Delicious food, friendly staff, great atmosphere

WOW is all I can say. We had the lunchtime special which was £10.95 to include any cold starter and a choice of mains, we were give a basket of warm, fresh bread with dips when we ordered. For starter I had a huge plate of delicious hummus and the main I had a chicken shish with salad and rice! Just when I thought I couldn't eat anymore, they gave us some free Baklava to try........I've had this before in Turkey and wasn't impressed, but this was total melt in the mouth. Can't wait to go back and try the main menu. Amazing new restaurant for Scarborough

Fantastic quality fresh food.

Literally sat having had a wonderful selection of traditional Turkish food from the lunchtime menu & couldn’t wait to write a review. My word it’s good, better than good, The food, atmosphere, welcome & service is excellent. We’re from Leicester and have tried many different Turkish restaurants and can say this restaurant excels in every way. The food is so fresh & tasty, using many different herbs & spices. I had lamb which melted in the mouth… Literally can’t fault this place. The food is very reasonably priced considering everything is fresh & prepared whilst you wait…. & we didn’t have to wait too long at all. If you’re visiting Scarborough & want to try excellent, traditional, tasty Turkish food you must visit. Thank you so much.

Food of the Gods!

As a chef with at least 25 years experience from all around the world, catering for royalty and celebrities of all kind, I can honestly say that Askim's is well worth the visit. Firstly, upon entering this establishment you are welcomed by the very friendly staff (you really can not ask for more). Secondly, the choices on the menu are fantastic (there's plenty for all). Thirdly, the food portions are extremely generous. Fourth, the flavours are AMAZING! seriously! From the appetisers to the starters, the main courses, and even the sweets. Everything is fresh, prepped there and then (right in front of you in the open kitchen), the aromatic senses hit you with bursts of Mediterranean ingredients that help make the mouth begin to water. Fifth, the staff are fantastic! You have the owner and the heads of each department checking up to see if your happy, the waitress (kiah) is on tap for anything you need and offers a kind, loving smile, and as for the chefs......well, need I say any more.......these chefs are artists! If I could frame one of their dishes, I would, it's that good. Lastly, the cost! Honestly, at first glance, you see the prices and think it's a bit high, but what you get for that price completely out weighs any concerns of financial cost. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are very much worth every penny. Askims is the only establishment I will return to again and again! I rate this establishment a full 10/10.

Raki price

New restaurant in Scarborough. Prices are more higher than other Turkish restaurants and the service was slow and wrong but what was really annoying was to pay £9 for a single Turkish Raki. You drink Raki with water and if you like ice. Raki was £6.50 for a single and they charge £2.50 extra for water as well and also they had to cheek to tell me that most people drink Raki on its own and water is extra. I found it ridiculous and pretty offended as I am Turkish.

I can't understand some of the reviews possibly put on by staff. We went told the staff a member was gulten free but still main meal turn up will with a item of gulten on the plate. This company is London based so London prices service charged no notice given and card machine not working please watch out. On the plus side food very nice.

Fantastic lunch find

Walking around Scarborough for a bite to eat before the car park ticket ran out, we passed cafe after cafe serving ham and cheese sandwiches with limp lettuce etc. We came across Askim's with a special lunch offer sign on the street, we looked inside , very quiet, but we thought why not lets give it a go, thank god we did. We were greeted by friendly staff who explained the menu and the special deal, we opened for the lunch deal. We ordered and were surprised that flat breads and dips arrived with our starters, to be honest we were overwhelmed with the quality of the food, so tasty. The main course arrived and we thought we would never finish it but we did! So tasty. Please give it a go £10.95 was an absolute bargain. We will be back.

Good food, attentive service

This was our first visit after a friend recommended it to us. The staff are very attentive, checking everything is ok or if they can do anymore for you. While this is a positive, it also means they clear starters and bring mains quickly so the whole meal starters, drinks and main course took just 50 mins and felt a bit rushed. Food is good, starters were delicious - vine leaves and hummus and our mains of moussaka and chicken shish were also great. I always leave a tip but I don't particularly like the service charge being added to the bill without being asked - I might have wanted to tip more than 10%

First time at a Turkish Restaurant

Thought we would try something different. Lovely restaurant, clean and tidy, good menu and our Waitress, Morgan, was lovely and very helpful. When you go to visit take a healthy appetite with you as the portions are large and very tasty - you won't want to leave anything! The only thing I didn't like was the service charge that showed up on the bill - I didn't see any mention of it on the menu and it isn't showing online. I prefer to choose myself whether to leave a tip or not rather than have the restaurant automatically add it to the bill.

£££££ in terms of cost for a average meal

Average visit this time. Food we ordered was of good taste and good quality. By no means poor or exceptional. Examples which I believe in giving. The £19.95 special had chicken kebab two of the five pieces of chicken were brown and not good other three good. The one small lamb chop was crispy high fat low meat, the kebab style sausage was nice. For the price paid very expensive for what the dish had. A £6.50 side salad was again nice but came with no side of breads or anything like this. Chips were standard not poor but good. The special flat bread with mince meat and was very nice. Drinks expensive example 8.95 for G&T. I ordered Prosecco 200ml but was in fact a 175ml. Service was good extra 10% service charge added but they will take off if you wish. Our overall feedback is this is not London based eatery yet they are charging London prices. It’s expensive for what you get.

Feel a little let down

We looked at the menu and went along hoping for a free table, it was busy so they asked us to come back in 30 minutes, we did and the table was ready. It was busy but slightly frantic The staff were very pleasant and service was ok although some tables seemed to wait longer than they should They brought over a complimentary dipping dish which was very nice. We had different main courses and to be honest they were nice but a little under-whelming. They were quite bland, I am not sure if I had made more of the menu in my head and so raised expectations but I am not sure I would visit again ? Cocktail was ok and the bill was £50 so felt ok-ish but when we thought about it we did feel disappointed

First visit for 69 Birthday family party of 10 cannot fault it superb customer service, Superb Food very well presented attention to detail and good portions great value for money,whats not to like. Highly reccomended will certainly be going back best restaurant in Scarborough and for miles around and a great team. Thankyou for making my birthday special 10/10 👏👏

The best Hummus!

Lovely lunch with a friend, the lunch menu is reasonably priced and includes a cold starter and a main which comes with salad and rice or Couscous. I chose the hummus which came with warm pitta bread and a selection of dips and olives. The best hummus I’ve tasted! My main was chicken kebab with couscous, we kept the dips to have with the main course too. The service was excellent as too the wine, one of the nicest Malbec’s I’ve tasted, I need to find out where to buy it ! I love how the staff open the door for you when you leave, and their professional manner. Will definitely be back.

Delicious good value food

Newly opened restaurant serving great quality food at reasonable prices ( 2 main meals and 2 soft drinks for £45). It's referred to as Mediterranean but seemed more Turkish. Restaurant is clean and airy with a lively atmosphere without being noisy. Tables well spaced so doesn't feel crowded Staff are exceptionally attentive and helpful without being too intrusive We had the moussaka & mixed kebab. Huge portions served with rice and salad. Food was really lovely. Hot and tasty and presented on very nice plates Each table was given complimentary warm bread and dips to start ( yoghurt & chilli dip and olives) we requested more bread without any hassle ( it was delicious and we appreciated the gesture) Both of us would go back again and would recommend

Good family meal

We had a lovely evening meal here on Saturday evening, the starters were lovely. I had the calamari which was beautiful and fresh. The rest of our party had the prawns which were also very nice and enjoyed by all. The mains, the moussaka could've tasted a little better, there wasn't much lamb in it unfortunately. The chicken shish could be presented on one plate instead of two separate dishes which did make it difficult to eat. The askim specials were excellent. The service did let the meal down a little. Two of our drinks were forgotten, we then asked for a gin and tonic but instead just got a tonic. The children's meal comes with a drink but again we had to ask for this. We asked for some coffee's after our meal but told we could only have a Turkish coffee, no Americano, latte or cappacino etc on offer. This was due to the machine apparently not working since the restaurant opened. If you are paying a service charge we would expect some things on our next visit to be better. But all in all a nice restaurant with good food.

Birthday celebration

We recently visited Askims to celebrate birthdays, the restaurant has contemporary decor and a buzzy atmosphere which is enjoyable. However we were disappointed with the service, an hour to receive starters and some of the main courses had to be sent back to the kitchen because they were lukewarm or cold. It was unfortunate as the food is very tasty, good portions and well presented. Regarding the service, again it was unfortunate as there were plenty of wait staff who appeared to be busy but unorganised. With simple modifications relating to our criticisms Askims could be a great dining experience.
