About
Hansen's Cafe and Store is located in the village of Kimbolton, 20 minutes north of Feilding, or 50 minutes from Taihape when heading South. When traveling from Taupo to Wellington, turn off at Mangaweka and take the fully sealed scenic alternative route to State Highway 1. Kimbolton is located halfway between Wellington and Taupo which makes it the best stopping point for lunch and a walk. Hansen's provides a clean, comfortable and warm atmosphere. Our food is prepared in-house with salads, vegetarian and non-vegetarian hot meals. We also have gourmet pizzas available, freshly made for dine-in or takeaway. Our home-made GF pizza base is well respected and we also have several other GF options. Meals available during kitchen opening hours of 11am - 2pm . Our quality coffees and loose-leaf teas are complimented by a tasty range of slices and desserts made in-house. We hope you enjoy your visit!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This cafe seems to be in the middle of nowhere but quite a few people seemed to have either discovered it as we did, or came to it deliberately, as our Sunday visit saw it quite busy. Service was faultless, our food (toasted sammies and bacon butties) was perfectly made and the coffee hit the spot nicely. It's closed Monday and Tuesday and has limited hours through the rest of the week, but the lunch period would guarantee it being open.

Hansens was always good but the new owners have taken it to another level. Working for a while in the region, Hansens became a regular haunt for a weekend lunch - to the point where they just asked "the usual?" Forget the big brands - try one of their home made pizzas (chicken and cranberry!) and you will never look back. There are also plenty of good options in the cabinet and the coffee is excellent. Take the trip to Kimbolton!

Nicely presented range of cabinet food, as well as a blackboard menu, super friendly efficient service, We enjoyed a coffee before visiting Cross Hills and lunch afterwards. So nice to have very tasty club sandwiches and the lemon, ginger cheesecake was divine. The pizzas coming out looked very appealing - next time!

We came here today after heading to the snowy back roads of Apiti and the food and warmth was just perfect. Excellent set up for families with kids. They have toys and colouring stuff to keep the kids entertained. Highly recommended for anyone travelling through.

We found Hansen's by chance after a late visit to Crosshills on Saturday. How unusal for rural NZ to have a cafe open into late evening! It was perfect in everyway, the ambience, the excellent food and coffee and the friendly staff. The four of us sat outside with the tuis and were amazed at finding this delightful cafe. The pizzas were exceptionally delicious and the fresh muffin and fruit cake. Thank you !

We had planned as traveller's in a caravan to treat ourselves to a meal at the hotel that was inexplicably closed with no notification of such anywhere. Thankfully Stanley's across the road were open and what a wee gem it is. Staff were most welcoming and the fare uncomplicated and well cooked and presented. The decor is outstanding and for an establishment in the hinterland is an absolute diamond. Well done .

What a lovely cafe in the Highlands. Great food, and the service is warmer than the fantastic fire they have to heat the cafe. It is a great place to visit, and the views of the mountains and countryside around Kimbolton make it an even better reason to come here.

We had a evening meal here. Lucky for us it stays open later on Friday and Saturday. Great range of drinks available. We had the burgers and they were delicious. Generous fillings, had what they stated and we enjoyed them. This cafe has a lovely ambience, beautifully restored and a credit to the management. Local crafts available to purchase always a nice touch. Thanks for the lovely meal.

Great decor, - but the meal was disappointing. Nice hot day, so two of us ordered iced coffees. when they came out, i thought they'd accidentally given us caramel milkshakes as I could see caramel squiggled inside the glass and on top of the cream - but no- there was lukewarm coffee in there too. It was far too sweet and my daughter couldn't finish hers. I mentioned this to the guy at the counter and he appeared not to hear me, so I also gave the feedback to a woman behind the counter - who also didn't respond. The panini was super overcooked (dark brown) and really greasy, so we also didn't finish that. The bacon and egg pie was fine (hurrah), but the salad with it had very little dressing and it didn't come with any relish. Pretty disappointing overall.
