Upon walking by (by chance) we decided to eat at Restaurante A Charrete.
I enjoyed a (local?) cabbage stew and we also ordered beef steaks.
The fries were perfect (especially in the Alcobaca-region, they were pale and limp), the meat and stew was great!
We tried a chocolate mousse for dessert, which tasted ok, but looked more like a syrup-like chocolate dish. Perhaps because of the fact it was fridge-ready.
The service felt impersonal, without any more interaction than was needed to order or pay for a dish.

An excellent lunch of pork and lamb neck, very well prepared and which we can accompany with a black mole from the region.

Amazing Dinner! One of the last pearls of this country. A restaurant with identity, taste and a great service from Mr. José Pedro (Owners of the restaurant) who we had the luck and the pleasure of being served. May you continue to do what you know well for many good years!

We got the boiled and stuffed squid in tomato sauce because it was recommended by the waiter. We didnt't know it was boiled bevause the waiter didn't speak English very well. It smelled very fishy and tasted absolutely disgusting. Maybe it is traditional portugese food but won't recommend it to turists. My wife and I had a wonderful lunch today at A Charrette during a day trip to Monchique. The restaurant has a lot of atmosphere, the service was excellent and the food was terrific. We shared entrees of rice with duck (the daily special) and cabbage stew with pork. We chose not to have wine with lunch but reluctantly because the wine list looked so good. As we were eating, our waiter came by to,askus if we’d like more (complementary) cabbage, pork, duck… ! The portions we got were so generous that we declined and left quite full. We highly recommend!

We arrived with a reservation, we waited 15 minutes for us to be seated… with an empty room!!

We had a wonderful dinner here. The place we had hoped to go was closed on Sunday, lucky us! The pork in the oven was tender and delicious and the soup with beans, rice, chestnuts, and much more was out of this world. I am still dreaming about it! The place had a nice feel. All the tables were marked reserved but they kept letting people sit who didn't have a booking. And the reservation tables never showed up so not sure what is up with that but we were happy.

The restaurant has a nice terrace which we think they should use it as much as possible.
The food is great and there are a lot of local dishes in the menu. Special mention for de 'Couve à Monchique' which was very nice. However, the fries of the boar were saltless so we suggest to have a small salt shaker on each table. This would avoid the waiting time for the salt while the dish is on the table.
The service was nice an gentle, but we noticed that as soon as the restaurante got crowded the service time increased too much.
It is not cheap but the price is fair for the food quality.
If we have another opportunity we will visit this place again.

Great restaurant in Monchique, we were worried about eating dinner in the evening at the weekend, as due to lockdown, everything had to shut at 1pm. I found A Charrette on Google maps and emailed asking for possible takeaway. Jose replied very quickly confirming that he could do it and so we ended up ordering on both Saturday and Sunday as the food was so good. We picked it up from the restaurant at the arranged time. We tried Lamb stew, Secretos, Cabbage and pork and Molho sausage dishes and they were all beautiful but the lamb stew was our favourite. Highly recommended. Jose was very prompt with his responses by email and text messages. Would love to sit in the restaurant when lockdown is over.

Lovely Traditional restaurant for local cuisine. The food is very good and at a good price. We had the garlic shrimps starter (large prawns in shells), black pork grilled and prawn mains (languistine).

We loved dining here. Parking was a bit challenging but the staff and food was wonderful. Fresh fish and veggies, lots of good wines to choose from (not just what's on the menu) and all for a very reasonable price. Highly recommended if you are heading to Monchique.
