Great atmosphere and great Italian culture and cuisines

Top notch Italian cuisine. Cozy restaurant, and tasty Italian food. Good red wines straight from Italy and the renowned Prosecco and Lambrusco. The Italian style of the restaurant gives the perfect atmosphere for either lunch and dinner. I recommend the carpaccio and pasta alla parmigiana. Exquisite!

The same as in Italy! Truly excellent cuisine! The pasta is delicious! The meats are truly local and I must say the pizza is the best I've ever eaten here in Holland!

It all felt rushed

We got asked 5 times about our reservation, but when we asked what was wrong they told us nothing was wrong. It all felt very rushed. New customers were ignored to wait on the people who were already seated. When we had finished our meal and we wanted a cup of tea they told us that that was not possible and that we had to leave because there were people who wanted our table in 10 minutes.

We reserved a table for 6 people at 5;30pm. We were quickly given drinks and we asked for some bead. 45 minutes after ordering we received our starters. At 7:30pm we aske where our main courses were, and the waitress said she would check. All around us, tables were getting fed up as their food hadn’t arrived either. We were told that ‘it was coming’, whilst seeing endless delivery drivers walking out with boxes of pizza for home delivery. By 8:30pm we started to get angry and asked where our pizzas were and we were told 10 minutes. At that point we were so hungry we decided to leave. The restaurant charged us full price for our drinks, starters and bread, without any apologies. We’re we’re furious and ended up eating a Burger King at the station. We had travelled 90minutes to go to the restaurant to meet up with family and it was horrible. Don’t go! If you want to eat their food, stay at home and order a delivery. It will arrive in no time! 3 other tables also walked out when we were there!

Outstanding restaurant!

We liked this restaurant so much, we went back twice during our week long stay in Hoorn! The staff was wonderful, particularly our friendly and funny waiter, Giacomo! We loved all the food but we all had to have pasta alla parmagiana on our second outing...amazing! Thank you for the wonderful service and memories!!

Authentic Italian!!!

As an Horenees I was very surprised that I found an Italian restaurant so close from where I live. The food was delicious and so it would almost be superflouis to visit Italy because you could dine like a true Italian right here in Hoorn. Thanks for the great night, xxx father and son!

Great Italian food

Came 5 adults and 4 kids. Food was great. We ordered pizza few kinds of pasta. All was delicious. We really enjoyed and recommended this nice restoration. Price was also very decent.

Forgot our order

The problem with this place is that the takeaway side of the business detracts from the restaurant. The starter was fine but the mains still hadn't appeared after 30 mins. It was obvious that our order had been forgotten. Many apologies from the staff but, it was getting late, so we decided to cut our losses and get the bill. However, the restaurant ignored our several requests for the bill and cooked the meal anyway. We refused to pay for it, paid for the drinks and starter and walked away. The restaurant could have retrieved the situation by offering a discount on the (considerably delayed) main but, sadly, they missed the opportunity.

Mostly pros with slight and almost unnoticeable (though quite "acute") cons: location is a great plus - situated in a quiet alley with tables on the bank of scenic canal; service is good, waiters are nice and attentive (though you may get the feeling that they want you to go away as soon as you finish eating so they could have an empty table for another guests); food is delicious (one big flaw here - we were very surprised to find a sharp kitchen knife under the pizza crust... pretty scary); price is definitely acceptable. Overall - if you visit Hoorn, you can boldly go to Portofino (just check if there is nothing hidden under your food before you start eating).

We have booked the restaurant after reading good reviews on the trip advisor website so we were looking forward to it. I ordered fish on the grill and my partner chose Pasta Parmegiano. We waited more than a hour, no meal, and worse still, there was now only one cook left in the kitchen with his back at the working bench busy flicking off the dirt under his nails. We told the staff that we were going to pay for the only drink we each have been offered in an hour of waiting and call it a day. Rude staff replied to us on a high pitch voice that this is how long it takes because it's fish. I know how much time it takes to cook a piece of fish and a bowl of pasta as I work in a restaurant myself. We just paid the bill. We were not hungry anymore. I am dreading to think how much would you have to wait here for a meal on a busy evening. This was on a quiet Sunday evening at 20.00 o'clock and we were the only table in the restaurant. The guests from the other 2 tables left half an hour earlier. We just wanted a piece of fish and a bowl of pasta but don't worry, there's plenty of other restaurants out there who can do it well And be busy. Not happy

Great italian restaurant

While walking nearby, I saw this restaurant and I feel like eating italian food even if I tend not to eat it outside Italy but I decided to give it a chance. I didn't regret it, totally in love looking how they make and serve the Parmigiana Pasta, it tastes simply amazing! My boyfriend took a pizza and it was so delicious like every proper italian pizza! Lovely place with a very friendly staff.. kind of italian features basically ;) Therefore very recommended restaurant, I would come back there for sure!
