Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the BEST place. Tucked away in N Manawatu, we had been washed out at our campsite and needed a rest. Rocked up - 3 adults & 3 kids - to such a warm welcome. Arrived 3.30. Had nibbles - what a feast! Trays...of cheesy garlic bread, pork crackling, buffalo wings. Played pool, chatted with the friendly locals. Popped over the road to look at the dear wee museum. Back to slow-cooked delights - fab burgers, brisket burgers and beef cheek risotto. Mouth-watering. And don't get us started on the mango sorbet!!!! I would go out of my way to come here again. Jenna and team were just the best - and even let us fill up all our water containers as no water at campsite. Quirky sculptures in the garden and great outdoor space to sit and for kids to stretch their legs. Next time will go in winter to see the outdoor brazier in action. 10/10More

After not having seen people much for the past 3 days, this was a nice friendly place to come enjoy some food and observe local banter! Also dog friendly with lots of seating outside 😉

Went here for lunch a while back now, but we won’t be heading back anytime soon. While eating my fried chicken, I noticed a hair in the coating itself. I didn’t want to complain at the time because I was there with friends for a...special occasion and didn’t want to sour the experience. Such a shame, as the staff were wonderful and the choice of food great.More

We booked ahead for 80 odd people and were not disappointed with an excellent lunch. The day was perfect as was the venue. The chefs' BBQ smoked wings and pulled beef pie are to write home about. Great to have a range of "ordinary" and...craft beers on tap. Highly recommended!More

Cruised to Apiti with friends in our hot rods & classic cars...friendly staff, great atmosphere and the aroma of the meats being smoked so awesome! Ordered the famous AFC Chicken burger, unbelievably stunning meal, first class presentation, taste was sensational and the touch of home...cured bacon just brilliant. Other meals were of first class restaurant quality all within a quaint warm country pub. The log fires were so inviting, the smiles from the friendly staff pretty much told you that this was one epic place to visit, they were right!More

Only place to eat in this small rural town. No atmosphere as a modern, barn type building. Nice outdoor area and I think developments are underway for improvements. Interior soul less and bland but outdoor area nicer. Good food selection and very friendly service.

If you have been looking for somewhere that does "Southern BBQ" well, make the effort to go to this restaurant - make it a day trip and you won't regret it. Four of us did just that - we travelled just over an hour to...get there. It's an unassuming building but as we got closer we knew exactly which one it was by the line of cars and motorbikes parked outside. It's not flash (it is afterall a country tavern) but its a place full of character and the staff were very welcoming. We all decided to order the Smoked Brisket Burger & Fries. The meals arrived and we began to eat - without exception, as each of us began to eat we couldn't help but say 'wow' at first bite. The brisket was smoky, tender and yet firm to the bite, the meat held together well and there was a generous serving inside the toasted brioche bun. The truffle mayo was fabulous and a great match with the smoky meat. The fries were awesome and were accompanied by a large dollop of mayonnaise. Upon leaving I asked how long they cooked the brisket for and he replied 'as long as it takes! It could take 10 to 12 hours, and sometimes it has taken 20 hours. It takes as long as it takes'. What a wonderful response! I asked if they did deliveries, or couriered the brisket. He responded by saying 'keep an eye on our facebook page, we have plans'. Great country tavern, amazing southern food - just wish it was more accessible!More

When I heard there was a tavern in the middle of nowhere which served smoky bbq food, I just had to try for myself. The drive through the beautiful country side was worth it and I was not disappointed. Surrounding the tavern are sculptures of...moas and giant tuatara-with rustic farm machinery.Smoke was billowing from the chimney. On entering the decor is simplistic but there are two wood burners which give you a warm welcoming feeling. There is a casual vibe and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Outdoors there is undercover seating and two huge smoke bbqs fired up and ready to go. You are spoilt for choice with the offerings on the menu all at reasonable prices. However I was there for the smoky bbq, with that I ordered the smoky brisket hamburger with truffle sauce. It was succulent full flavour rich and smoky the chef did it justice.Actually his awards are on display behind bar. The fries are crispy on outside and soft inside - scrumptious. Coffee is Arosta which is local and the barista served a good cup. Well worth the trip and I definitely will be back for smoky ribs.More

Read about the smoked meats being served here recently and thought I’d give it a go. Had the smoked brisket burger. Very very good. Saw lots of other dishes going out and all looked just as good. I’ll definitely be back to try more.

This was our first visit back to the Apiti Tavern since the new owners took over. We booked a table in advance. On arrival it was clear they were really, really busy. There were cars and Motorbikes everywhere out front. After a short wait to...be serviced we were directed to our table. The customer service was great and we were informed of the delay in food delivery. It was beautiful day and we were outside and there was live music so we were entertained while we waited. The food did take a while but OMG it was worth the wait. Fantastic food, well presented and delicious.More

Hi, there is the Apiti Lavender Farm 027 333 3621 - for larger groups there is also a house we can sometimes get, call the Tavern on 06 328 4848 if you'd like to find out more about that.
