My only complaint would be that from outside, you can't tell how lovely the food and atmosphere inside is. A large bold menu but they sure know how to make what they have, very Americanised but tasty and not greasy! Food arrived in great time although we were the first customers that day. Good value for money, in the sense that you pay roughly £8-£10 for your average dish but plenty of food comes on the plate, I'm 6'4", I was full after our meal. Doesn't always happen. Not sure what else to say, 10/10.

Got this place recommended to me and glad I tried it, totally amazing, really fresh crunchy salad dish served with starters is scrummy, the burgers are quality and I can't wait to get another one. Great food, atmosphere and decor. Certainly be back

Very authentic with American memrobelia inside. Excellent ice cream shakes with lots of choice of flavours. Large extensive menu. Sharing platter comes with a wee very nice crunchy side platter. Worth a visit when in the area.

Clearly a busy and popular eatery. Luckily, we called in at 3.30 pm so there was a table free but all tables were booked for the early and late evening slots. We opted for nachos starter and wraps for mains. All delicious and two full wraps for the main. Was expecting a wrap cut in half so very pleasantly surprised. As our eyes were bigger than our bellies we each had a wrap to go. As an anniversary dinner goes very pleased. Great service and care taken considering current restrictions and to add to the great experience they are participating in the Eat Out To Help Out scheme. All round ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We'd been let down at the first restaurant we booked, so called the 51st State and were lucky enough to find them not too busy. We were given a warm welcome on arrival and quickly received drinks followed by a generous portion of nachos. Our steaks were delicious and cooked to perfection. They were accompanied by large portions of fries. It's very rare that I refuse a dessert, but I really couldn't manage one, despite the tempting menu. Thank you 51st State: you saved our evening, which was the last of our holiday in Argyll and Bute!

Our favourite restaurant in Dunoon we popped in twice for dinner during our midweek stay at Hunters Quay holiday village. Food is excellent and the staff are very welcoming which makes the experience good. Well worth the money and a visit.

7 of us ate here and the menu can only be described as HUGE,so many options and then an Italian restaurant menu on top. We visited twice in the week we were there on holiday however the first visit was much better, our server on the second visit van only be described as uninterested and we seemed to be more of a nuisance than customers. Food was well cooked and the Italian meals were of a better quality. The fact we ate here twice shows the good quality delivered.

This has to be one of our favourites when visiting the Dunoon area. It’s unpretentious, yet serves the best prawn cocktail in town - and long may this continue to be the case! Prawns are not the usual tasteless miniatures, and it’s always a generous portion. It also serves the best hamburgers - although they could be a little more generous with the cheese topping! Ultra thin pizzas are also always good! Side salads are tasty, probably because of the dressing used. Service is always friendly and polite, with the occasional good humoured banter thrown in, which adds to the experience. All in all, we’d recommend the 51st State!

We were very fortunate to come across this place as we left dinner to the very last minute and had forgotten to pre-book somewhere to eat. Not a single bad word can be said about this place. The food was absolutely incredible, staff was terrific and the whole theme was very unexpected to see in Dunoon. We had ordered a Calzone (with a side of chips) and the Cajun Chicken with chips, both of which came with a wee portion of coleslaw. The chicken melted in your mouth and was seasoned beautifully. The calzone was baked instead of fried and was the BEST calzone I have ever had. The chips were perfect and even the coleslaw was delicious (and I don't even like coleslaw!). We spoke to who we believe is the owner and he was very friendly and approachable and our server was a woman who could not have been better. Her service was as perfect as our meals. We highly recommend The 51st State Bar & Grill and will definitely be back next time we are in Dunoon.

Went in for cake/coffee on Thursday, and went back on Friday for lunch! Service was impeccable, food was piping hot and delicious. I had Bourbon chicken and a fries, then a cheesecake. The fries were lovely and crunchy and the chicken was delicious. The staff are really friendly, and nothing was a bother to them. Nest time I'm in Dunoon I'll DEFINITELY be going for meals there!!

The friend I ws with couldn't eat her food as it 'tasted old' and wasn't right at all apparently. No apology and not even offered a reduction in the bill. Mine was pretty average too. It was during eat out to help out but still, you guys need to be fighting for every bit of repeat business that comes through the door and unfortunately you won't be getting it from us, such a shame as I actively support local business where possible.

Thank you for your recent review and it's a shame that you didn't appear to enjoy your visit and even more so that you don't intend to return. It would appear that this was your first visit dining with us so just to confirm...our food is cooked to order and to imply that we don't "fight" to satisfy our customers and to encourage repeat business in inaccurate...it's our raison d'etre! Eat out to help out was indeed a busy period where we saw a big spike in demand and drafted in extra staff to help who have worked incredibly hard since we have been allowed to trade once lockdown was lifted. Any business who claims to be perfect and don't make mistakes is not telling the truth and perhaps on this occasion we got it wrong. That's why we advocate that it's always best to raise any problem or query at the time in order that it gives us an opportunity to remedy the situation rather than a customer leaving unhappy. Local trade is the life blood of our business which is why we work hard day in day out to provide a good, consistent service for our customers which in turn enables us to support the 18 staff on our payroll. Whilst you have made it clear that you won't be returning we would hope that you continue to support local trade, it's very important. Ultimately, we're sorry that you felt that your visit was not up to scratch.

Had an absolutely beautiful lunch today. Service from both Tommy and Louise was first class, friendly, cheery, made to feel very welcome, with a perfect balance of being attentive, without being intrusive. I've not been eating out since before my Mother died in December 2019, and then of course Covid hit the world, therefore I've forgotten the hidden gems of local eateries. I could tell straight away that the establishment has had a change of Chef though, and the current Chef's passion for the food being presented greatly shines through. Our compliments to the Chef. Servings are bountiful, flavoursome, and cooked beautifully. Thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Thank you.

The restaurant is much smaller than it appears to be in the pictures. We are upstairs(ground level), this is the American diner part, downstairs in the basement is the Italian restaurant but I think they share the same menu. I had salmon and prawn tagliatelle, was ok but not wow that's lovely, husband had the ribs and were great, son had a 9 inch calzone pizza, perfectly cooked and delicious. Would recommend and return.
