Brilliant welcome from the owners at this exceptional bar - we visit every year in summer, and they really welcome us back each time. The owners take real pride in the quality and provenance of the food and drinks, with a strong focus on local...products, and taking the time to explain where they are sourced. They are great at giving samples to try, from the aperitivos (which are very tasty), the drinks (this time we were treated to various versions of Americano cocktails and vermouths, with explanations to accompany each). We ask questions about the produce, and they take real pride in advising where it is from. The food, drinks and service are all excellent, and emphasised by the large number of locals who come to the bar regularly - they know the best places to go. This is more of a locals bar than a tourist bar, as it is not right on the lakefront - though is also used by some tourists who are in the vicinity. But it is all the better for that in my view. Real Italian, real people, real appreciation of our visit and great to spend time there.More
You probably won't come here for the view (it's not ugly, just not a lot to see!) but it's a lovely bar with really freindly staff and a great range of drinks. decently priced & although we didn't eat there the portions looked plentiful and...tasty.More
This is my kind of bar - mostly locals, which I see as a good sign, with a few tourists who leave the normal tourist area. The hosts, Robbi and Tatti, are so welcoming and are locals themselves (Baveno and Stresa), so are great to...talk to about local history, events, options to eat etc. The beer and wine comes with their suggestions, and we were introduced to some beautiful wines. The bar itself is traditional style, and there’s a great selection of classic rock played low in the background, to add to my “likes”. I’d also highly recommend the food - based on the burgers and steak we had - beautifully cooked and tender meat, with crispy chips on the side. We heard one lad at another table also say that his burger was “awesome” so it wasn’t just us. The locals are all friendly and say ciao once they knew us too. We can’t thank Robbi, Tatti and staff enough for the excellent service and for looking after their customers (including us, now that we are “regulars”), and for sharing a beautiful Franciacorta with us on our last night - fantastic. Oh, and they’re also big football fans, so have some great chats on that too.More
Popped in for a drink and received a very warm welcome. Served excellent bottle of wine too. Just off the main road by the station. Certainly worth a visit. We didn't have anything to eat but menu looked good.
Nice place to drink very good typical italian wines and cocktails. You can also have good meals. Recommended!
Walk past the church to the back of the town and you will find the Locomotive bar in front of the train station. Good beer and friendly locals, sorry we didn't find it earlier.
Baveno has a large number of restaurants lining the main street that runs along Lago Maggiore. There is one restaurant slightly off the beaten path that is worth seeking out- Locomotive VM. It is located just a few steps down from the train station. We...decided to try dinner because, on a Saturday night, the place was loaded with locals enjoying happy hour appetizers. The appetizers were outstanding, and the drink options were unique offerings of brands and types you won't likely find along the lakefront. But the best part for us was dinner. They have a printed menu of course, but be adventurous and order off the chalkboard- you won't regret it when you get gourmet dishes prepared with local foods. The owner can tell you exactly how to get to the farm where your pork or beef was raised. The staff loves what they do, and they put the effort into knowing absolutely everything about the food and drink they offer. Or you can go sit by the lake and eat ravioli. But I'll be up the street with the crowd at Locomotive.More
This place is hopping on the weekends and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They speak at least German, English and Italian. There is bar food but we just had drinks. Fun area and nice people.More

This place made a nice change to the frontside bars and restaurants. Some nice local beers on tap with really nice staff. Didn't have food but the burgers looked massive.
Grazie!è stato un piacere avervi come ospiti nel nostro locale. Spero rivedervi presto. Arrivederci da tutto lo staff;)
Locomotive is a great spot for a drink, dinner or both. Roberto and the team are passionate and knowledgable abiut the menu and wines/beers and really welcoming and friendly. Great to find a menu on Lago Maggiore to offer simething a little different too and...a good location right next to Baveno station. It is mainly populated by locals but extremely welcoming to tourists, giving you the feeling of having discovered something great away from the lake front. We will definitely go back!More
Grazie infinite, siamo contenti che vi sia piaciuto il nostro locale, spero rivedervi presto,un saluto da tutto lo staff.
We were sent here by the proprietor of our B&B. We ended up there two nights over the course of four days. What a delightful find! Not to our surprise, we were the only tourists in the place. The reception was warm and welcoming. The..."special" Negroni was spectacular and involved products of which I was totally unaware. The gargantuan burger (300g) with bacon and cheese was as good as they get. The not-on-the-menu steak was perfectly cooked and accompanied with fries that were superior. Roberto is very knowledgable about wines and steered us to some local offerings that were tasty and a very good value. He also navigated us to some local digestifs, previously unknown to us, which were delightful. We could not possibly have had more fun.More

A bit off the beaten track and a bit trendier than some of the other bars. Good tapas and not as expensive as other hotels
