The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was even better. If you look for the warm, local restaurant this is your place.

Make sure you get there at opening time. It’s a small place and the queue forms quickly once it opens. Delicious freshly cooked tapas-style food. The cod, sardines and rissoles were all excellent. Don’t expect fine dining but it’s got lots of character and is...great fun.More
The food was delicious and was taken care with so much love. The best sardines we have ever tried, the octopus was also excellent. Prices are very normal, the setting reminded us a family business. We just showed up and they were accommodated us, Recommend...to try.More
Fantastic traditional dishes. Very carefully made. Top experience to taste the Portuguese seafood and meat.
Amazing people and amazing food. I highly recommend this place when you are visiting Porto. They make local food and serve local drinks for a very good price. The atmosphere is very nice
The place looks very characteristic, very basic. We hoped for a characteristic and tasty cuisine as well, with low prices. We were satisfied with the food price only.. The cutlfish was overcooked and dishes are generally full of onion, without any particular taste.
They open at 7pm/19h so we got there early (6:30pm or so) because we didn't know if there would be a long line. We were first, and then only a few people lined up behind us. We were let in promptly at 7pm and the...service was good and friendly. Food came out pretty fast to all the tables. The food was fine overall, but in our opinion not worth going back for a second visit. We got bread (served cold and tasted plain), sardines (really good, especially with lemon squeezed on top), bolinhos de bacalhau (very good), tronchas (probably our favorite dish we ate here - be careful when eating this because there's an olive inside that has its seed), rissois de camarao (tasty), iscas de bacalhau (good value for money, though it was dry. it's a cod filet baked inside a crepe.), prato de polvo (the octopus had good texture, but it was lacking flavor on its own. if you ate it with some of the molho verde you can't even tell you're eating octopus because it doesn't have its own distinct flavor. we love octopus and were excited to try this dish, so that was disappointing. the molho verde was the best part of the dish and delicious paired with the bread.). It was fun to watch the owners cook and interact with each other. It's a more intimate atmosphere than the feel of a restaurant. They don't accept credit cards, so make sure you bring cash.More
Walked around on Saturday night and saw this small restaurant with two local women cooking and one person out front - a tiny queue had formed of 6 Spanish people waiting for a table and it looked fantastic! Decided to come back on Sunday to...eat lunch. Arrived fairly late in the day and was in the queue just behind four Italians. Managed to get the last table before they closed for break and re-open for Sunday night dinner. These guys work hard! The tables are rustic, the photos are of old Porto, simplistic and charming and great character front of house. It has been in the same family for 3 generations. Simple menu, with typical dishes of the area. We had olives, delicious homemade bread, pickled sardines, meat croquetas (amazing) and cod croqueta also fantastic. The house red wine - litre for 3.50 euros was very drinkable. Also ordered the bacalao frito (very salty but good) and the cod in batter/pancake dish - typical of this area. Fun, lively banter, mainly other tourists and everyone happy to engage with the front of house waiter who is a real character and friendly and helpful. He advised me what was typical food of the area. I would have ordered the octopus if I had room as it looked delicious. 41 Euros for 2 and we ate masses! A truly fantastic find and was glad I persevered and got a table, as husband was not too sure the day before but I knew it would be good. A MUST VISIT if you can find it...More
Fiesta of all I mention that going to this restaurant is like attend a family dinner/lunch, we were the first clients getting in for lunch and this old lady was still cutting onions and stayed in front of us doing so for a while, like...a grandma. Food was good, prices fair (cheap actually) and the ambient was really familiar!! Recommended defoMore
Very old-school. Formal waiters & service (but diners need not dress up - we were very comfortable dressed quite informally). Went to get traditional Porto tripe & beans and were not disappointed. Delicious!
Having read reviews we went looking for this place on our last day in Porto. The map took us to the area but couldn't quite find the place. We walked around a maze of streets and steps for ages and having thankfully seen a photo...of the place online found what looked to be the front door - which was closed at the time. The name of the restaurant was no where to be seen! We queued up early in order to avoid the rush hour throng. As some have mentioned here, customer service is not high on the list at this small family run restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious but what felt like a family agreement was going on right in from of us in the kitchen. Sparks were flying but we were served! The mackerel and the shrimp patties were so tasty! I would go back just for that. Price of the meal for 4 people came to just 40 euros. That is 20 euros less than the previous days' lunch eaten on the river front, which was absolutely disgusting. It didn't take long before people started queuing up to get in, there were so many that the lady working there actually told them to get outside as she couldn't breathe! I would recommend that you give this place a try. If you get lost like we did, walk along the river and go through one of the arches to the left and the restaurant has a red door. I will post a pic of the arch - hopefully this will help!!More
I don't have the habit of writing reviews. But the service in this restaurant led me here today. The food was good. I had a beer and a liver and onion sandwich, which is my delight and this one was a good one. But the...service... When I entered the restaurant, by myself, I saw a table open. But as I saw three tourists coming in behind me, I asked the owner (a man) if sharing tables was a thing. There were only six tables, so I sat down next to a spanish couple so that the other 3 people could sit. I asked if I could order, since my idea was very clear since the start. He informed me that taking the orders was a young woman. This is where the problem starts. She comes and takes the order of the spanish couple next to me. Doesn't take mine, which I understand considering that there was another table in front of me. She takes the order on that one. And then she starts taking the order of the three tourists I gave the table to. As she was passing by me, I just put my hand up and asked if I could order, and I was merely greeted with a finger while she said "Wait". Adding insult to injury, she got to the counter and said that people were very much in a rush these days. I could clearly hear it, and besides I was obviously Portuguese. The only one there, as a matter of fact. When she finally came over, despite her flaunting and righteous attitude, I calmly told her that I understood that she hadn't taken my order when she came to my table - to which she interrupts me and insists on letting me know that there was yet another table in front of me as well -, to which I told her what had happened in the beginning and that I was in front of them and she, nonchalantly, told me she didn't know that that had happened. She didn't know... This is 15x10 meters restaurant. Open space. 6 tables. There were 15 people at the restaurant. And I still heard her mixing up orders at the counter. How does she claim that she didn't realise any of this, is beyond me. So in a few words, I can try and explain: this girl taking the orders is absolutely inept, incompetent, inadequate, unskilled, unfit, and an absolute disgrace. I'm writing this because I didn't hear a single word of apology or even a look of remorse. Just her unregretting and spoiled look. The food was good, but remember that a meal can be spoiled by the most rudimentary unpoliteness. Never again.More
You HAVE TO eat here!! Thd food is out of this world. Fernando is the soul of friendly, good and sincere service. We are going back for another helping soon!! Thank you, Fernando!!
We queued for over an hour and it was worth every second. Such a warm welcoming restaurant. The food was great - nothing fancy! I highly recommend the octopus (I don't even like octopus usually). The owner was so so charming and friendly. Tip: if...there is a big queue and you are 1/2 people, buddy up with the people next to you so you can share a table and get in quicker.More
The food was amazing! Local recipies with very few tourists. We tried the fish dishes and everything was very fresh and good prices.
