This restaurant is amazing. If you want healthy, non-deep-fried food the Netherlands are a real challenge which is why we were delighted to find this little gem in Alkmaar. Everything was extremely tasty and could be adjusted to the level of spice we could handle. The stuff was very nice and welcoming. We ate here two nights in a row as we loved the food so much. Try the green curry!

I love very spicy food and it's hard to get in the Netherlands. Khunchai did not let us down, however. Lots of chiles in our som tum. And the som tum (one of my favourite dishes) was really nicely prepare - not too sweet and very fresh.

I was asked to visit this restaurant by colleagues who rated it. On first impressions it seemed to be a nice environment, with Thai style decorations and staff in Thai attire. Unfortunately they only had 1 Singha beer in stock, not a good start. Staff seemed to have a bit of an attitude which did not help with my view of the place. But the most important element was the quality of the food, which although was not bad to some Thai restaurants I have visited was no where near the authentic taste of Super Thai which is near by.

I've just completed a month of extreme dining in Thailand in August so in my humble opinion I can compare quiet a lot concerning the food, helpfulness of the personel and so on. I'm from Amsterdam where it is hard to choose a good Thai restaurant since there are so many of them. But here in Alkmaar, there are just a few. And this one is actually very good! So you don't need to look any further.
The restaurant is not so big and if you don't have a reservation you might not be able to have a table between 18.00 and 20.00 o'clock. We didn't make one so we had to wait an hour. Which is no problem with so many nice places to drink just around the corner.
The personel is Thai and equally helpfull and friendly as at many other Thai restaurants.The menu is good, there's something for everyone there.
We had the beef with garlic (Nua Kratiam Prik Thai) and the steamed fish (Planung Manao). I asked for a spicey version of this fish, well they've listened to that request! That is a plus! My friend forgot to ask this for himself, so I suggested him to ask for Prik Nam Pla. And no problem, it was instantly made and served.
Both dishes were amazing. A nice dorade fish on a charcoal pot. It got quiet some attention from others entering and leaving the place.
Another big plus for me is that they play Thai music. That's really creating a pleasant atmosphere! Most other restaurants play middle of the road music which in my opinion they shouldn't do.
Restaurant is very clean, it has an open kitchen so anyone can see the magic that the cooks are showing.
It's pretty much a very well organized restaurant and I can recommend anyone to go and eat there! It's also wheelchair friendly. There's only a one step platform that provides access to the back of the restaurant and the toilets.

Is a small, authentic Thai restaurant in the center of Alkmaar. Staff is very friendly. The quality of the food is outstanding! Worth a visit!

I have been visiting this restaurant for around 15 years and it is always excellent. The interior is cosy and the service always friendly, but what brings me here over and over again is of course the excellent food. Truly good, original, tasty Thai food, prepared virtually in front of you by the skilled chefs! If you are in Alkmaar and fancy a nice, relaxing dinner, come to this place. You won't regret it!!

Excellent service and tasty food although on the pricey side... I love thai food and tried different versions in different countries and continents but this did not make it... I undestand tastes must be sort of "dutchified" but everything tasted the same... I got seafood and my partner chicken. Both in the same sauce... starters were nice though...I would give it another chance but keeping my hopes low...

This restaurant provided us with the best meal in our time in the Netherlands and it was the nicest Thai meal I have ever tasted. So good in fact that we will return here when we come back to the area.

I work in Alkmaar and visit this restuarant once a week. The Pad Thai is amazing as are their tofu dishes. Friendly staff and pleasant decor.

A group of 4 of us ate dinner here in April 2016 after a recommendation from the hotel we were staying in.
It didn't disappoint. All the dishes had authentic Thai flavours, as well as a good level of spice. The prices are pretty reasonable too for the Netherlands.
This is amongst the better Thai restaurants we have eaten at in the Netherlands and a real surprise to see such a place up in Alkmaar.
Highly recommend to fans of Thai cuisine in the area.

Last sunday, 27-3-2016, for the second time in one month. Still the same friendly staff and with a great sense of humor. Delicious and authentic taste Thai food. Was great to be back and not for the last time.

First time at Khunchai and great! Nice friendly staff. For a Thai restaurant reasonable price and good food. Real Thai taste and good portions. Advise to reserve a table, certainly in weekend. Starter advise : fish-cookie

From the outside it looked closed but luckely it was open :). We were here for diner with 4 persons and did not made a reservation.
The menu offers a lot of choice, so it was difficult to make a choice but in the end we made it :).
The food was really great, we all had something different but all dished were perfectly cooked and served.

The restaurant is located in the old town centre of Alkmaar and is a cosy little place. We had a sate, chicken soup with vegetables, two curries and mixed vegetables in oyster sauce. The food was good tasty meal, not spectacular but of really good quality. It didn't come cheap, with 18 euros for a main course, 7 for the first course and 9 for the side dish. Curries were the best, deep and refined of taste. The sate was somewhat too sweet and the vegetable side dish somewhat too uncooked for our taste, but tastes differ. Service was friendly. A good place to go.
