Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited Viv’s kitchen for the first time today after hearing the advertising on the radio. We were not disappointed - it really is food the way it use to be. We didn’t have any of the famous cream horns but will certainly do so...on our next visit. Great food, decor and music - the diner is so clean and tidy with a great outdoor space for children. We cannot recommend it highly enough. Excellent prices and great value for money. A fun experience.More

We visited on a bustling-busy-Sunday - whew! Employees were working hard and making customers smile. Our food was good, not great and the services was the best they could do considering how many hungry people they had to serve and the ambiance was hurried. I...wish we could have timed our visit when it was not quite so busy!More

The obvious and perhaps best place to have lunch on a trip north from Wellington (or back). The staff are very efficient even when it's busy, and it does get very busy here around lunchtime. Cream horns are wonderful if you like those. A good...array of counter food, OK pies (quality varies?), good toasties and sandwiches, kitchen food very good and not as slow as you'd fear in busy times. Good coffee! (essential for a long drive). Sometimes you get to talk with Viv herself!More

Stopped in here while travelling south and so happy we did. The place was busy and the staff were lovely. Excellent burger and chips, and delicious desserts. Also spotlessly clean. Well worth the stop

Viv’s Kitchen is always a treat! Her cream horns are a sweet tooth’s delight and with retro decor, wifi and several outdoor areas, it should be a “must stop” on your road trip up the North Island

The place was packed, so many people but the staff were quick, friendly, and helpful. They are famous for their cream horn and were the quickest thing moving out of the cabinets. They were tasty but missable, it was the staff and how they worked...together and interacted with everyone in a really positive, friendly manner that made the difference for me.More

Lovely setting, staff were friendly. Food arrived in good time and was as ordered and expected. Note this visit was on NewYears Day and all appeared under control despite how busy they were. Highly recommend for quality homemade food.

The decor was excellent, I absolutely loved it!!! The food was just average, the cream horn was delicious though! Thickshake wasn't thick at all. Toilets pretty rough. Large outdoor area I can imagine kids would love.

The pie I had was dry and the onion jam was very ordinary. The service was oksy but nothing to write about. After this place had been recommended to me we were left very underwhelmed.

A cream horn is just a cream horn, right? I remember them from childhood. Nice. But nothing special. However, I had been told I had to try the ones from Viv's Kitchen in Sanson. And today I finally did. It was exquisite. Worth making a...special trip to Sanson for. I will definitely be back.More

The food was really good, side salad was a bit disappointing. Cream horns are divine, as was the Yo-Yo I brought. Staff where excellent.

I stopped for coffee and a treat on the way to work one afternoon this week. The owners have obviously put a lot of good effort into creating this one of a kind retro diner. Service was quite engaging. I had an Apple strudel and...a cappuccino. The Apple strudel was quite different compared to what I’m used to. Whereas in Austria and Germany, the strudels are primarily packed with apples and not too sweet, the Viv’s strudel was extremely sweet and had a lot of raisins and it seemed some kind of nuts. Not my preference and in retrospect I think I should have tried one of their signature cream horns. Overall though I loved the place.More
