sat at the table straight away, there was no rush to get us in and out if that made since even though we had the reservation booked for 6pm which was when we arrived. We opted for sitting at the table, they sat us by the window with a lovely view and again offered to take our coats for us......this I feel does not exist/happen any more. The choices on the menu was great and the specials did through a curve ball in my decision making :P We was offered warm bread rolls with real butter before our starters arrived. The portion sizes was big, and made the meal overall worth the value for money. Even though we was stuffed and didn't finish our mains off, we couldn't resist having a dessert. The atmosphere really was that welcoming we honestly didn't want to leave :) The intervals between meals was sufficient enough to digest the course and enjoy the next. I would come back to have the breaded brie again!!! The restaurant was quiet on the night, I feel it is truly a hidden gem in Great Yarmouth. I'm so happy they are open to public now as it was previously for residence only. The meal came to less than £50 which included alcoholic drinks and 3 courses for 2 people.

We had dinner here on Friday evening. We booked it after reading an article featuring the restaurant in the local paper. We were greeted very warmly and shown to the bar, we had pre dinner drinks in the bar which was lovely and cosy. We were given menus and advised of the specials available that evening. The menu would appeal to most tastes. We were shown through to our table, it was a very quiet evening but that didn’t bother us at all , we had a lovely table at the window and were entertained by the brilliant ‘oldies’ CD playing which made the evening even more special as we remembered all those brilliant songs ! We both opted for Sirloin Steaks each were perfectly cooked and delicious they came accompanied by the usual trimmings , the bernaise sauce was delicious. We only had 1 starter but I did try it - coconut chicken and salsa dip it was scrumptious and I wished then I had ordered one too ! There is a good selection of wines by the glass, I enjoyed a Chilean Merlot, Prosecco by the glass comes in small bottles and is good. I would recommend a bit more selection of non alcoholic drinks i.e fruit ciders etc. Sadly we couldn’t manage one of the delicious puddings , but we had coffees, mine was a liquor coffee which was the perfect end to a lovely evening, with delicious food and wonderful friendly service. Would we return? Absolutely! Can’t wait ! Thank you x

Whilst they are to be applauded for getting the restaurant up and running during these difficult times, the whole experience was disappointed and felt like it was straight out of the 1980s. The decor was dated and restaurant lacked atmosphere. The menu, too, was dated with traditional sprig of parsley placed on top of each dish. Starters: Brie was poorly cooked with it still being cold in the centre. Scallops lost in amidst of the largest salad (iceberg lettuce) going. Mains: Chilli lacked much of the brisket it was advertised as containing and was served with a sweet chilli sauce (no idea why!?!) which would strip paint. Coffees: Pod made and had run out of basic Americano and the Latte (with soya milk)had a layer of skin halfway down. One positive? The nut roast was lovely (according to daughter). Disappointing considering the rating on here. Expected much, much more. Must be better nearby.

Negatives ... I had steak which wasn’t seasoned at all and the mushrooms served with it were tinned!!! Chips were so dry and I’m sure reheated in a microwave. Peppercorn sauce was so thin and watery it was pointless. Wife had salmon which was tasteless and potatoes served with it were cold and her starter was the pork of which was very dry and again I wouldn’t be surprised if this had been reheated via a microwave. Positives .... the waitress staff are very polite and attentive. My starter which was white bait was a huge portion size.

Just had another fab party (60+1) we chose the £19.50 a head buffet and oh what a buffet it was!! From cold home cooked meats to an array of fresh seafood. An extra nice touch is that waitresses were behind the buffet table and serving you your food. It was 10/10 for the food. All the waitresses were friendly cheerful and always willing to assist. All the food was of a very high quality. This is our third family party here and the service has been top notch on all occasions- the hosts Paul and Lisa were fabulous and made sure the evening went smoothly and made sure we all had a good time

once again Garrods restaurant has delivered great, quality food. Even though the restaurant is closed due to covid their delivery service is top notch, and the food tastes just as good. I couldn't praise this family run restaurant highly enough

Visited Garrod's for the first time last week. The food was very nice - I had coconut chicken goujons for starters which was chicken goujons sprinkled with coconut served with a nice dip, my partner had the mussels which were very tasty and the mussels were a good size. For main I had salmon with stir fried noodles and vegetables which again was tasty but just a little bit greasy. My Partner had skate for his main which was slightly over cooked ( which is easily done) as it wasn't possible to remove any fish at all from one complete side of the skate, however the other side was plentiful and very tasty. The chips were wonderful as was the side salad and coleslaw. The surroundings are very typical of an old seaside hotel - heavily patterned wallpaper and carpet, old fashioned lighting, tables and chairs. For me this was a bit disappointing as the room could be wonderful with a bit of modernisation. I definitely wouldn't call the restaurant an 'a la carte eatery' as described on the website but it was all pleasant and I couldn't fault the staff who provided an excellent service. All in all good value for money

Pre-booked a table for the whole family as we were celebrating a significant birthday whilst on (rearranged) holiday. It seems odd to have to review how safe the place was but if it helps reassure others, so be it. The Hotel has put in place a clear signed one way system, screens to protect staff, staff wearing masks, regular cleaning of tables and surfaces, plenty of space between tables. In short a very safe space and well handled by all the staff with friendliness and humour about the situation. We were treated as old friends by Lisa on arrival, and by Charlotte our waitress for the evening. Charlotte could not have been more friendly, helpful and engaging with the small children. She did everything with the loveliest of demeanours and smiles. I hope she is able to travel to Australia and NZ soon! To the food! Good menu choices, plenty for everyone. Dressed crab special starter was delicious, as were the scallops (though too much side salad for a starter). The rest of my party enjoyed their starter too. Good size portions. As were the mains - all good size portions. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Pork escalope was delicious, thick, crunchy coating and wonderful mustard sauce. Everyone clearer their plate including the 5 year old!! Service was exemplary, and friendly. Highly recommend this place - good food, great service, friendly, clean and well maintained. Will return on next visit to Great Yarmouth.

We stayed at the hotel for a short break & dined for 3 nights. Good menu (not overly extensive) which is a good sign as it concentrates on quality rather than quantity. The Sunday roasts are of a real quality, delicious & filling @ an exceptional price. Vegetarians options are really good.

As non-residents,(booked into another hotel a few hundred yards away) we went in to see if a table was available for evening meal. The staff went out of their way to get us a table and what a result! The food was lovely, great taste and good portions. The service was brilliant throughout the evening including after the meal when we sat in the bar area with drinks. We booked a table for the remaining nights of our holiday and enjoyed each one. Would highly recommend the restaurant and will be hoping to book our next Yarmouth holiday with them at Furzedown Hotel. Steve and Sue Apps

Lovely food great value. My wife had the Whitebait for starters, followed by The Sea Bass, I had the sirloin steak followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding all of which were cooked perfectly. We then had a relaxing drink in the bar afterwards. All covid measures in place. Spotlessly clean, and can highly recommend.

I often struggle with finding restaurants that will cater for all our dietary needs. Garrods restaurant has a good selection for vegetarians and vegans as well as clearly labelled gf meals. They also have good vegan and gf options in their desert menu too which really completed our meals - so often the desert are forgotten and there's only so much sorbet a vegan can face!! The food was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed my nut roast and we even went back for a second meal during our holiday. The service was exemplary. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble - we were made to feel very welcome. They were knowledgeable and I felt secure in ordering a gf meal for my daughter who has Coeliacs. The tables are well spaced out and there were excellent procedures in place to make it Covid safe. We were on holiday celebrating exam results. Garrods really helped to make our holiday a success. We would definitely visit again.

Thé food here is always freshly cooked and the menu is flexible to fit your requirements and wants in many ways where the staff are also happy to help provide what you are after. The staff are also very polite in welcoming you into the restaurant where I felt very safe because of the social distancing procedures put in place due to coronavirus. i would highly recommended the restaurant for a lovely meal out
