Upon entry, it's a cute little house with the most beautiful garden and atmosphere that draws you to the door. So quaint and inviting. There are 3 dining areas, inside, a middle terrace that is half in and out and lastly the outdoor terrace which provides lots of shelter from wind. Beautiful hibiscus adorn the dining area to create a calming garden dinner. Staff were sweet and efficient. But, the food is the real star. We started with the tomato pepper soup which burst with flavor. This was followed by yummy homemade bread and butters, lamb chops and sirloin steak. Sides included the perfect mashed potato, fresh veggies and salad. There are more choices to be had but these were ours. Every bite was delicious. We saved room for homemade creme brulee and chocolate ice cream with real whipped cream. Pure bliss. We had the opportunity to meet the very kind chef and owner. Please know my elderly parent thoroughly enjoyed her meal and she usually picks. :-) Totally wonderful. So happy we found your restaurant!!!

One of the few "upmarket" restaurants in Sagres. More expensive than others but quite reasonable for what you get. The menu is extensive and is conveniently in various languages. We had starters on both occasions including a tomato salad, a beetroot salad & mushrooms in garlic. Both times my partner had fish, some of which are on display as you walk in. I had filet of beef first visit and lamb cutlets second visit. All main meals come with two sides from a choice of 7 or 8. The wine list is also long and helpfully lists the grapes in the wine. First visit we had a 100% Merlot from Portugal which was excellent. Second visit we had a Pinot Noir which wasnt. We didnt have dessert but the options were available. Staff are bi-lingual and service was excellent throughout. There is an indoor and covered outdoor seating. Bill on both occasions for 2 starters, 2 Main Meals and a Bottle of wine was just over 90 Euro. Excellent quality food, well presented with good service throughout. Highly recommend.

Four of us enjoyed a faultless dinner. Friendly welcome, smart dining room, great menu with several specials. Our party enjoyed a monkfish/shrimp skewer; tournedos steak; grilled tuna; and pasta with home made pesto. All perfectly prepared and nicely served, and reasonably priced given the quality. We will return.

I have been there to dinner with my two kids (2 and 4 years old), and the experience was not good. I can't complaint in absolut terms, once the food was not bad, but the prices are ridiculous high for what they offer. I felt robbed. Examples: one 100ml soup €6.75, a dessert €7.75, the expresso coffee €3.75. All the main dishes are very expensive and also the wine, especially comparing with other very good restaurants around portugal. Certainly wont return and wont recommend. There are many other better options if you are ok to go to an expensive dinner.

First of all we are very sorry you felt "robbed"..... But happily this is the first time in more then 25 years somebody accuses us of robbing..... The amount of satisfied people coming back for dinner year after year tells us there must be something we do well..... A "100 ml soup" has never been served in Vila Velha! A normal quantity is 250 ml, and in our restaurant we always serve even more then that. Besides, this fish soup is richly filled with a large variety of quality fish, this in contrast to many restaurants where it is filled with bread or noodles........ "A dessert" may cost €7,75..... To start with, in Vila Velha we only serve home-made desserts, in a generous quantity. Banana flambéed with dark rum, served with home made walnut-honey parfait and fresh dark chocolate sauce...... Just "a" dessert.... An espresso does not cost €3,75 ..... That is the price for a Vila Velha coffee; An espresso with coffee liqueur and whipped cream! Anyway, we will not let the joy we get from serving high quality food to happy people, be spoiled by one unreasonable review!!

Felt a little new England, USA, quaint. The food was great. Traditional. Heavy. Lots of oil in every serving. Watch the hidden costs. Tap water is charged. Not a bottled water on the table, tap water in a glass pitcher. If you order appetizers that require bread they will charge you for the appetizers and the bread. Waitress was terribly rude. She ruined our experience. I asked her what my plate came with and she looked at me like I was a child and told me it's in the menu. This is why I gave a 2 star rating. This is a dining experience. It's not always about the food. It's about the experience.

We absolutely loved our evening here! I especially enjoyed the marinated Lamb Chops, they were so delicious as well as the potato and veggie sides. The wine selection was extensive and they helped us to pair a bottle which went great with the Lamb. Can't wait to return!!

Busy little place off the beaten track. We were staying at the Martinhal resort down the road and wanted a change of scenery for our evening meal. A last minute decision that we didn't regret! The host made us feel really welcome despite us not having a booking. She gave us a complementary glass of wine for there been a slight delay with serving our meal. Highly recommend the prawn and monkfish tagliatelle- biggest prawns I've ever seen! Well worth the visit!

Although I´d read some reviews beforehand I didn´t know what to expect really... but Vila Velha was way beyond my expectations. I loved my dinner there. To start with, the place itself is quite nice: sleek and exclusive but simple at the same time, with a local touch in it, it´s not the usual pretentious restaurant. The place has a relaxing and cosy vibe: soft lights and a quiet clientele of middle aged couples mainly, just perfect when you´re trying to avoid crowds and rowdy families. The staff was also great: always on the ball, caring but not overwhelmingly friendly, just in their right point. And the food was simple great: nicely presented, it has a contemporary touch but not exaggerated. Everything was delicious and its soft flavours were rightly combined. Some reviews say that prices are rather high, maybe, but I think it mainly depends on what you order, as it happens in most places. We order everything we felt like, and the bill was really moderate, I´ve had much worse dinners in mediocre places paying much more than in Vila Velha. So, all in all, taking into account the quality of the food, the excellent service, the place and the moderate prices, I reckon I must give them my five points.

We dined here with family, and while the service was friendly, we were surprised by the bill. My wife and I ordered “Today’s Fish,” which was recommended by the waiter and not listed on the menu. While the fish was good, we weren’t informed of the price, and it turned out to be one of the most expensive items. Other family members had salted cod, which was decent but had too little fish compared to the sides. It would be fairer to either inform customers of the price upfront or price the dish closer to the average of other menu items. More transparency would have improved our experience.

Food was good but maybe flattered a bit. Lamb chops excellent but rabbit very over salted. Good attention from staff and good wine recommendation although out of four tables noticed the same wine recommended to half of them. We were there for 2 + hours with six tables occupied on a Friday evening. Chef( chef patron?) came out to thank each table as they paid their bill but ignored us. No problem. They lost our custom for another evening before we left. Just a suggestion if you want to thank customers then either thank all of them or none of them. It’s not as if you were busy. Maybe this is one of the reasons why.

We made a reservation via our hotel & they were expecting us. It was very busy so we were glad we did. It’s just off the main small street if Sagres. The welcome was friendly - wide menu choice & in several languages. We enjoyed good food Portuguese style which we were looking for - authentic and healthy and well made with perfect service. The wine was excellent & very reasonably priced. As is customary the starters come with bread so if you don’t want bread you will need to say. You can order bottled water if you prefer. There are meat, fish vegetarian and vegan options. Plenty of different price points. The ambiance was relaxed with some low lighting. We would have definitely come again but unfortunately for us this was our last night in Sagres.

We visited this restaurant for dinner with 4 adults and 4 children (7 - 11 yrs). We experienced this place as extremely child unfriendly and inflexible. The kids were not allowed to move either inside or outside. According to the owner’s idea, the kids should sit quietly at the table. We left the restaurant before the first order. There are numerous options for a very good, relaxed dinner in Sagres.

Great food with wonderful complementing flavours. Torpedo steak cooked to perfection. Attention to detail in the menu was very evident, with homemade breads, tapenade, aioli and houmous. Chorizo, prawns and tuna in garlic and tomato sauce with creamy mash was so tasty. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend a visit.

A warm welcome, a cosy atmosphere and excellent food and wine. Make sure to try the variety of appetisers - some of the best ham, tapenade, olive oil and home made bread ever tasted. My wife went for the Turbot filet for a main while I went with the King Tiger prawns. Just exceptional. And then finished with crepe, fresh red berries and cream/ice cream.

Good, but way too expensive for what it was. From the outside it looked super fancy, but in the end the food was pretty simple and kind of tasteless. Even I could make better and tastier starters (I had tzatziki, humus and grilled peppers). They do make their own bread though, which was pretty good, I’ll admit. They have obliging and discret staff. But I don’t think they deserve their 4.5 stars. Also, it’s clearly a tourist oriented place.
