Despite the restaurants best initial efforts to spoil our evening, we ended up with an overall favourable impression. We had booked an early table two weeks in advance and on walking in on time at 1800 on Saturday, the surly dark-haired waitress pointed us to a seat away from the main empty tables and situated between the toilets and the main exit. Way to make guests feel special! It was -12 degrees centigrade (10.3 degreed fahrenheit) outside so we pushed back against this rather charmless offer. Thankfully her colleague Silvio suggested a better situated table as long as we left by 2030. Rather than go back into the freezing cold we opted to stay and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and wine. Silvio recommended a number of wine pairings, all local, and they went excellently with the local food. The fillet steak was exquisite and the maultaschen and spätzle was delicious. My wife polished off her portion of Kaiserschmann in record time. London does not have much of a German food offering beyond the often pitiful Steins in Kingston, a pale shadow of very good local fare in many regions in Germany. Maybe a hole in the market that The Rote Hirsch could easily fill?

The restaurant is located off the beaten path, so you would have to know it was there. We reserved a table, which was probably sensible as the restaurant was busy even for a Tuesday evening. We sampled the local beers, this being the wheat beer and craft ale which were great. The food also lived up to the high standards, we had the braised beef with onions and cheese as well as the pork schnitzel. The wait staff were extremely helpful and even provided an English menu which was a help!

I had dinner in these restaurants during a short stay in Stuttgart. There is a waitress who also speaks Italian, and she immediately made us feel comfortable, but the rest of the staff was also very courteous. The menu offers several traditional Swabian dishes, we opted for sausages with potato salad and a kind of cutlet with Spätzle, all very good and well prepared. Prices are average, I would recommend it for an informal evening and would definitely return.

Rather nice restaurant and decent food. We had pulled pork burgers and risotto (wheat, not rice....we are too weak in German). The meal goes well, large quantities. So why an average rating? We go to the checkout, we are told the amount (without showing the details). We pay, without being shocked by the amount, we are given the details (after paying) and we leave. Back in the car, we look at the bill and surprise, 2 dishes (for more than 16€) were added to our bill. We were already far away and we did not return to report it. I don't know if it's intentional or if it's a "mistake" but a word of advice, don't be like us, check your bill before paying. It left us with a bitter taste...

We were a group of 6 people and it was our first time at Roter Hirsch for lunch. Most of us chose the original lunch dish or a vegetarian alternative. The portion sizes were large and the spaetzle was served in a small bowl with the jus. The meat was cooked tenderly. Requests for changes were accepted. We stayed until 2:45 p.m. and felt very comfortable.

Really very good food, and normal prices. I had to deal with two of the staff, a very young girl, pretty and always smiling, the other who also spoke Italian very easy going and very sincere, telling us not to overdo it because the portions were abundant, and in fact that was the case, portions very abundant. Excellent cleaning. Highly recommended

The salad was good, as was the elderflower spritzer. The food, however, did not live up to expectations. The dumplings were greasy and tasteless. The red cabbage was completely inadequate and the duck breast had nothing to do with pink. And the worst thing was the looks from the waiters when we hadn't finished our plates. I was really happy, but unfortunately never again.

After the Red Deer was one of my favorite places for a long time, I unfortunately have to cross it off this list after my visit with a friend yesterday. The Aperol Spritz was nothing more than a "mineral water spray". The pulled pork in the burger was cold, as was the shredded. For dessert there was only half a portion of Kaiserschmarrn. The service was very unprofessional: The waiter interfered in conversations without being asked, did not respond to the bell of the kitchen and ignored complaints. Instead of replacing the Aperol Spritz after my friendly complaint, the same aqueous drink was served again. In the past, the red deer was really good – those days are probably over. What a shame!

Beautiful restaurant! The decor is rustic and modern mixed. The staff was really attentive, very friendly and extremely professional. The dishes we ordered were on the one hand incredibly well cooked and also presented very nicely. You can tell that the ingredients are consciously and thoroughly selected. The drinks menu also leaves nothing to be desired. Here, as with everything, attention is paid to regionality. The location on a small market square without traffic, with a fountain is very quiet and cozy. All in all absolutely recommended!

Very chic, cozy restaurant. Friendly, attentive staff. For dinner I chose chestnut soup as a starter. For the main course there was duck breast with dumplings and red cabbage. Very well prepared and tasted great. The barman recommended some great wines and a gin. Great restaurant, would love to come back.

Easy to book online. Good menu including traditional Schwaebisch food and delicacies such as venison and duck. I had the Maultaschen soup followed by the Butterschnitzel and Spaetzle. All very delicious and unlike a lot of German food I have had not at all salty. My meal was washed down with local beer, Dinkelacker, in a Stein. Old fashioned perhaps but to me gave the restaurant a certain edge. Nice decor and friendly staff. I also liked that as I was on my own my food came quickly. Price was reasonable. Will definitely return if opportunity arises.

Located on the old market square. Nice food and very friendly service. And reasonably priced too. In the weekend you might want to book ahead as this place fills up pretty fast.
