Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Tried it out, foods good, not flashy but tastes good and looks good. It's pub food but nice, almost more like mum would have made

This place is pumping out very nice pub meals at a great price. family of 4 can dine for under $60 no trouble and the service is friendly and fast. we went on Friday night and there were quite a few people there but the...meals still came out pretty quick. there was a wee mishap with a drink but they were very apologetic and gave us a credit which they didn't have to do. we will be back.More

Dated pub style cafe attached to a motel. Service was slow with one staff member on duty. Waited 15 minutes between first meal out and the last of four. Pot of tea was bitter, French toast was oily, chicken breast was dry, potato hash was...deep fried to a dark brown and the hollandaise was from a packet. Certainly not worth what we paid for.More

We had previously dined here in October 2017 and thoroughly enjoyed our meal but alas things were very poor this time and we will not return. We waited for forty minutes to have two Burgers buns not toasted, the beef burger was of a sloppy consistency...,I had the chicken burger which was average.More

The same four seniors have been lunching at the cafe for some years. The previous owners were excellent and we have given very good reviews in the past. This is our first visit under the new management. Two had big Breaky - very good. Two...had Pistachio Chicken Salad - satisfactory (the lettuce was not Iceberg or similar and Camembert cheese shown on menu was absent). Coffees and milk shake good. We would go there again.More

Yes, Huntly is a grotty town but no reason to not stop . Strange to see photos of UK Essex houses on the wall having once lived in Essex. Very quiet Sunday morning but it was clean and good service for just a quick coffee...stop.More

Well I think Huntley wins my award for the grottiest place in NZ. The map would suggest it was a pretty little town along side the river. It isn’t. Came here as the coffee place was shut for several weeks. Very average. How do you...make scrambled eggs grey?! Coffee was good and kids meal came with enough frozen chips to feed 4. Friendly staff but I wouldn’t come back by choice.More

We came across this place for lunch I ordered nachos hubby had bacon and eggs. My nachos were nice but not fantastic. They had pickes in them which i had never had and they was not enough mince mix in my books. Hubby bacon was...great but the eggs were over cooked and rubbery. Would think twice before going back as it was expensive for what one got.More

Usually we are on long haul of 6-7 hour trips and don't detour into Huntly, but on this short trip through to Hamilton we thought we would, stop off for a coffee. First choice was closed, so carried on a little further down the main...street to find the Odd Spoon Cafe, which is part of the Essex Arms Hotel complex. A bad decision, and we should have turned around but decided to risk it. It was 2.30pm on a Sunday, the food cabinet was almost bare, either been busy or as we decided were already packing up, even though website says they are open until 4pm. Our flat whites were barely lukewarm and awful, sorry but we won't be back anytime soon.More

Today a group of my friends and I enjoyed lunch at the Odd Spoon Cafe in Huntly. There were a variety of meals and every single one of them was delicious. Our group were really really happy with the menu, the staff, the atmosphere, value...for money and our choice of venue. My lunch was the pancakes meal and it was the best pancake, maple syrup, banana, fruit and bacon meal I have ever had. Every single dish was presented beautifully and everyone enjoyed their meal. Lots of photos were taken and we would all visit again. Well done to the new management and staff of the Odd Spoon Cafe. If I could I would give a triple x excellent rating. JudyMore

This review is for the restaurant attached to the Essex Arms. The owners have clearly taken over from The Odd Spoon but (let the record show), even though the printed menus are the same and the Odd Spoon sign is still there to be seen...outside, this is definitely not the Odd Spoon which was a wonderful restaurant with lovely little flourishes that made you glad to be there. Standards have clearly slipped badly and while the waitress was friendly and helpful that is the most that can be said about this place. I ordered an omelette. It took 30 minutes to arrive notwithstanding the fact that there were only seven other people in the restaurant, two of whom had already received their meals and two others who had made selections from the bakery counter. When the omelette finally arrived (after I made a complaint) it was on the leathery side of edible and the so-called "salad" was deeply disappointing with not as much as a vinaigrette to make it vaguely interesting. A couple sitting adjacent to me left over half their meals on the plate. My double espresso was fine but didn't make up for the overall poor production of what I had hoped would be a nice lunch!More
