Went here by accident while walking in the streets which was a good accident! Almost all day we were looking for a gelato place which has the gelato under cover (have heard that those are better one’s) and the by accident we found one!! Good service in English and the price rant was good not too expensive even though the location is in a crowded tourist area. Also the flavours were really good and fresh. Would definitely recommend to go here instead of other Venice gelatories.

Fantastic Gelato - OK, we only tried about 4 places, but we disagree with the TA rating system having this shop in the lower half of the ratings. The cost was among the lower rates we paid, texture was outstanding and the flavours were creative - salted caramel and passion fruit. Also, the 2 young people serving were super nice (and spoke great English).

It was definitely worthwhile getting lost in the alleyways of Venice in search of fabulous well priced gelati, Gelateria Gallonetto was just what we were looking for. The queue out the front was fortunately short and it wasn't too long that we were inside this small establishment. There were fifteen flavours of gelati and one yoghurt to choose from, for us it was easy, Pistachio for my significant other, for me the Cioccolate Fondente and Fior de Latte. Stunning. The gelati was delicious, soft and creamy and full of flavour. If only we had enough time to revisit. Grazie Mille.

The best ice cream I've ever had. Well, gelato, but you know what I mean. It's so soft and tasty and creamy that your mouth waters by just watching it being served. The chocolate is intense but not overwhelming and the 3 flavours we tasted were just amazing. We are coming back for sure. Probably more than once

Very yummy premium gelato experience in Venice. We waited in line for about 30 minutes but my wife read all the reviews and she said it "would be worth it". We'll, it was! Very creamy, fresh, natural tasting gelato. A few of us got the pistachio, stracciatella, mango, amarena (black cherry) and tiramisu flavors. All were awesome. Extra shout outs for the pistachio, stracciatella and amarena flavors!!! Great after dinner dessert place, reasonably priced too. See pics.

Overrated and disappointing. Having enjoyed some excellent gelato in Rome and Florence, this place definitely does not live up to its ratings. After waiting in an extremely long queue, alarm bells rang when a previous customer laughed at the queue and asked us why we were waiting, since they have tried it and the product is not good, and there is a better place just around the corner. When we reached the front of the queue we were very surprised not to see any gelato on display, with all flavours covered in lids. We have never seen this before in an authentic gelatetia. I ordered a cherry gelato and a Tiramisu (usually a favourite of mine). The Tiramisu was completely lacking in flavour, with no hint of coffee or trace of biscuit. If blindfolded, it would be impossible to name the flavour. The cherry had some flavor, but was not particularly enjoyable. Give this place a miss if you want actual flavour in your gelato!

Best ice in Venice, don’t go anywhere else, it’s completely overpriced! While a scoop of ice costs 2,5€ in other places which also looks like they produced their ice in a science lab completely artificially, a scoop of ice at this place is only 1,8€. When you take 2 3€ and 3 for 4€ so 1,33€ per scoop. That’s amazing! That’s why we came there multiple times per day and ate over 10 scoops. The ice is delicious, doesn’t look artificial and the scoops are a decent size. People are very friendly, and also very important: They don’t touch your cone / waffle! 🥰 Other places handle the dirty money and then smear all the germs on your ice cone but here it’s only touched with a little paper in between. That’s really good! In a nutshell 10/10, already recommended for friends, please keep everything that way, also the prices. If a scoop would have been 2,5€ I would have bought maybe one but because of the good price We together bought like 15-20 scoops. 👌🏻 The only thing that would be cool would be more flavors to choose from (I would love to have more fruity flavors like ananas, apple, maracuja, pomegranate or sth like that) but since the space is limited that might be hard. ;) Or I would have needed a membership card where you buy 10 scoops for 12€ or sth like that and then have even more discount for the big amount of ice 😅

They tell you to stay away from the gelateria with all their gelato on display, so we went looking for an authentic gelateria…and found this. The line on a super hot Monday afternoon stretched halfway down the block and we waited in line for 20 minutes but it was 100% worth it. I’ve eaten a lot of gelato and this was the best gelato I have ever eaten. Bravo.

This gelato is FANTASTIC. When looking for the perfect gelato I always make sure it’s not in heaping piles and has bright colors. This place has the gelato down in containers with lids so I already knew it was going to be fantastic. The prices were great and the taste was incredible (so good my family and I went back the next night for seconds lol). The line was long but moved very quickly. This place is a grab and go, so there are no chairs inside. The flavor options were also great!! Overall I highly recommend :)

We ended up coming here several times on our visit. Everyone we brought enjoyed their gelato! This also was the only Gelateria I could find in Venice that had gelato in metal tubs with a lid (rather than the big fluffy pillows of 'ice cream' that have been whipped full of air). Pistachio was great, as was the strawberry, chocolate, the special flavour with peanuts, the lemon sorbet... There is no place to eat inside, so be prepared to stand on one of the side streets or take your ice cream with you as you walk.

Absolutely worth the wait! At Gelateria Gallonetto, the hustle and bustle only adds to the charm. Despite the crowd, the service was impressively attentive and efficient. I highly recommend the Pistachio and Crema flavors—they're truly sublime. The staff's friendliness amidst the busyness made our gelato experience even more delightful. A must-visit for any gelato lover!

The absolute best passion fruit gelato - tasted like I was eating the actual fruit. I was only in Venice for two nights; I went back the second night for a double scoop of passion fruit! And the best gelato out of all the gelato places I frequented during my travels through Venice, Rome and Sorrento.

Gelataria Gallonetto is IMO the best Gelateria in Venice. They keep each different flavour of ice cream in a different container and even use a separate spoon per container. This is really helpful if you have allergies, so as to not cause cross-contamination. My daughter has allergies to dairy, eggs and nuts, which means that she is generally limited to non-dairy ice cream alternatives and anything that does not have nuts. May of the ice cream shops had open containers and shared spoons, which meant that there was cross-contamination of nuts and dairy in flavours that should not have nuts or dairy. The flavours of their ice creams is also exceptional. I would highly recommend visiting them during your stay in Venice.

My goal whenever visiting Italy is a gelato every day, I always meet the goal and often exceed it! We went to Gallonetto twice in one day even though it was a 20 minute walk and we passed several other places along the way. Delicious gelato and friendly staff.

As one who considers myself an ice cream and gelato connoisseur, I read with interest reviews on the best gelato in Venice. My favorite gelato in the world is Vivoli in Florence, and I’ve never found any that compares. After a long wait in line at Gallonetto, I will rate it good but certainly not spectacular. Had I known in advance, I would not have waited in a long line on a Sunday.

Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
