My wife and I spent two weeks in Europe and this was the worst food experience we had during that entire time. We arrived in Varenna late afternoon and after a long train and ferry ride into town we were excited to spend our first...night in Italy lakeside with good food. The food was disappointing, with the bruschetta having no oil or balsamic present and a scant amount of herbs. My wife ordered risotto, which ended up being tasteless. I order veggie tagliatelle, expecting fresh vibrant vegetables but instead was met with mushy vegetables that appeared to simply be microwaved. Beyond the food, the candle on the table was blowing off an extremely bad gas order and the whole place was extremely understaffed, causing us to wait long periods and the server to act is if we were a problem for existing. I mention the server comment fully aware that service is different Europe as compared to the USA, but I've been to Europe 10 times and this was one of the three worst service experiences I've had during those times.More

Horrible service, racist staff talking about foreigners pretty badly. They will yell at you for their mistakes, and a table next to us complained that their food came very late (we came after and were served before), the waiter told them, ok bye and took...the food back...basically kicked them out. Our visit to this place was completely ruined by a rude and extremely repulsive waiter, who claimed to be a manager when I asked to speak to the person in charge. It turned out that he was not a manager and his behaviour while talking...to us was absolutely disrespectful. This was the worst experience I have had, and I will never come back to this place again and never recommend it to anyone visiting Varenna.More

Amazing food and the best service. Waiter was so nice as was the food. Perfect soo to watch the sunset on the lake which topped off a lovely evening

We ate pizzas and pastas which were really delicious but unfortunately onemof the pizza was really overcooked that is why i have 4 points for this pleace otherwise i would be 5

Best view. You pay 7EU per person cover charge for the view. The food was way worse than a few years ago. Tomato bruschetta was barely edible. Stale bread; chopped tomato with nothing in it (no vinegar, no oil, no onion or garlic) and one...basil leaf. The tomato seemed freshly diced. Rice bowl with smoked salmon: black rice cooked Al dente. Not the best quality smoked salmon (lox). Sweet raspberries. Some avocado. Poppy seeds that just got lost in the puddles of oil. Way too much oil. Dish was mostly oily rice. Ate the "junk" and left most of the rice. Food took a long time to arrive. Enjoyed the view while waiting. Discovered very expensive restaurants further along the lakefront promenade. Had dessert in one of them and it was perfect. Would not return to bar Il Molo; would try a more expensive restaurant in quieter location if I ever return to varenna.More

Waited long time for our food , longer than those that came later than us. They almost finished when our food arrived. We we need to follow up many times and when asked about our food the server snapped at us and told us that...it is coming, she was annoyed.More

Beautiful location and gorgeous outdoor seating. Shame that my pizza came inedible (the tomato base was stone cold and the cheese hadn’t even melted). There is clearly a food poisoning risk in this restaurant. When I asked to get it cooked longer, the same pizza...came back 10 minutes later burnt. In addition the drinks we ordered at the start came after the meal, which wasn’t very enjoyable. The staff did not apologise or attempt to rectify the inconvenience in any way. The restaurant is very busy and obviously understaffed.More

We had lunch outside on the upper terrace overlooking the lake. We were initially told fairly abruptly that the restaurant was full and the terrace wasn’t open yet so we kept walking. As we returned a waiter was opening the terrace so we joined the...small queue and were seated quickly. The location is amazing, the staff were friendly and the drinks and food were good too. We had a beer each and cheese and ham panini. Fair price for the location. If you can get a table you won’t be disappointed.More

Great location for a drink! Jazz band playing on Friday evening. Wine is lovely. Ate here once and the food really was quite poor, not somewhere I’d go for food again.
