If locals eat like this, I envy them. We were looking for a place to eat and a man near the water gave us a few places, but he told us that if we wanted something different and special, go to Picota. It's a little restaurant tucked away on a street. We immediately had bread and olive oil with wine to start as we looked at the menu. Bread tasted fresh and olive oil full of flavor. Two of us ordered the full dourado, and the other two ordered fish, (one being the seas bass),as well. All I know is that the fish we ordered melted in our mouths. My two friends enjoyed their meals, but I didn't really pay attention because I was enjoying mine so much. After we completed our meals, we decided to order the five desserts in the case. Each was homemade. We loved four of them. (The one with rice was not one we would order again.)
Every restaurant we ate at in Portugal offered something unique. Here, the food tasted clean in that the flavors of the fish and vegies and desserts and even the wine was not overpowered by sauces or too much seasoning. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the family made us feel welcomed. We truly felt like we were a special guest in someone's home rather than merely a tourist. And that was THE most memorable experience we had in Aveiro. We were fortunate to run into that man (angel?) by the water who directed us to Picota.

Honestly perfect. First of all, I would give the application a 10, for its usefulness, the site is perfect for someone who wants to eat well with a very familiar service and at a very reasonable price. I haven't been able to give it all the stars because it is not a very large place and the tables are very close together, but making that small sacrifice the place is perfect

You have to wait at the door and go soon to eat because it is on a first come, first served basis without Reservation, but the wait is worth it. The food is great, the price is adequate and the staff very friendly. Family business. The grilled cod we ate was spectacular for 2 people 40 euros. And there are meats too.

We had grilled sea bass for two; the portion wasnt that big, I could have eaten it myself easily. The most baffling thing was the side dish: we ordered vegetables and fried potatoes, and got a couple broccoli and CHIPS. They were like the ones from the bag, and really oily. Upon realizing this is not what we wanted, the waiter brought us some real fried potatoes, but only after we finished with the fish. The fish itself was also too salty.
Such a shame, the food around us looked better and the waiter was really really nice and was very sorry upon realizing our dissatisfaction.

We just had a wonderful homemade meal at a family run restaurant, it was our best meal yet in Portugal. The menu is in Portuguese with a second page to help with translation. We had bread and butter to start, green wine and then grilled cod, potatoes, carrots, turnip tops for greens and olives. To finish our meal we had a delicious homemade chocolate mouse and caramel custard. Our waiter, Paulo, the son of the owners was very gracious and helpful in selection of our food .

Homemade trattoria, few tables reduced menu, affable service, for normal families we recommend the half portion, is very plentiful, we took the grilled cuttlefish and chops of. Bet on grilled meats and fish wisely. "Bottle food" that was ordered: Folded with White Beans - EXCELLENT!
Less traditional but also a Portuguese dish that has been common on Portuguese tables for over 40 years, the Bacalhau com Natas, served in abundance, was very well prepared: well shredded and mixed with diced potatoes, it had adequate moisture (not pasty/dry ), without excess grease.
We ordered a creamy milk, very genuine, properly burnt. The only thing to note is that it is not burnt at the moment, which would have provided the delicate contrast between the cold cream milk and the hot layer.

A success to find this familiar place to eat, we had to wait a while but it is worth it, the friendly staff very close and recommend you whether to order half a portion or whole , for my children, for example, with a portion of grilled steaks they both ate and for us we ordered whole portion of cod cream and half squid, all very good, they serve it so that you do not get cold anything, the soft green wine, very good fresh and the tapa cheese a delight, to say of the desserts, the chocolate mousse looks carries the palm, exquisite you notice the egg white , made as at home and recommended a dessert yolk with cream and cookie that I want more, nothing cloying and very good. A very nice small restaurant where simple and traditional Portuguese recipes are enhanced and make delicious thanks to the simplicity and high quality of the ingredients .
Do not be afraid by the price of each single dishes because portions are huge and even an half portion is bigger than the average in most restaurants .
The staff is extremely kind and their suggestions are appropriate and appreciated.
I growth in a sea village in Italy and I can evaluate the fish: both squids and cod fish was of the better quality.
Try this place. You will not regret the choice

We went to visit Aveiro and found this restaurant. It is small, but great in attention to the diners. We were served by a waitress who was super friendly and did her best to answer all our questions. Truly, it is a pleasure to be treated with such kindness. As for the food, everything was so good. We ordered cod with cream (very good), and Portuguese stew (incredible). When it came to dessert, we had the one with condensed milk and two (because one was impossible given how good it was) with lemon flavored Catalan cream. Super good price.
We really recommend it and from here we sincerely thank you for your fantastic service. If Aveiro were in Cádiz we wouldn't cook anymore.

We went to eat when they were almost closing and they still served us.
We ordered Cod in Cream, a portion and a half for two, and he advised us to order only one for two, which was more than enough. They are honored for their part to advise like this.

Small family-run restaurant with typical Portuguese cuisine. We went here for lunch and had half a portion of creamy cod and half a portion of grilled calamari (the half portions are nice, generous portions). For the wine we relied on the advice of the staff. Really good food and ditto for the wine. Very honest account. Very friendly staff. Advised!

From the street the restaurant seems unassuming. However, the atmosphere inside is warm and friendly. Our waiter took time to provide us with details and descriptions of various items on the menu. One of us had vealstew and the other had pork liver ...both prepared the Portuguese way. Very tasty. We highly recommend!

Friendly welcome in Spanish. Quick preparation of table for two and advice on green wine and dishes: half servings of cod with cream and side salad and beef stew with white rice and chips.
