We visited Dunoon for a day trip and were looking for a dog friendly place to eat. I popped into the bar of The Lorne and enquired whether they had a beer garden and whether we could take our dog in. I was greeted by very friendly staff who directed us to the beer garden and made us and our dog feel very welcome. Our waitress explained that it was their first day open following the restrictions imposed by the government and that they were getting used to the new working systems. They were well set up to ensure that they and all their customers remained safe and had a good track and trace system in place. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced and they made sure that our dog had his own bowl with fresh water. They were a few teething problems for the staff but this did not negatively impact on our experience and they were quickly rectified. Overall and great meal and fantastic staff. Would recommend and return.

We visited here for a family meal whilst staying at Hunters Quay. Food was lovely, but I am fussy and got quite a few fatty bits in my steak, which is not ideal. Also I would say it is definitely over priced. We ordered the prawns for starter and 3 prawns with some lettuce was £7.95. Drink is also really pricey. Overall the staff were lovely and food was nice but due to being so overpriced, we are going to try other eateries on our return next month.

We were walk in customers and thought the outside of the venue looked lovely. We are a family of four. We were well looked after and all the waiting staff knew the food and drinks menu recommending a nice beer. We had the special of fish and chips with either starter or dessert for two (£28). The fish and chips were some of the best I’ve eaten, very thin crispy batter and perfectly cooked fish along with homemade chips and great accompaniments of tartare sauce, mushy peas and pickled onions. The little people enjoyed their freshly cooked meals. I’d highly recommend for the food, service and venue, a triple whammy. Well done The Lorne, if we’re ever back in the area we’ll be returning customers.

We enjoyed our first meal at the Lorne Bar. We had a table on their sunny balcony and the meal was great. The second time we visited my Daughter decided to order some Nachos which were OK but two weeks later we are still trying to come to terms with how they can charge almost £15 for a small portion with a bit of cheese on.

On a day visit to Dunoon, we found this lovely restaurant. There were 7 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs, so not easy to find somewhere to accommodate us without a booking. We arrived just before 12 noon and hoped we could get in as we were early and this was a dog friendly place. However, no dogs in the restaurant, so they offered us tables in the garden which turned out to be perfect for us. The have a lovely covered garden area. The waitress was one of the best we have ever served us, her manner was polite and was super helpful. They had a good menu (including the children's menu) and offered a burger special which included drink for £10. All the food tasted very good and the portions were a good size. Would recommend to anyone visiting Dunoon.

Booked on the app a table to this wee gem that was so easy and straightforward. Received a lovely welcoming into the bar and we were seated straight away at a lovely wee table where you could watch the chefs in action. What a treat, this place is clean tidy covid secure with screens and social distancing measures in place. What really makes it is the food, wow loved every dish and great value for money, we all loved our meals I enjoyed lasagne and partner the lorne chicken with haggis and whisky sauce oh it was dreamy, perfectly flavoursome. We went for desserts too which I must highly recommend the lemon sorbet and meringue just lovely. Cannot fault this place the staff couldn’t do enough for you, very attentive and supa friendly. Best pub and restaurant in Dunoon by far, highly recommend it’s just faultless.

In Dunoon during the COVID pandemic we met family for a socially distanced meal here. Despite the restrictions we had a warm and attentive welcome before enjoying an outstanding meal. The haggis starter was so big that I wondered what size the main course would be. I followed that with a marvellous mixed grill whilst my wife had a Cajun chicken burger which she said was equally good. Well worth a visit

We visited here last night (9/6) and arrived slightly late because of travelling& the ferry. The staff were so welcoming & attentive without being ‘in our face’. The food was served quickly & our waitress could not have done more. My steak was perfectly cooked & the haggis neeps & tatties did not disappoint. They knew it was a special birthday meal & the cranachan for dessert arrived with a flaming sparkler & singing. All in all a superb evening. You must visit!

My partner and I enjoyed a lovely meal last night at the Lorne. Every course was extremely tasty. Portion size was very good and the staff worked very very hard to make sure food was well presented and arrived at the optimum time. Thoroughly recommend.

Where do you start. The Lorne is one of those places that puts a town on the map. We had a table booked for Saturday night. When we arrived the place was packed but we were greeted instantly with a warm smile from the waitress and shown straight to our table. A drinks order was taken and we were given menus. The barmen were extremely busy but our drinks arrived quickly and our order was taken for food. The menu was extensive and catered for every taste. A great selection. When the food arrived it all just oozed quality and you could tell instantly that it was prepared by chefs who took pride in using the freshest ingredients and presenting them in an appetising way. From experience I know how difficult it is to run a busy kitchen when the restaurant is full. Everyone in our party of 6 raved about the food, the waitresses regularly checked on us to see if we wanted more drinks. We ordered sweets too and these didn’t disappoint either. The black cherry and chocolate cheesecake was so good. After our dinner we moved to a table we had booked outside. The waitress advised us that our table was being sanitised and she would show us out to it when ready. We had a private area to ourselves with a patio heater. What a lovely idea. That really just rounded off our night to perfection. It was my daughters 30th birthday and she is still talking about it. Despite it still being extremely busy inside and us being outside, the waitresses regularly checked on us to clear the table and take drinks orders. To have a venue provide such quality where every single member of staff is invested in making sure that every customers experience is memorable is truly remarkable and a true credit to each and every one of them and the owners who have clearly invested so much money and time in making this place a hidden gem in Argyle. Well done to everyone at the Lorne and thank you from all of our party for making our night such a special one.

Had a great meal her on Tuesday night while on holiday in Dunoon. We were a bit wary of eating out as we have been shielding for 18 months , however the Lorne was spotless, excellent cleaning of tables etc and each table in a "pod" surrounded by pVC panels. The food was excellent , portions were huge (a bit too big for us!) I had the lamb shank which was so tender it fell off the bone easily and with a good selection of veg. My husband had a prawn cocktail (huge) and a stek sald which was well cooked and very colourful. Would definitely recommend the Lorne and we will visit again when in Dunoon the one slight problem was a the noise levels, difficult to hear each other as it was very busy

7 of us ate here and we were not disappointed in any way, catered well for a vegetarian and gluten free even remembering to change the bread before it was eaten. Decent menu offering local dishes and excellently cooked. Cocktails menu is vast and all were freshly made.

We had dinner on Monday at the Lorne. The food was amazing and cooked to perfection. The lorne chicken was the best chicken I've had. The service was outstanding with the girls paying attention to every detail of the guests. They ensured they checked with the guests regularly...recommended dishes and just all round great attention to detail. Will definitely be back

Arrived to find a lovely warm and welcoming setting. My wife and daughter are vegetarian and really fancied the Sunday dinner. The staff were accommodating and swapped the meet for vegetarian Haggis, and the chef even made them onion gravy in place of the meat gravy. Nothing to much trouble. Great value and really really nice food. Great value and great hospitality

Wow, clean, warm, bright and welcoming. Happy, busy staff working well together. Very clever and extensive menu. We arrived mid evening out of season and found the place to be very busy, we had not booked and the restaraunt was full but the helpful staff cleared a table in the bar for us and made us feel at home, we were warned that we may have to wait a while for food because they had a big party in, no problem, and actually we did not have to wait too long. Beer was good. Starters were good if a little bit expensive for what they were. My wife had a special, scallops and black pud. etc. well cooked. Our son had the mixed grill, steak, gammon, lamb chop and sausages, he said that all the meats tasted the same and they all had a pink colour, I think that they may have all been brined together? I had a steak, my wife rolls her eyes when I order steak because she knows that I am likely to send it back if it is not cooked to my liking. When my steak arrived I did what I always do, cut it in half and inspect it before the waitress disappears, I ordered it rare but it looked nearer medium to me, thats ok. As I ate my way through it I wished that I had sent it back, it was absolutely cold and very dry I suspect that it had been pre-cooked, it was served with 'hand cut chips' which were more like oven cooked potato wedges. We did enjoy our evening but at twenty five pounds per main course it should have been better, it is not difficult to cook a good steak correctly. I have thought hard about only giving three stars but the price should reflect the quality. Every thing else was good.
