On the way to the Pantheon, you would pass Fortunato Al Pantheon. We had heard of this restaurant before leaving home and made reservations to eat there during our stay in Rome. What a pleasant surprise, from the very attentive and helpful staff to the...mouth watering food. The interior is more on the upscale side with cloth napkins and tablecloths to the slow and unrushed service. The first night we ordered rigatoni carbonara with black truffles and spaghetti vongole (clams). The food was scrumptious and ample in size. The truffles were sufficient and there were at least 20 clams in the dish. The next time, several nights later, we had the tuna tartare appetizer, the best I have ever eaten, anywhere, the spaghetti vongole again and calamari. Once again, the atmosphere was unrushed and delicious food. Whereas this restaurant is a bit more pricey, it is worth the slight difference.More

Six years had passed between our Rome visits and with only one day to spend in the city on our way to a Med cruise we booked a table for dinner here. It didn't let us down in 2015 and it was 100 yards from...our hotel by the Pantheon. At the end of October it was still warm enough to sit outside and enjoy a view of the Pantheon as we dined. On a Wednesday night at 8 pm the restaurant was doing business indoors and out. They have lost a small dining room which has been taken over by a neighboring business (not a restaurant) but I imagine with the pandemic this was a good decision to sustain the business. Service was friendly and brisk and involved 3 people. The food isn't spectacular but is reliable, simple Roman cooking. No plating with tweezers therefore. Bread comes to the table without asking and each person charged 2 Euros. We like crusty Italian bread so it was welcome. Mineral water @ 5E for a large bottle, a glass of Pinot Grigio @ 12E. Appetizers- I had the Calamari and fried anchovies, a 24E dish while my partner had a huge artichoke (Carciofo Romano) @ 12E. She wolfed it down with delight as she had been dreaming of it on the flight from the USA. We skipped the pasta dishes as we had enjoyed the budget friendly Roman classics at Tonnarello in Travestere for lunch and therefore ordered our entrees; My veal Saltimboca, superb at 20 E and her Filet alla Rossini (Filetto Manzo Pepe) with a peppercorn sauce for 28 E. You can see how a bill can climb here... Without a pasta course we could fit in a dessert. For me that meant a Sambuca Romano @ 7 E and a double espresso at @6 E. Madame had a Torta di Ricotta with sour cherries @ 10 E. Good people watching sitting outdoors, pleasant and efficient staff. The head waiter brought us complimentary Limoncello to round off our meal and we paid our bill of 128 Euro before tip.More

Very good food and ambiance; great service. We had an assortment of food—all was good! I especially enjoyed the Cacio e Pepe with truffle. Wine list by the glass was extensive with many good options. Fresh seafood options available too. A few thoughts: -I was...a bit hesitant to book here because there were quite few mediocre reviews. Don’t be dissuaded; those are not representative. -Only a few tourists at dinner when we went (maybe because off season). -Nice jeans were fine to wear (we were a little concerned we would be underdressed). -Booking available online, which makes it easy!More

It's been two years since I was home to Rome, and this was one of the places on my list to go back to. Friendly service, white tablecloths, good food, and since we were sitting outside, a slice of the Pantheon in my view (and...a man singing opera down the street). My wife had pasta with wild boar ragu, I had the Saltimbocca with spinach, and we ended the meal with a shared zuppa inglese. All was excellent. It's good to be back!More

Excellent food just a few meters away from the iconic Pantheon. Da Fortunato offers refined Italian cuisine. Grilled radicchio, as a salad, is an excellent dish. Both spaghetti and meat are very well cooked. Very good wine list from all over the Italian vineyard. 100%...professional waiters.More

We booked this through our hotel which I would not do again since the restaurant has an easy online system that we should have used instead. We loved our dining experience here- we had a table outside with a view of the Pantheon, excellent food...and professional service. I would highly recommend this restaurant over one of the ones right on the Pantheon. You get the full experience but simply much better food.More

What started out to be a great meal ended abruptly when the woman behind me with a Louis Vuitton purse stole my bag with my phone and credit card that was under my table by my feet. She innocently dropped her sweater next to my...chair, and reached under and snagged my simple long champ bag under her sweater, then put it in her backpack and took off. She never ordered anything to drink or eat, and I felt like the restaurant should’ve been on to her. Some Americans behind me said they thought the woman was suspicious. I’m not convinced the restaurant wasn’t involved in the scam either. Be very careful because they ask you if you want to come and look at the fish that they’ll be serving. After I quickly discovered my bag had been lifted, the restaurant insisted that I go to the police station and had someone walked me there which was kind. In hindsight though, I think they might have been just allowing the woman time to go and use the credit cards before I could get them canceled. The woman put a $1200 charge on one of the cards at a bar on a Sunday night at 9 PM. My suggestion to anyone reading this, is to leave your phone and passport in your hotel room and only carry one credit card with you in your front pocket. I wore a dress that night, and didn’t have any place to put my phone except in a bag. I really feel like the pickpockets target Americans who really stand out, and maybe even follow them to the restaurants, and wait for them to get busy with the menus etc., and then plan on how they will take a bag etc. My friends stayed behind and said the food here was very good. Just be careful at this place near the pantheon as it’s prime for stealing your items.More

This place was highly recommended to us and after dining there it’s easy to see why. Amazing location right by the Pantheon, the tortellini and cacio e pepe were incredible, and amazing service. A bit pricier but well worth it - Will definitely return again!
