Loved this place - arrived on a Saturday night - it was bustling and full - and greeted by el Jefe with enormous enthusiasm about all his fish. Good local wine by the glass and some quite excellent prawns in garlic. Very good value as well. A good example of how atmosphere can make a meal perhaps as we've been staying at the Parador where the food is ambitious but the atmosphere in the dining room a bit like that of a morgue.

It was over the road from our hotel so very convenient (we had spent the day flying and ferrying from the UK so were not up for a long walk) For once it paid off to be lazy as the food was excellent. We started with a tomato, onion & garlic salad and baby squid, followed by a huge mixed fish platter. We tried to do the platter some justice but we failed, there was simply too much fish (about 5 different types, and one for each of us!). We washed it all down with a few glasses of local white wine. Service was polite, prompt and as we sat outside the atmosphere was very local. We recommend this place highly. (Ps, our bill came to about 60euro)

Very good local restaurant in the back streets of San Sabastian in La Gomera. It felt very authentic. The service was friendly and they understood about being gluten free. We went with friends on a Saturday lunchtime/afternoon, we had a lovely leisurely afternoon and had Paella which was delicious and the perfect size for 4 of us. We would definately go back and would recommend to others.

One star is actually too much for the experience we had. Initially made welcome we were seated and gave our orders. The problem started when the young waiter literally threw my starter onto the table. He didn't even stop as he walked by and made no attempt to place the starter in front of the person actually eating it. The starter was Gomeran cheese and it was pretty poor. Half a dozen slices of one style of cheese slapped on the plate with no dressing. Things got worse when the same ignorant clown came back with our paella. We seemed annoyed that the starter and bread plates were still on the table and just tried to push them out of the way with the paella plate. At that point I had to tell him to stop or the plates would have ended up in our laps if we hadn't moved them ourselves. The paella itself was one of the worst plates of food I have ever seen in a restaurant. The beef was completely inedible, the chicken was just scrag ends of bone with no meat and the mussels were shrivelled and dry. At that point we decided enough was enough and called the older waiter and told him how poor things were. He just shrugged. We paid for our wine and starter and left. Such a shame as our other food experiences on the island were excellent.

A very good meal on a busy Sunday night. We sat inside as the terrace (pavement) was full. This is a very quirky building, very rustic but serving excellent food. We started with Garlic Bread with Serrano Ham & Tomato, plus the local Gomerian Goats Cheese Spread 'Almogrote', which was to Spicy for Mrs.B. We also had an unordered Bread Roll (@ €1), so we had plenty to start with. We both ordered Solomillo de Cerdo a la brass (Roasted Pork Steak) plus a Mushroom Sauce & a Roquefort Sauce, & with Canarian Potatoes for our mains. Wow, what a Yummy meal, oh so full, & topped off with Honey Rum Shots & with the bottle left on the table for seconds/thirds. This was an excellent meal & we highly recommend this place. Plus value for money, only €36.75.

Great character small restaurant in central San Sebastián tastefully decorated inside (don’t worry about how it looks from the outside!). Fantastic menu of fresh fish - you could revisit 5 times and have different fresh fish each time. Incredibly good value - even for non touristy La Gomera. Whole fresh fish with sides for euro 10-12! Enjoy like we all did!

We chose this restaurant because of the good reviews and were very disappointed. The shrimp for starters and the fish were unfortunately cooked for far too long and therefore tough, and the tomato salad had no dressing at all. The service was unfriendly and made little effort to communicate with non-Spanish speaking guests. The food was therefore placed on the table without a word. Given the large selection of restaurants in San Sebastián, we would not go here again.

It is a restaurant with everything: typical Canarian food, pizzas, pasta, chicken... and everything very, very rich. Perfect value for money. Very, very friendly and professional staff. They were the only ones who allowed us to make Reservation (there were many of us) and we made no mistake because it was all delicious. We ate on the terrace (street) and it was phenomenal. The inside is a very decorated living room here; it is not a luxurious place, it is a humble place with very good food and perfect attention.

It is the first time I make a bad review but I think it is fundamental for other visitors. The smell of fritanga on the door was not a good sign, we ordered several things from starters, everything had a bitter taste of the past oil, but when we arrived at the fish we were served a bad fish, an old one that when we claimed it came to tell us that the old one at this time of year has the hard meat... Anyway, without wanting to argue, we paid the bill and left. PD: OS I attach the photos with the restaurant cockroaches

Utterly disinterested service, didn’t bring bread etc but charged for it. Lunch was execrable, I think the fish had been cooked the day before quite frankly, dry, no sauce, three sad potatoes, wilted salad. Woman serving us looked as if she wanted us to die. Please save your well earned cash and do not go here. Ended up buying chocolate peanuts in Spar opposite as still hungry.

It is famous for its rabbit. We will order three portions of Françoise, some chops and I will order a round of pasta. The rabbit is dry pasta without much flavor, but we chose a good wine. At the end of the meal the waiter brings us a bottle of grappa and five glasses.

Very unfriendly service throughout the meal. The opposite to all the places we have eaten in Tenerife and La Gomera, where hospitality and good treatment are always present. Things were brought to you late and unwillingly after arriving to order them 3 times (bread, spoon, other water...). Expensive food for the low quality it offers. We were not satisfied at all. Unbearable heat inside the premises that also the cleanliness shone through its absence.

The review refers to the "TAPAS Y MAS", which is located across the street and, as we discovered, also belongs to "El Pajar". The tapas bar has a small outdoor area, which was well attended during our visit at lunchtime. The service staff were extremely friendly and efficient, and the food we ordered was served quickly. We opted for the "chickpea stew", which tasted excellent but was unfortunately lukewarm. The bread was fresh, and the two mojo sauces that went with it were OK. The other dishes eaten by other guests also looked appealing, and overall the guests seemed satisfied. This place is definitely recommended for a small snack at lunchtime.

We ate here for lunch on our first day and the only reason we didn't return for every meal was that we were determined to eat in as many different places as possible. Great local food, friendly service and a nice happy atmosphere. Will definitely be our first stop when we return to La Gomera. Highly recommended.

Struggling to find tapas in San Sebastian we came across this place right opposite our hotel (the recommended Torre del Conde). It looked a bit dingey with a small door revealing little of the interior but I thought that might be in keeping with being a locals place ... As it transpired, the tapas promoted on the blackboard outside was just a choice of starters. I combined green peppers, tuna croquettes and giant prawns in garlic sauce which didn't really work the way I wanted. I've had far better tapas at home in Yorkshire! My son had an average pizza. The service was pretty cold. We'd probably have been better off not trying to be clever and sticking to the more touristy restaurants round the corner.
